  • what a band...

  • The group's most beautiful, moving and emotional song....

  • This is probably the Who's most beautiful song. I don't know why, but I think it sounds like a Christmas song.

  • Pete-o-phile. Pete Townshend. Child Porn. Wow.

  • @TruthAxe kid porn? pete is one of the best songwriter of all time...great guitarrisr...and the only think you can say is "pete townshend child porn"

  • @TruthAxe Pete was on those websites for resurch against child porn, it was just a misunderstanding, you pinhead.

  • @TruthAxe So you came here to prove that you hate paedophiles? What is that, fighting a feeling? Why did you come all the way over here to prove you are not one? Its not like we know your name. Otherwise stop feeling so paranoid, you sick fuck.

  • You amuse, @rockfan363. Mere words have so triggered you into rage that you tremble while you write "you sick fuck."

    HA HA HA Peto-phile.

No wonder why he wrote Tommy, especially, the bits about Uncle Ernie — a rock opera FANTASY indeed.

  • @TruthAxe Correction, Keith Moon wrote the bits about Uncle Ernie. But anyways, we need more people like you. enslaving yourself to people's thoughts and just announcing out there (to random people like us who most likely do not even know you) to make yourself. Why don't you pick up your balls and do what you truly believe. If this is it, Petes personal life is different from his music. no need to hate on his music. What's going to happen, is he going to rape you through the screen?

  • @TruthAxe does one of his songs cause his spirit to rise out of the speakers and molest you?

  • Peter Townsend...that's the one that was busted surfing child pornography...right? It's amazing that you don't even hear about that anymore. I guess celebrities get to live by different rules.

  • @mrob611 He was researcing the business to help stop it, actually. He didn't downoad anything, just paid for it to see if it really was that easy. It was a mistake, he admitted.

  • @erock195 Totally lame excuse. They all have one. Suddenly he was researching child porn. The only mistake was that he got caught...he's a closet pedophile. People are willing to overlook this because he's "the who." He's a sick fuck that doesn't deserve people's attention, or adoration. ef him.

  • @mrob611 No matter what he does in his personal life doesn't change the fact that he makes great music.

  • @pookie413413 Don't you think he should be boycotted? We're talking about child porn. He probably should be sent to a deserted island.

  • @erock195 "He's a sick fuck that doesn't deserve people's attention, or adoration. ef him." Why then are you listening to his music?

  • @flopchute The man had particpated in numerous charities before the incident. He's apoligized fully, admitting he shuldn't have paid for it,

  • This is for Bob the Blade and 96 Rock Raleigh...RIP non-computerized radio

  • now thatz a person that knows what quality music is!!! @partypianoplayer!! you could have not put it better!! this entire album is 1 of but not the greatest albums ever recorded! i could never pick just 1 because the music influences you this way or that way sometimes. the very best group of all time has got to be LED ZEPPELIN, and why i say that? they made this biggest impact on popular culture at that time then any other band of that time or since so you picked in my view the 2nd best album!!!

  • Nicky Hopkins makes this song. His piano playing is lyrical and sad and so on point.

  • this song fucks me up. in a good way

  • The WHO at their best.

  • For 6 people, the song has yet to begin....

  • Who's Next and Who Are You are my favorite Who LP's. Each Album were superb song messages of what was going on in the World for their time or unintentionally for future generations. I do not know whether Townsend deliberatly wanted to create an LP of song messages and sound that would last even a Century later even forever or not. But that is how the sound and songs came out.

  • Singin' this one today walking to school , made the concrete jungle

    a little brighter..

  • One of the greatest songs by The Who!

  • pete voice is really beautiful and sad

  • I love this song, it always makes me cryyyyyy

  • This is really the most beautiful WHO song of all of them. With Pete's and Roger's contrasting Vocals and Keith and John's excellent work it is the perfect WHO song. Thanks for Posting Oh yeah and Nickey Hopkins Piano is Tops!!!

  • Who are the six Jackasses who voted thumbs down

  • @tricorn1776 they defy nature and take in the ass

  • Such power, elegance, grandeur and mystical spiritualism that was the Who at its very peak! The ultimate power ballad, all the rest can only "dream on"!

  • I love this song! Thanks for posting!

