  • like the divine sprite of music, Jerry Reed brought out the best in other musicians like Chet and Glen Campbell and never showboated, and the result was divine sound

  • Great playing between two master guitar player's.

  • There's ALOT of talent on that stage.

  • I'd like to kill the inventor of the "applause" sign. In all old these country shows videos, they come on at weird times but when the musicians are doing amazing things, the audience is deathly silent. It makes everybody look like fools.

  • The three people that clicked dislike must have been deaf either that or were dislexic.

  • My Favorite. I just love the way they play this and put all their selves into it. Thank you.

  • Jerry kills me with that dead pan look straight ahead while playing all those great licks. The man was a genius. God bless Jerry and Chet.

  • I absolutetly love this. Jerry so peppy & Chet so calm. They really loved their music & so do I.

  • Two of the most country guitars that there ever was! It is just pure country fun to listen to!

  • lol at the 70's clothes

  • @crazycool1128 and the hair. i think everybody was trying to hide the fact that they had ears

  • love how jerry enjoys the shit out of whatever he's playing <3

  • Study in Comparison and Contrast. Bumptious and Smooth. Each one makes the other one even better by being right next to eachother. BEARUTIFUL. sighhhh.....

  • Mark Knopfler maybe all thats left of that style

  • @dirtbagdarrell2008 there are others

  • Chet and Jerry go together like beer and pretzels! So natural and good !

  • Jerry hardly looks at his guitar. The sign of a natural player.

  • I love SRV and he's my alltime guitar hero but I would definitely count Jerry Reed along with SRV as a few of the players who can reduce a guitar to a mere toy. They make it look so easy.

  • Sweet !!!!! hope these guys are having fun together forever .

  • tight rythm

  • Chet is just great but Jerry ain't no mess a' cabbage by heck..................just two great pickers doin' what comes

    nat-u-ral...............hot damn!!!

Readin' each others' mind..........and no sweat. God bless em'.

  • Chet's guitar strap could stop a bullet!

  • It looks like they are putting no effort into this at all..........it's just so natural to them. I would be biting my tongue off trying to play what they are playing.

  • i bet u r much better than me at playingguitar; don t complain sir :-) I can t even hold it

  • i miss jerry reed.

  • They aren't from this planet...UFOs are real and they got left behind..

  • Jerry may have the poofy shirt, but what's with the red leather jacket sported by Chet? Of the three, Jerry was probably the most under-rated guitarist, but I actually prefer to hear him with Chet over Les Paul. I wonder if Les ever played with Jerry? Wow, does that acoustic sound even way better than the Gretsch electric? Maybe its just louder.

  • the acoustic is a nylon string I think which sounds louder. Like what Willie Nelson plays. Has that smoother sound that goes well on this kind of stuff.

  • man could they make great music...pure genius.

  • gotta love those two guys, epic threads in our musical weave

  • Chet was one of those rare musicians, like Joe Pass, who never made mistakes. Great video. R.I.P. J.R.

  • This is what true country is, Not that stupid shit they call county now "I sat in my truck and cried my girl left me yada, yada, yada.

  • thank u, finally someone who gets it.

  • It does the soul good to see a master like Reed show respect to another genius like Atkins. I miss ole Reed.

  • @FatManDerek

AMEN!!!! Couldn't have said it any plainer...

  • @FatManDerek

Umm Today?? That's what 90 % of all country music lyrics are about.

    Doesn't matter if it's 60's 70's 80's 90's or todays country

  • @TheLindstrand

Well Chet Atkins sure ain't like that :)

  • @FatManDerek What do you have against Taylor Swift? I mean, she's so good at singing...out of key.

  • God what I wouldn't give for just ONE minute with either one of these two masters. Just show me ONE lick guys, I am soooo not worthy.

  • Jerry Reed: Master of the Shirt!

  • I don't think anyone has ever loved the guitar more than Chet. Him and Jerry, man, what a combo. They just had so much fun together.

  • Collars were huge in 1977

  • That's quite the shirt Jerry has. At first I thought it was Chet Atkins and Evel Knievel.....

  • This a beautiful take. Two Masters of the instrument. They really draw the best out of one another.

  • High Fives to "RatPakFan" for noticing little details like the bent note and Chet's grin. Two great guitarists now in God's band. Grinning at Jerry's comments on Lenny Breau. Only Jerry would express it quite.....that......way! O;-)

  • I love that Chet makes Jerry laugh when he bends that note at about 44 seconds in.

  • Yea, and I love how Jerry completely missed the note at :49 and stopped playing and starred at Chet as if he did something different :)

  • And he laughs even more at 1:33. How great to see him laugh. He is missed.

  • Thumbpicks rule

  • thankfully, the world will probably never see shirt collars like that again..aside from that these two will live on forever thru their music

  • This is great!

  • I'd say Chet was the master, but Jerry was a star pupil...and had tunes in his head that Chet couldn't have come up with. Both were geniuses..I love listening to them together.

