When it comes to actual racing in track that has corners twists and turns american muscle cars handle like shit. Too heavy and the center of gravity is too high, the weight is also not evenly balanced between front and rear wheels which creates alot of body roll.

In the 1980s, a Chevrolet 305cid engine only produced around 180hp. Displacement gives the engine more potential but unless it is engineered properly (ie efficient breathing and combustion) then it won't matter.