  • I'll sing my song to the free

Actually this song is made for us. is a fucking awesome song and is dedicated for you and me and barack obamma and your dog and the qataries

  • My favourite song of all time.

  • this is one of the most beautiful songs...the band at their creative peak

  • great song

  • The Who's heyday was 30-40 years ago, but I don't think anyone's replaced Pete as a songwriter ever since.

  • The best part of this song is from 0:00 to 6:15

  • Cuando se decía algo, y había un chícharo en laolla¡

  • I love the voice of Pete Townshend ... It touches me so deep.

  • I offered this song at the time ('72) for our high school graduation.

I was turned down of course.

    They were still into AM.

  • The climax of Who's Next, their best album. This song & The Doors 'The End' always play in my mind when something crucial ends in my life, be it a relationship, job, whatever. Sheer brilliance.

  • Best song on the album.....And kudos to the GREAT Nicky Hopkins.

  • One of the best rock ballads of all times! Why isn't it so famous?

  • my favorite Who song!

  • when keith and roger come in at 1:15, i just get so amped!!

plus this song is in freaks and geeks, and that scene is perfect.

  • Excelente. La canción ha terminado. La visión postmoderna de aquellos años.

    Muy bien. Javier.

  • The best ending of any Who tune, for sure!

  • Jerry Maguire

  • @richiebear1969 was this tune in that film?

  • @tulllguy Yes in the beginning of the film, when he's documenting his thoughts on what it takes to be a sports agent

  • Killer piano playing, killer drumming, killer bass, killer singing, killer everything!

  • Nicky Hopkins makes this song. Just beautiful piano playing.

  • mmm.... I love this song.

  • It's one of my "Desert Island" discs.

  • Wow,where did all the time go? Been 40 years running down the road.................

  • Damn, I was only 9 when this came out?

  • @TheDanielwardrop64 You really never heard real music.

  • @TheDanielwardrop64 13 years old and you like Bruno Mars....

    This is real music kid.

  • great song

  • BEST album of all time-----Who's Next

  • Beautiful song!

  • Who's Next > All

  • does pete sing the verses? it sounds like him...

  • Where's Nicky Hopkins in that picture above? This song would never have started without him.

  • this song inspiers me to write my own music, love and thank pete everyday for what he broght us all. love you pete

  • at 6:15, i was so sad the song was over

  • I just came back from Indio Ca (desert). I saw metallica slayer megadeth and anthraw. Now that I'm home in Santa Cruz (ocean) this song is just so nice and fitting.

  • this was a sleeper hit on Who's Next. the best song on the album. Nicky Hopkins on piano. big finish on piano and drums. i've played this lp so many times that there's nothing left of it. the first album i ever bought.

  • I sing my heart out to the infinite sea

  • This song has an "M.H.T." (Moog Hearing Test).

  • Every song on that album is perfect. All of them.

Pete is my hero, he combines feelings & emotions so well in Who. What a band..!

  • so much talent together on that picture

  • The picture is probably a bit earlier than the Who's Next album. Since the Who are yet another of our bands which get sequestered by hordes of Americans as one of their own, might as well point out for their benefit that the reason they look so pissed off in the pic is because they were living in then Prime Minister Harold Wilson's Britain (if you thought Obama's medicare was bad you've not lived!).

  • The, Who's Next" album is one of the best rock albums ever recorded, in my humble opinion... :)

  • Lovely picture of all four of them!

  • this song always reminds me of the aftermath of John Enwhistle's mad death :(

maybe I'll feel different tomorrow, and it'll remind me of tonight instead. Which has been a serene, slow n steady, smiley Sunday :) xxx

  • I LOVE THIS SONG.

  • Best Drumming i ever heard in my life. :D

  • LOOOOVE THIS SONG

  • One of the greatest songs ever! If you don't like it; plenty of busy roads you can walk onto blindfolded.

  • For me this song is much better than all Led Zeppelin's albums taken together. This song (as many others by The Who) changed my life! Thank you Pete, Roger, John and Keith! Thank God for The Who.

  • This song is better than other songs...It's essence of music!

  • 3 people think that the song should continue :)

  • Nicky Hopkins era o pianista de estúdio mais requisitado pelas bandas dos anos 70...

