The purity of this song is amazing! "So deep, so wide" is, in my opinion, the best way to describe the emotion I have listening to it. What an amazing, and dare I say 'God-given' talent this man has.
We were never close enough. Never enough friends. You were never within reach of my understanding, because I always tried to rationalize everything, but I did not let my heart to feel enough. You just knew you wanted me, but no one taught you but your instinct to learn to love. In fact, nobody taught you or supported you in your life, and yet, you could project ourselves for a life better of what you lived. So I remember you with respect and admiration, besides my love for you, father.
ugh religous comments -_- heres a new one. PRAISE SATIN. there now you know how it feels to be annoyed by religious comments that piss you off and have nothing to do with the music.
with that said, who thinks that tori amos singing a duet with peter gabriel would have been incredible?
@sTapleEVA "who thinks that tori amos singing a duet with peter gabriel would have been incredible?"
Only an idiot, pessimist, hate-filled, vengeful, science-worshipping, big-government worshipping, atheist degenerate would think that. It must be your soulless, fucked up philosophy that would put such a stupid idea in your head. Good news for the rest of us is, once YOU die, you'll just cease to exist.
There, now you know how it feels to be annoyed by militant haters who piss you off.
@1776Matthew actually ANYONE of any religion could like that pairing :) mabee you should speak for yourself. its not like your so important that you get to make other peoples opinion. who says im all those things? only a hypocrate bigot! hahaha hope you dont believe in god because now you have to apologize and ask forgiveness hahahahahaha sinner! in laughter that i worked you up! it could have just made my day! love how you go against your own words by BEING vengeful!
@sTapleEVA Just pointing out your hypocrisy, twit. I have my own understanding with God. He never told me to suffer fools.
For the record, I have just as much of a problem with aggressively proselytizing Christians, Muslims, Jehova's Witnesses, etc. as I do with you aggressively proselytizing atheists.
@1776Matthew well then, ignore and it wont be a problem! what was your goal here? to get me to take down my opinion? i came here to post it. you have the hypocrisy. re read your reply. extreamly vengful, aggressive, ignorant, snobby, and pathetic. hate to break it to you, but the little conflicts in your head against groups of people you dont like isnt going to change them. they arnt important. so i guess you just cofinsate by complaining on youtube commening pages and wasting your time. lol
@1776Matthew lol all i even have to do is copy and paste my last reply XD but i know you wont read it, your a bigot ;) and i think those religious people will be fine, they dont need you to be there hero, so that excuse dosent really work when it comes to defending your bigotry. and im afraid your not in a position to give commands over a youtube commenting page. once again, your not that important. but if it helps you feel like you have control, then go for it
Peter does what he does best in this song. How fulfilling to be able to put the raw emotion he does into his work. This shows a very good side to see of him. I'm definitely a deeper fan.
A good example for all and for some a dream that never came true. To the father less( deceased or deadbeats) there is a Main Father, who loves beyond and heals a broken heart, who is also wrathful, like an earthly father, yet forgives to. Mainly , This Father inHeaven died for us,rose again & awaits to see us a bridge over troubled waters, looking to recieve us unto himself. Our Creator. A Father who loves & never dies.
I didn t know the song before discovering it at a Peter's concert in Paris. I find it so sensitive and magnificent...I m a great Peter's fan and, as a musician i dream of , one day, playing with him. Dreams are made to be realised. This song and many others taught me that.
@losghost Amen, brother. I lost my dad when I was 17, and as is the case for many fathers and sons we weren't as close as we could have been (though the loss was still devastating)... but many years later, a few hours after my first child - a son - was born (when I was nearly 40, as was he when I - his only son - was born), I felt a sudden kinship with him, a new connection unlike any I'd ever felt before.
My sons will never meet him, but they sense him in me.
@MrFrench439 I lost mine at 15. I'm already 2 yrs older than my father was when he died, 43.
I have two young boys 5 and 3 and can see his mannerisms in the 3 yr old. We were close enough although parents were divorced.
I find it amazing that PG is able to encapsulate all of these complicated emotions into a song and redeliver them. He truly is a music "artist" not too many that can truly wear that crown.
Going thru a difficult time with my own son at the present moment. This song is a reminder of what a special relationship we have. Life is wonderful. Live every moment with the ones you love as if its your last.
00grantham- Wow my man! Your words "so easy, yet so hard for some" put me over the top after a long, tenuous struggle to get close to my dad (alas, to no avail). It seems Peter and his dad were not originally very close either.
I just struggle to understand how a father can have no desire to be close to his children.
Directed by someone as close as can be. I feel really overwelmed by the honesty of this little film. Imagine iff it was directed by someone that had no bonds with Peter and family. Then this little film would have been painful to watch, because of the defence that with the one filming now is completely gone.
I would really love to wtach it again, But i;m gonna wait till it can overwelm me again.
Ok I'm a sap... Watching this just now with my 18 month old son on my lap... he immediatley snuggles against me and I lost it. I need more sleep ;) The power of music... and a cute kid :)
Yeah! Real heart-felt music, in this world of over-sexed and fake emotions just to sell a record or video. This is the stuff that makes us truely human. Bravo, Mr. Gabriel!
This is real music! The older I get, the less time I have for screaming and carrying on. This is the stuff I want the whole world to know, and emulate. Good stuff, Mr. Gabriel. In listening to this song, I have hope we all may fix this world, after all...Bless you all, and Rock On!
The purity of this song is amazing! "So deep, so wide" is, in my opinion, the best way to describe the emotion I have listening to it. What an amazing, and dare I say 'God-given' talent this man has.

@sTapleEVA My comment was a response to your initial, unprovoked antagonism toward any religious people who might be reading this thread.
"ugh religous comments -_- heres a new one. PRAISE SATIN. there now you know how it feels to be annoyed by religious comments that piss you off"
YOU are trying to antagonize and create conflict. "PRAISE SATIN". Do you "PRAISE SILK" too? How about lace?
Keep your militant atheism to yourself. It is "offensive" and "hateful".

@1776Matthew Science worshipping atheist degenerate? Sounds like someone has some issues. Is that a christian thing to say?
Besides, I'm willing to bet that if you had a loved one in the hospital you wouldn't be calling the doctor a science worshiping degenerate.
Besides, is that what jesus would do? Curse people out for having alternate views to his?
