The only thing that would make this video better would be if you had words pop up explaining what you're doing or what you're driving for those of us interested in learning about farming.
Lyrics correction: It's not the money that keeps me ridin' this auto-steered John Deere tractor haha not to hate but you could save yourself alot of tech fees and just drive straight, old-school you know?
How small of a tractor do you think you could get by with on one of these planters. I see Deere recommends 250+ hp. Seems a bit overkill to me. I was wondering if a 7920 would pull one with 500 gallons of fert. or so.
@redneckfarmer I really think that would be pushing it. It is a must to have the high volume hydraulic pump especially if your fert. pump is hypro or other hydraulic pump. With the CCS fan, Dual Vacuums, VRD, etc. hydraulic oil can get pretty warm if you don't have sufficient flow. I would say it may struggle if you have any hills.
@southwestfamilyfarms That surprises me. There's guys pulling 16 row 1770 CCS with fert. here with 8920 magnums and 8110 JDs. Not that they are runaways, but I figured carrying some of the weight would help. We need to eventually get to two 40' planters and don't really have a need for another 250-300 hp tractor hanging around the rest of the year at this point.
No offence to anyone with this comment: I love the gps systems and all, but I hate how it takes the part of the driver out of the equation. I run old model John Deere tractors, and have done well without GPS. I plan on getting a new tractor when I have the money, but don't know what all I'll get on it. I still want the ability to run a lot of it. The gps is good though for planting.
Well, look at that - Rocky Ormiston could take a nap while the tractor does all the work... I remember when the day was filled with nothing but hot air, dust, and an occasional shout-out on the CB. Now THAT was real farming! (I wonder if my iPhone has an app for that too?)
Last year I had one 12row and We used both mine and Southwest family farm's 1720CCS 16row to plant our crops. This year we are going to try and do it with just two 1720CCS 16 row.
Ok. I thought since he was in your video maybe you were part of the same farm. You only run one 40' over all those acres? What keeps you from going to a 24 row planter?
The reason we haven't gone to a bigger planter is so we match up with our strip till. We strip 16rows and plant 16 rows. But, we harvest 12 row...for now. Keep hoping Deere comes out with a 16 row head. The pull type planters tend to drift off the strips especially in hilly ground. So we've stayed with the 3pt . I think we could go with a bigger planter and put a receiver on it to help pull straight.
No it wasn't me personally. The guy you saw is a neighbor. Funny thing is, he was running precision plates and we were running the ProMax 40s. I planted with the promax 40s and he planted with the precision plates. We planted side by side...must not have seen a difference. lol
Nice looking operation you have there. I just curious on the setup you have there with the laptop @ 2.00mins. Where are you mounting the support bracket off, are you powering the laptop via the cigarette lighter. Did you make/purchase the docking station and support bracket? If purchased where from. How does the screen react to uneven terrain. Thanks for the help. Camel
Thanks, sorry I haven't gotten back to you. The support bracket comes off the Greenstar corner bracket. We used 1" square tubing and all-thread to raise the computer up. We then used a Greenstar Display bracket and widened it by welding a thin metal sheet to help support the computer base. It works great in all terrain. RAM mount makes mounting brackets to mount computers in pick ups and on window. You may want to check them out
Good job on the video man. Love Itec pro don't you. Couple questions though. Why the 1895 and only two tanks, are you guys pulling anhydrous? And what was that machine that you were pulling between the rows with the rolling coulter things.
Thanks for the feedback. We do have a 3 container cart...thought that was hooked up to the 1895. But we do also NH3 with it. The implement was a dammer diker. It has a ripper shank and the paddles create a pocket to hold water. We use them all them time in sand hills where water run off is a problem.
What is the machine at 8:00? A cultivator?