    Tocava muito...

    Cúem

    São Paulo SP

    Brasil

  • The synthesizer sounds like crap. This song should be remixed without it.

  • @TruthAxe Don't you disrespect the theremin, boy!

  • You amuse, @TackyRackyComixNEO.

The Who played a VCS3 synthesiser on this song and not a Theremin. No Theremin gets played on the recording Who's Next.

  • @TruthAxe Dude, I made a simple mistake. No need to be so condescending about it.

  • @TackyRackyComixNEO So when someone is kind and shares truth with you, schools and and helps you learn, you mistake that as condescension? No one wonder why those who live in the U.S.A are messed up. They're proud to shun learning.

  • @TruthAxe No, but when someone says "You amuse, [my name]," it's pretty clear they're reveling in my wrongness and less trying to "share the truth" with me and more acting like a know-it-all. If you hadn't said that I "amuse" you by making a simple mistake, I probably would have just said, "My mistake, thanks for the info." It's all about tone. (I'm not even going to get into your clear ethnocentrism.)

  • The ever amusing @TackyRackyComixNEO. Do you know of the expression "the pot calling the kettle black"? Perhaps had you not fired the first shot of condescension with the word "boy" you would not have received such in kind.

Now, you come across as whiny little bitch, a complaining little cunt.

Face it. You know fuck all about The Who. You know even less about music and what instruments make what sounds.

Keep amusing, though! Free entertainment like you're providing is great for laughs.

  • @TruthAxe The "boy" was meant as a joke. And at least I'm not resorting to baseless insults. Really? A female dog? Come on.

  • The always amusing @TackyRackyComixNEO. You're grasping at straws. You were wrong about the Theremin, embarrassingly so. Now, you're trying to cover it up by waging an ad hominem through innuendo attack against me.

Quit while you're oh-so-far behind. Oh how you amuse.

  • @TruthAxe ...Innuendo? What innuendo?

Oh, just forget this. This is accomplishing nothing. If nothing else, it'll at least all be a fun read for some bored YouTuber. Good night, or good whatever-time-of-day-it-is-wherever-you-live-and-whenever-it-is-you-read-this. Hope you had as much fun with this as I did (in other words, I hope you have a headache and a half).

  • @TruthAxe You bloody, fucking, buggering piece of shit! I don't care where you hail from--UK, Ireland, France, even the US--you can't make broad generalizations like that! Those of us with half a brain, who give a shit about learning, find those sorts of blanket statements offensive. Just because our country has stupid people, it doesn't mean that the entire country is stupid. There are stupid people all over the world after all.

  • You amuse, @AngelofMusic2288. Mere words have triggered you into rage and in turn, your rage has exposed your deep-seated desire for homoerotic scat sex.

    Keep amusing!

  • @TruthAxe I'm sorry... I should have recognized you for the troll you are. But first... how does insulting you reveal anything about my psyche? Second off, mere words? You called an entire country 'proud to shun learning'. If we're gonna do the whole insults revealing things about your psyche thing... hmm. By the by... /that's/ an innuendo. Thirdly, buggery, in general, is anal intercourse and is not restricted to meaning 'gay' sex... just so you know.

  • You amuse, @AngelofMusic2288, again! Any dude preferring to ram his tool inside an anus over a vagina is exhibiting freaky homosexual-like tendencies.

Perhaps this is why you worship Petophile Townsend, the guy who's into kiddie porn and men.

  • @TruthAxe 'freaky homosexual-like tendencies'? so you're a gay-bashing troll. Uh-huh. Also interesting how you bring up the pedophile charges that were dropped. Perhaps you'd like to discuss Pete's current partner? I believe her name is Rachel. Or perhaps you'd rather discuss your deep-seated desire to insult random people on the internet to get your rocks off. Or since we were talking about other hack Psychology theories earlier, perhaps we should discuss your homosexual tendencies....

  • The ever amusing @AngelofMusic2288. Mere words continue to trigger you into rage, which exposes your deep-seated desire for homoerotic desires.

And speaking of insults, you introduced yourself to me by writing this, "@TruthAxe You bloody, fucking, buggering piece of shit!".

Oh and Rachel is a beard.

