I'm not sure who the violinist is but I think she deserves credit in the description. I mean its only one more persons name to write why did you write etc!
2 all who think this is about stewart - it's not actually, it's about everyone. unfortunately the camera operator has "sweet eyes" - know this term? looks 4 action, like it's a football match - then always ends up on the drummer (cos of his inherently big movements). bela's solo @ 3'21" (the banjo player btw, u may have noticed there's a banjo player) - by the time the camera actually finds him (@ 4'00") his solo's over - stewart's cool, but too many closeups of him misrepresents the ting
@Tamaslammer..... Steward copeland was a huge influence to me as a musician growing up with sting.... however, he blew this one!! Off time, out of taste and feel! and i can back up my comment through my playing! watch my drum solo on my page if you think im full of BS. I LOVE STEWARD COPELAND! but NOT here with bela!
I love when people make a defensive comment that is completely irrelevant to them in the first place but make it about themselves anyway. Nobody was talking about you or your skills, Doug. Thank you.
@Tamaslammer Well....ur quite the funny guy!!!! ppl tend to say "who are you to criticize....blah blah" "Id like to see you do it....." at least you "loved" what i had to say.lol nothin wrong with backing things up... and yes, it was about ME ...MY OPINION of mr. copelands performance with the almighty Bela!
You are right nrambold you are not a drummer or from the sound of your comments musician for that matter. Have you ever heard any fusion music played before? Stewart Copeland is one of the best drummers around and would not be playing with this group if that wasn't the case. Just because it sounds odd to you does not mean in that the drums sucked. It means that you do not understand jazz fusion and should go back to listening to something with no more than three chords and two changes.
I'm a drummer of 20 years that plays jazz all the time. I love Copeland and the police, but I do not dig his playing at all on this. I think he ruins the integrity of the song.
Stewarts not trying to attempt anything he's playing for the enjoyment, thats what playing an instrument and music is about for the enjoyment and not to getting elitist about it. I wish I could play as good as the bloke
Geez, even with Stanley Clarke laying down the foundation, Stewart Copeland still rushes. You would just think that sometime after the Police stopped touring regularly and now, he could have invested 20 bucks towards the purchase of a metronome. I guess old habits die hard.
This tune is by Strength in numbers a group the Bela played with with the one of the greatest bassists and composers Edgar Meyer, Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush, and Mark O'Connor
Edgy and not relaxed but still great to listen to?? What the hell does that mean? If it sounds good then what's the problem? I just amazes me how some people criticize like mad with no foundation.
I think Copeland can hang, this is his type of music. Plus it's not straight reggae either, it's kinda a fusion. And its' clearly some impromtu jam at the MIM. Sorry if it's not perfect. Sounds great to me, I guess I must be tone deaf to not question Clarke, Fleck and Copeland.
There's only one bass player I can see Bela playing with besides Victor - and that's Staley. And Stewart's great - who's the violinist? She get's no props....
Amazing rendition... Bela' is amazing... then add more amazing... and you get unbelievable!!!

@RobZiak - The violinist is Karen Briggs. Her solo stuff is sort of Classical/R&B. I first saw her with Yanni (sorry).

I'm gonna have to agree. The drummer needs to cool it. I don't need much experience to know when something sounds too percussive.
RobertELee01 2 years ago
Oh, and he looks a bit concerned about bela confusing his solo bit.
HamburgerTrain11 2 years ago
It is deliberate. Jazz technique to give a give a tiny delay groove. Well implemented with this dub style song.
He's the drummer from the police btw.
And Oysterhead!! :)

you should pay more attention, you assumed i didnt play an INSTRUMENT
and i have'nt criticised mr copeland once.
also, try and not be so abusive
grazer770 2 years ago
i do play an instrument and stanley clarke is one of my heroes.
as i say it is my opinion and YOU should'nt base your opinions on assumptions.

yes, well it is my opinion.
sorry if i offended what little musical sensibilities you have.
just like a lot of great actors, great musicians sometimes make a pile of shit.

lochs of dread. dread locks!! genius!!!!!!
a very poor and uncool attempt at a reggae beat with some very boring solos.
personaly i think a lot of musicians get away with murder in the name of jazz.
i know i should not criticise. sorry
