@Mokujinju I interpreted him as a reference to Sun Wukong. They have a few things in common. You can take it however you want, but I tend to think he's more or less immortal. The director said you can consider him a sort of yokai are forest spirit. I think of it as nature itself deciding that the assassination is just and aiding the conspirators.

I found it crazy surprising that Takashi Miike directed this film. Sad to say, everything that dude made before this was crappy and over-the-top to the point of bs (except maybe "Graveyard of Honor", that was alright). But this movie really showed what he was capable of as a serious director with a decent budget and careful shooting. Good story, and thunderous action sequences! One of my fav samurai movies next to 'Seven Samurai', 'Lone Wolf and Cub' and 'Yojimbo'.

I dunno if it's the fact that I watched this film before the trailer, but is it me or all trailers get short of the awesome epic badassnes of this movie. Most trailers are better than the movie. This movie is way better, scene by scene, frame by frame than any of its trailers.

Best action movie of the last few years, we're speaking of GREAT level of actin, coreography of the battle scene, building up tension. Not a single frame wasted, and you end up really really really REALLY rooting for the 13 "assassins". Don't dare to miss this one. Unfortunately the international release has few cuts (particularly one scene I've found truly funny in the Japanese release)

This movie really achieved greatness. I watched it at 2 AM and it still had me hooked to know what would happen in the storyline and the fight scenes were ALL exciting. The characters were interesting and their cause was relatable. I love this!!!!!