  • Neither one were teacher or student at the start but both became both, lol. They would steal each others licks all the time because they were such good friends. I remember hearing Jerry one time say he stole some lick from Chet and he wasn't paying him a dime, lol. It went both ways. They were both great guitars players and guys. Miss them both. :)

  • I love these guys.

tim music your comments are right on!

It should be noted that Chet's office in Nashville was for a time "The Lenny Breau School of Finger style Guitar"Both these guys attended the classes, and are on record saying that they sat with their jaws agape each class. Coping licks and concepts that they hadn't thought of.

Jerry's comment that Lenny Breau was the "Best guitar player to shit between 2 boots" kind of says it all.

  • Jerry and Chet are bendin' them strings together again now...floating by on a cloud and making that magical music for the Lord. RIP Jerry

  • However I May be wrong 2

  • I dont believe thats chet atkins.....More like Marty robbins

  • incredible video of a teacher and student...awesome and thanks

  • Teacher and student?

  • believe it or not, Chet actually taught Jerry how to play. either way, both are good guitarists

  • Yeah, I realized this afterwards. I can't agree that it's obvious, though. Jerry's technique sounds a lot different than Chet's to me.

  • that's absolutely ridiculous. Jerry Reed was a master guitarist long before Chet had the honor of performing with him

  • loooove it-high class 5

  • That nylon string guitar looks like it has a do-it-yourself cutaway!

  • that guitar is a "fiksed baldwin" best pick up and neck ever on a gut string guitar

  • Love Jerry's bebop phrasing at 1:15-1:20!

  • so fucking what ?

  • Jerry Reed was best friends with My fathers old employer, and, I have been around Jerry when I was a child....and He is not gay at all. he played in chets gold tourney for years, in which I attended many times as a child, and Jerry was all over the women non stop. He is a good man with loads of talent.

  • He's not a good man if he is "all over the women"!

  • I love to come and listen to great artists combine in what makes us feel good, i love to read the comments about people in how they enjoy it or prefer ect, but when some moron comes in and slams someone whos a human being for being fay truth or not it pisses me off, first of all if i could play like jerry i would be happy as hell, but i cant, And i will be damed to hear some bigot, slam a great artist.

  • Jerry Reeds not gay

  • wow you must have been thinkin alot about queers to come up with that, you're the one thats a little light in the loafers.

oh and Jerry's wifes name is Priscilla

  • He's not gay, but wearing that shirt...I see how you get that idea.

  • they are the best musical duo ever

  • lenny breau check it out

  • Love that little fill around 1:45! Chet picks right up where Jerry left.

  • Oops...I mean 1:27.

  • Taste, melody, technique, here it is.I like the finger picking with the thumb picks.Jerry looks like

hes anticipating Chets every move,Totally focused.Ironically Chet

always thought Jerry was the better

claw picker of the two. They both were the best.

Very cool-I love this stuff, where is it today???

  • Roseband1, there both incredible 2wice as better together then solo.

  • Nice !!! I love this song. for some more good ol' country / bluegrass music check out ray riddle on myspace. do a search for his name. You won't be disappointed if you do...

  • 1976 was a good year for shirt collars...dang!

  • If you think the collars were huge in 1976, you ought to have tried wearing those damned 4" wide ties that went with em! :-) Great song, from two of the best of all time...

  • lol, jerry looks like a naughty school boy who knows he did somethin' wrong. i cant laugh hes better than me ....

  • That is guitar pickin`

  • Why don't they make songs as good as these anymore?!?!?!?

  • WHERE'S FRED?

  • there are only a handfull that can pick guitar with hte great chet adkins and jerry reed is one of the chosen fue that can!-tom shannon sr.

  • The guitar appears to be his "chopped Baldwin" mentioned in the video for "Lightning Rod" you can find here.

  • This is from Pops goes the Country ...not When You're Hot You're Hot Hour.

  • What coordination ! They keep switching roles

  • great stuff!..what kind of guitar is Jerry playing?

  • He is playing his Chopped Baldwin

  • fridrikur - These were 'fashion' shirts in the seventies!

  • Awsome! I wish there was more! Is it just me or is Jerry Reed wearing Seinfeld's "poofy shirt"(lol)!

  • Ha ha I say he does, and Chet had some similiar shirt-issues as well wearing that shirt on Pop Goes Country playing Muskrat Rumble on another video: But I forgive them they are the best concerning fingerpicking and that is what matters :)

  • i was pretty sure it was pop goes the country as well

  • What a wonderful performance, preserved forever. This is from a "Pop Goes The Country" segment from 1976, made just after Chet beat cancer for the first time. He and Les Paul were riding high on the "Chester and Lester" album, and Jerry Reed was big box office with "Smokey and the Bandit". Too bad they went to commercial halfway through the song.

  • Nope this is from one of the few When You're Hot You're Hot shows. I've got it on tape.

  • this tune is "I'll Say She Does."

  • THANKS!

  • Great having an earlier video of the two giants than the 90's show. Thanks for postiong! Keep them coming!