  • @TruthAxe rage? as in a violent fit of anger? I see the 'rage' in my first comment certainly... but what about any of my later comments scream 'rage'? I've come to see this more as a battle of wits. And you shall lose.

Also... why do you keep trying to use homo-erotic desires as if you are trying to insult me? I see nothing wrong with homo-erotic desires--I read and write slash fiction. I also know from personal experience that a person can be attracted to men /and/ women.

  • The most amusing @AngelofMusic2288. A battle of wits would require you to have some.

    Please, keep amusing!

  • @TruthAxe ah, you poor, predictable troll... you're not even a creative troll at that. 'A battle of wits would require you to have some.' Such a cliché riposte. You can't think of anything better?

  • @TruthAxe by the by, I'm going to bed now... you may or may not hear from me again. If you don't, it's not because I'm admitting defeat... rather I'm admitting that I have a life.

    G'ni-ight.

  • @TruthAxe Pipe down Shakespeare.

It doesn't make you look smart by arguing on Youtube.

Go do something creative instead and stop being such a douchebag.

P.S. That amusing thing you do in every comment is just dumb when you use it to much.

  • You amuse @TheWhoForEverAndEver. Why do you elect to argue on YT? Are you not trying t look smart? And what damaged your mind that you believe, falsely, of course, that you can order others about through YT? How you amuse.

  • @TruthAxe Bla bla bla bla, again with that amusing shit.Sorry but I won't get into argue with a dumb troll.

And i know that your next comment will be , oh you amuse! so i wont respond to it, becouse I mostly don't argue with retards or dumb trolls, whatever of those two you are.

Take a bath silly nerd and go outside and meet people.

    Wanker.

  • The ever amusing @TheWhoForEverAndEver. Look at you arguing like a dummy. Mere words have enraged you and have triggered you to confess over your poor hygiene and lack of friends.

    Keep amusing!

  • i'm gonna sink to your level

Oh it's ever amusing @TruthAxe how you amuse ha ha, please do it some more.

I know what you are but what am i?

Bloody stand-up comedian( the dumbest type of comedians).

    Keep amusing!

  • @TruthAxe weird how the only insult you can come up with is "amusing"

  • @AngelofMusic2288

As Pete said "... just by being honest, not necessarily by saying, 'I am gay, I am gay, I am gay.' ...I understand how gay people feel, and I identify. And I know how it feels to be a woman. I know how it feels to be a woman because I am a woman. And I won't be classified as just a man...That ... was a coming-out. That it was a real acknowledgment of the fact that I'd been surrounded by people that I really adored -- and was actually sexually attracted to...men. "

  • @TruthAxe Here's a slightly less edited version of that quote. "[...] & I know how it feels 2 b a woman. I know how it feels 2 b a woman because I am a woman. & I won't b classified as just a man. [...] I would write back & say, 'No, I haven't come out.' & then I realized maybe that was just pride. That in a way it was a coming-out. That it was a real acknowledgment of the fact that I'd been surrounded by people that I really adored--& was actually sexually attracted 2--who were men."

  • @TruthAxe

Pete also plays the ARP 2500 modular synthesizer on this album and "Quadrophenia."

  • THE CLASSIC ROCK ERA OF THE 60S AND 70S HAS COME AND GONE BUT THE MUSIC WILL FOREVER BE REMEMBERED!!! ROGER DALTREY AND PETE TOWNSEND SHOWED WHILE THEY'RE CLASSIC ROCKERS IF FOR NO OTHER REASON THAN BEING IN THEIR 60S AGE-WISE, THEY STILL PUT ON A GREAT SHOW WITH THEIR ENDLESS, TIMELESS SONGS LIKE IN THE 2010 SUPER BOWL! ROCK MUSIC STARTED DECLINING IN THE 80S AND DECADES FROM NOW WHO'LL REMEMBER JACKSON, PRINCE, MADONNA, RITCHIE, ETC. LONG LIVE CLASSIC ROCK AND I'LL BE HAPPY TO LISTEN TO IT!

  • Wish it wasn't over.

  • This is my favorite Who song, about getting out and playing your music but still missing someone. Making it and still being sad losing love which is more important.

