  • should you kill the messages or phone app??

  • @elmeromero974 no... killing them would not do much for you as they would likely re-start right away.

  • This is awesome! I'm gonna try it now!

  • IS advanced task killer bad for android phone please reply!

  • @janeck123 This is a debate that has gone on forever. However, if you find your battery life lasting long enough then don't add a "task killer" of any kind. If you wish you had longer battery life, try ATK and see if it helps. You can always uninstall the software or just not use it on your phone if you feel it is causing problems. Many newer phones are supposed to deal with battery drain better than the older ones, but for some (me and many others!) ATK has really helped my battery life.

  • why do you chose it to be crazy? please reply!

  • @janeck123 I suggest the "Crazy" setting as it is aggressive enough to shut down Apps more often, but not so aggressive that it interferes with most people's operations on their phone.

  • When I kill the apps, they keep returning. (facebook, gmail etc) They start up automatically every time and that sucks battery life even more:/ what can I do so that they not run automatically.

  • @berfu91 The Apps you are speaking of are trying to stay alive because they are set to keep track on any new activity (on FB or Gmail). You can make them stop that by adjusting their settings to not "auto-update" or something like that. If you do that, then the apps stop checking your accounts and you would need to manually launch them when you want to check email or FB activity. So yes you can turn them off so that ATK makes them stop working, but you may not want to. Other apps just won't die!

  • @27wiles go to settings, battery and data manager, then data delivery.

  • @RHH973 & @27wiles Sorry I missed this request... if RHH973's suggestion did not get you there you can also look to this path to get to "Background Data" settings: Menu > Settings > Accounts & Sync > Background data

Thanks to RHH973 for your contribution!

  • I have the droid 2 and when i go to the android market it says i have to enable my backround data but i cant figure out how to do that. any suggestions ??

  • hey i was wondering if you or anyone could help me with my problem i have an android software phone and it wont connect to my pc or let me download anything from the market place what ive done was i had copied and paced them on to my computer in a seperat folder to back up my phone when it was done after ive done that and formatted my phone everything was completly gone my contacts my pictures music apps email all of it now when i go to plug it in to my computer it wont detect anything =(

  • @iglowfilmz What scares me in your comment is you say you have "formatted my phone"... not sure what you may have done there. Were you trying to "root" your phone?

  • @UseMyDroid i wasnt even attempting to root it like how i saw vid on going to recovery mode to force update 2.2 you going into recovery mode and there it is in the option what i was able to do was have my computer detect my phone when i did that

  • whats the difference where its set to crazy, safe etc..? please reply :)

  • @afr3sh25xx2 Quoted from the ATK Help file 3 different options: Safe: Only kill apps that aren't running but using memory, Aggressive: Kill apps running in background or not running, Crazy: Kill All apps except for those you are currently using. You can get to their help file when the app ATK is on screen, choose Menu>Help

  • youn are sooooooooo boring

  • Is it worth getting ATK for 2.3? I am a new droid user so I am a bit confused, Some of my friends say get it and some say no don't bother.

    I'm confused here.

  • @Beerlover2007 I'm not using a phone that is running system 2.3 - so this is just my projected opinion. If you are happy with the battery life of your phone as is (or with some basic adjustments to App usage) then don't use ATK or other task killers, If you would like to try ATK to see if it helps your battery life, then go for it. My contention is that it does not actually damage your phone (as some have said). You can always turn it off/ uninstall it, or just have it kill certain apps.

  • so the icon is supose to stay at the top isnt that draining battery too

  • @msdelle22 The icon being visible on the top (notification bar) is showing you that the program ATK is still active and ready to "Kill Apps" when the screen goes dim (using my suggested settings).

Doubtful that it is draining much battery juice doing that. You could try turning OFF the "Show Notification" setting if you like, as the app would still be running, but you may not know that without the icon showing up top. I don't think it will change much in battery drain, but hey, give it a try.

  • @UseMyDroid got thanks alot and my battery did do alittle better...mad apps be running that i didnt even go in smh im glad i got this app

  • What about for "Force Close" messages?

  • @collinsboy21 Not sure what you mean by Force Close msg... if an app is always needing to be Forced Closed, then I'd stop ATK from killing it (if that is what is causing the issue), perhaps you can get a different app to do the same thing that closes properly.

  • I have the HTC Aria by At&t with Android 2.2 does this work as well.

  • @collinsboy21 Yes, ATK works on all Android phones... you can always adjust how aggressive you want it to be, or just turn it off if you find it is not helping enough.

  • Hey. I need real help... is there ANY way to whitelist apps or disable the automatic app killer that is on gingerbread? Cause if im listening to an online radio using the opera mobile, and run it in backround, it keeps shutting itself down :S

Really hope you could help! Im running android 2.3.4

  • Thanks bro

  • Life saver Thanks mate!

  • @HannibalXKarma Glad it helped you... enjoy your better battery life!

  • I also use "Startup Cleaner Pro" to turn off applications and services I do not use often and I do not want to auto start when tablet is turned on.

  • @guercheLE Thanks for the tip re. Startup Cleaner Pro... anyone else that has an App that helps save battery life, feel free to comment here!

  • Thank you

  • I have an HTC Inspire 4g and I started using this app and set it to the exact same settings you have. On standby at work for about 4 hours, I still had 98% battery life and for my phone that is a godsend. This app has really changed the way I use my phone for the better. I also had to sacrifice some widgets on the home screen because my phone is a battery guzzler. One question I have though is my phone fast boots itself every once in a while and I don't know why? Any advice?

  • PEOPLE, dont use task killers, they are bad for your phone. watch?v=_qhjnVsJhog

This will explain to you why if you dont already know.

