there's some project for locating what made the ST-01 sounds. It might help. the only real way to "recreate" the classic amiga sound is to well, compose on an amiga!
@JeezoozeChrysler: Most demoscene musicians weren't rich enough to afford fancy gear (or at least not a lot of it), but some stuff we consider fancy today wasn't expensive then, because people were still stupid and selling Jupiters to buy M1s.
Lots of super cheap (today) ROMplers. Roland U-220s/U-110s/D-110s, Yamaha TG-33s, Proteus 1s, Oberheim Matrix 1000s, Alpha Junos, etc. And get cheap old effects units like Quadraverbs and Boss guitar pedals.
@woskhali Hey thx man ! Someday I hope I can buy a ROMpler, that warm sound is simply unobtainable by VSTs . Meanwhile I "explored" some MOD files and listened to the samples that they were using. Tiny and short samples with ultra low Bit rate, and the "strings" vibe i was referring to is given by looping the end of the sample to have "sustain" . Anyway I found an ezy way to have those old sweet sounds, that would be Sampler + Synth Samples cds (akai and that stuff). Old crunchy dirty soundz :D
@JeezoozeChrysler Akais have the biggest sample libraries, but Roland S-770s can read Akai disks, and they have a better interface with a monitor and mouse plugged in. Plus a nicer filter. Hell, get both, hardware samplers are basically free these days, as everyone's moving to software. In fifteen or twenty years, I bet people will be saying they were dumb for selling S1100s, like they did with analogs :P.
Protracker was definitely the best Amiga Tracker for me.
3.1x was superb in all of it's incarnations. Not much I can do with Renoise now that I couldn't do with that (aside from the big adult stuff like recording etc.)
cool, im lookin for some decent old tracker music to play in a dj set soon, think i'll download the mod file. might have to remove that 'kick some ass' sample though hehe
protracker still rocks.. You can do superprecise slides/bends/vibration. Cyberride was one of my favs, but there are so many quality good tunes (mostly demo-scene) many people haven't heard of. Technically superior to what you hear on MTV sometimes..
not 4-d but impressive unit, is this work group four stuff, almost pure presentment, reporting profiles are nice here, solid runtime performance can it do porting.
This track was composed by Jester. It was "made famous" by a re-version of it made by the psytrance duo Logic Bomb (aptly named "Extension" in their album "headware" ).
I notice the version recorded here skips some parts at parts, you should be able to find the original on the internet.
Here's the demo from Pygmy Projects: pouet[dot]net/prod[dot]php?which=3038
And for those who want it to listen with better quality, here's the MOD file: amp[dot]dascene[dot]net/downmod[dot]php?index=34645

I often use Amigas to compose MIDI tunes to port to a DAW and embellish.
Paste into bar THE JIMMY RIDDLE ORCHESTRA - MIDI SYMPHETTE for a decent little micro symphony.

Actually, the demo was by Pygmy Projects, only the guy who did the tune (Jester aka Volker Tripp) was a member of Sanity at the time.