  • You know, I don't criticize people for the music they listen to, because, in my opinion, you like what you listened to when you were a little kid (usually). It's just that... I just don't understand how you possibly couldn't, at the very least, like this music, if not love it. It's just so damn good. I don't get how people could possibly hate it. It blows my mind.

  • @LukeODMO It really is a case of "to each his own" here. I get where you're coming from, as I cannot imagine myself seeing this music as anything other than distilled-awesome-just-add-your-listening-ears, but it's just not everyone's taste.

To give you another example, my mother hates The Beatles (especially "Hey Jude"). It's a shame, but what can ya do?

  • When I was cleaning my back room saturday this piano in the beginning had me stopping in place and getting a transcendent feeling as I looked over my life.

  • In my opinion the best ending of a rock and roll song.

  • Gods. That's the only word for them. Long live classic rock.... and The Who...real music. ♥ So beautiful.

  • The general public remembers perhaps 3 songs from "Who's Next", but to me its great from start to finish!!!

  • @MrCrosstiewalker best album ever!!!!

  • @MrCrosstiewalker Seriously. Who's Next's track listing reads like a "best of" album for even the greatest of rock bands. For The Who, it was just another studio album....

  • @bwc3821 "Who's Next" was not a greatest hits album. None of the tracks were "hits" at the time of the album's release in 1971, and "Who's Next" was considered revolutionary at the time of release. Actually, Townshend wanted to release a 2-record concept album called "Lifehouse" (from which these songs are taken), but The Who's record label wouldn't permit it.....Besides, what's wrong with studio albums? They precede live albums which contain performances of studio material.

  • @MrCrosstiewalker uhmmmm........I know.

  • The best part of this great song is the end, thanks to Moon's great drumming and Entwistle's amazing bass playing. Like they say, Keith Moon was the soul of The Who

  • @classiccarz townshend was the soul! surely? moon was a good drummer but he wasnt the brains,composer... soul -driving force like townshend

  • @classiccarz

Oh yeah, this is rock drumming at its finest. Moon was one of the best.

  • @TrippHeffner383092 ezmp3grab doht cohm is a BS site, it redirects you and then all it can do is convert videos. useless

  • A total Classic

  • My God, how great they truly were. The memories of my youth , The Who were such a huge part.

  • life sucks

  • Why hello Ruffles272, no need to worry, I figured out how to separate personal comments from public comments..,,you can sleep soundly tonight. Thank you for your feedback!

  • its neither...wait .maybe its both.

  • Love this song...that's all I can say. Love it. Also would've hoped for Lifehouse, but every album the planned Lifehouse songs went onto are still fan-flippin'-tastic.

  • Another brillant track from The Who. Also notable in being one of the very first rock songs to feature a synthesizer prominently.

They just don't make music like this any more. :-( Come to think of it, they don't make mucic anymore...

  • Whenever I feel sad, I listen to this song. They don't quite make music like this anymore. We miss you still Johnny and Mooney!

  • KEITH MOON, the chorus DOES NOT start at 0:41!!!!!!!!!! WAIT FOR THE SECOND VERSE, DAMN IT! <3

  • @Sappyspartan nice catch

  • Wow, this brings back memories...Peter Jameslee Cunningham, you were quite the Who fan when we were dating (1983 - 1986). I remember listening to these songs while we cruising around town..it was fun..hope you are doing well. Last I heard, you were in Pheonix??

  • dude what the fuck are you talking about? I don't think you're really grasping the concept of comments

  • Love this song.I find the final 45 to 60 seconds of this song the best Who ever recorded.

  • Really GOOD songwriters are a "rare breed"!! You have to live life in order write about it.

  • This is such a beautiful song and it is so fitting that the great Nicky Hopkins played piano on this.

  • Too many good memories, and some not so much...........

  • Searchin' for a note, pure and easy

Playing so free, like a breath rippling by

This song just keeps getting better with age.

  • @jhooperdean

Your age or the song's age? ;)

  • @jhooperdean You're right with that.

  • @jhooperdean I first heard this song back in 71 on a panasonic radio in a 72 divco milk truck while doing inventory of the contents. I was in the eigth grade and hooked on GREAT MUSIC SINCE......

  • @jhooperdean twat