  • i saved 1% battery life... i have HTC incredible S,

  • why my voice search still running? i have kill it. :(

  • @Donafick Voice Search will not die via Advanced Task Killer.... it continues to live and there is nothing you can do about it... its a Google "thing".

  • oh,, thank u thank u thank u.

    :)

  • How do you make a shortcut so u can just Press on the app and it kills all without opening it all and then pressing "kill all" please help.

  • @hrag500 Not sure how. I looked at the settings for ATK re. your question and see a place to set "Actions" like what a Click does vs. a Long-Press but I don't think that would do what you want. If the App is in the notification bar, it is a simple select from there and hit the Kill All button. Also if you set it like I suggest, then the Kill happens whenever the screen goes dim automatically.

  • @hrag500 Add it to your screen as a widget instead of an app. 1 touch then kills all.

  • @hrag500 Add to your home screen as a widget instead of an app to get the 1 touch kill.

  • I've been using ATK for a while now and noticed that my phone (optimus one) becomes kinda sluggish after a while. Thought it was the lack of free ram (230 mb free) but after uninstalling it started running just fine with only 170 free mb ram. if you dont like apps in the background its ok to use, but on slightly slower phones it might be better without it.

  • i dont understand on what it actually does? does it mean if i kill facebook will it erase the stuff on there when i try to start it back up?

  • THIS APP IS NOT JUST A APP..IT'S the most IMPORTANT app to have-not only your battery life but also the complete running proces of your device will speed up with 80% after stopping the useless processes tunning in the background default by start up..

Wonder if there is a program that let me block any program from starting up with Android..

  • Thanks!

  • Do you know if anyone will ever make an app to increase text size like the iphone 4 & BB do? People been complaining for 2 years now and no-one is listening.Us over 40 folks that don't have eagle eyes have a hard time seeing the dang tiny text on droids. I'm willing to pay $30 for such an app just so I don't have to put reading glasses on every time I use the phone. It really sucks no-one in droid world will listen to the eye impaired who been complaining for 2 freaking years now..

  • @skjoyner I hear you - and have mentioned it to some App Developers... no movement. Perhaps it is harder to implement across all types of apps etc. on Android than Apple. Apple's iphone has a little "long-press magnifier thingy" that allows you to insert the cursor and magnifies the screen in a little circle... even that would be helpful to people not wanting to put on the "cheaters".

  • @skjoyner yes but its A simulator, it just wont auto correct your text witch i find very helpfull

  • @skjoyner Hey, so you want to increase text size I see, well there are 2 apps that have that option and many other features also , they are alled ChompSMS and HandcentSMS (Which i recommend),you can make your text in the conversation list and thread any size you like. If any questions please reply or inbox me.

  • Thanx again for this tutorial, I just upgraded and really needed it... you should make more this is my fave channel for android

  • I found that on my Incredible phone the Skype app doesn't stay off after I use the Advanced Killer. I have held my finger down on it for a while but nothing happens. Any suggestions?

  • @damitjim65 If you are in ATK and long-press on an app, chose to kill it now & it won't die, then I don't know what to tell you except you could try looking around that Apps settings to see if there is some way to let it turn off or sync less often.

  • why didnt the ATK developers have in mind that they could have not had the ATK when selecting all which you want to kill, lol why would you want to kill the ATK ? thats dumb :D

  • So if I used Facebook and Aim while using this app.. would they affect my battery ?

  • @timmykang96 All apps will eventually drain your battery, so in short yes. I would mess with the settings on how often you want ATK to kill those apps, but they may just turn on when they need to anyway (depends how often they sync). So perhaps killing them on screen off (my video's suggestion) would work out fine.

  • Does anyone know if this app will work on the HTC Aria/Liberty ? I got my Aria in the mail yesterday and I was in the Android Market and I came across this app. Some people said that it had messed up their phone, and I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't do that to mine.

  • By killing apps will this also stop using data if you have the 150MB plan with verizon

  • @andyvega31105 I have an unlimited data plan, so I don't watch my data usage... that being said, I think the data usage amount is increased only when you are downloading data (like watching video), so just killing an app may not have much impact on your data usage plan. HTH (hope that helps)

  • On all task killers (correct me if I am wrong) there is no indication of how much resources the app is using and since I do not have as much apps as you might have I may not have any poorly coded apps on my phone causing my phone to have a much more battery life that you have. Android manages its resources pretty well that you should not have a need for an Auto Killer. However........ All the things I wrote mainly applies to android 2.2 If you have 2.1 or lower you have have to use a Task Killer

  • Just came across this video. The reasons your battery is draining out faster than normal are your battery is not properly calibrated or some of your apps are poorly coded which causes a battery drain. with the 2.2 update you do not need to install atk because google stopped letting an app to control other apps. That is why apps show up again and again. Some apps may show up on your TK, but they may not be even using any resources.

  • @iamthebesfromyou Thanks for your comment, but I'm a bit perplexed. When I updated to Froyo 2.2 my battery life went "to the dark side"... it was better before the update. So I started getting even more aggressive with my Task Killer, and it helped my battery life a lot. Saying that with 2.2 I don't need ATK is the opposite of my real life experience, I feel like I need it even more than before to keep my battery going.

  • Thanks, only 2nd day with Droid. Still trying to figure it out.

  • @wpmsperryco Hope my training vids help you... you may want to look at the battery saving playlist I have made. Battery drain is one of the largest issues with android phones but there are things you can do about it as I mention in the videos on my channel or on my website. Welcome to the Droid Family!

  • Have you found that this ATK app saves you battery life like I did?
