Hey touch rugby in Japan very cool...a J mate played Oz rules footy when he came over to visit, did pretty well too considering he'd never played anything like it...cool vid man : )
Ahh, I used to play tag rugby when I was younger, 6-10 years. Then we went into full contact and have been playing it for about 8 years now. Rugby's awesome! :)
See you in 2011 for the world cup, hopefully England will win... but damn, South Africa are good!
Touch is a fantastic sport - simple, no real gender/age barriers, and good exercise.
Real rugby is great as well, although as a Kiwi, we all have huge respect for your ice hockey and what those guys do. I guess if you can deal with that, rugby is nothing at all :)
I played a lot of touch rugby in NZ, but never serious rugby - I started that after I came here. Also, I had never played tag before coming - I think tag is a great invention.
Touch rugby is a great way to get into the sport. It's safe, fun, and great exercise. If you like it, rugby is a different challenge altogether but I love the game!
They've actually been playing rugby officially since 1926. A whole bunch of good NZ rugby talent has headed to Japan over the years too, and I see Craig Wing has just quit the NRL for Japanese rugby. I bet they'd be a real strong rugby nation if only they were generally built more like rugby players :)
The young kids nowadays are as big as any foreigners, and they are getting better with all the foreign talent. The Japanese national rugby team holds its own now against any team in the world in lineouts and scrums - just lacking a bit in open play power and creativity. It will be good to see them realize their potential!
That is good to hear, and I'd love to see them go well. I've always had a soft spot for Japanese Rugby - I still remember that unbelievable 1995 World Cup match where the AB's beat them 145-17 and Simon Culhane put 45 on the board on debut. I'm sure they've come a long way since those days!
Haha, weelll, I play, AND I referee union (got certified with the Tokyo Union last week) so I'd have to say I am a union guy (everyone in NZ is) but it doesn't mean I don't love watching and have huge respect for the skills of the league guys. Love watching Origin and Kiwis vs Kangaroos test matches especially!
The Boks are monsters at the moment. By the way, the Lions tests were I think some of the best rugby I have seen since the 95 world cup. The All Blacks will struggle, but cheers for the extra support!

This definitely wants me to play some of this. Maybe it's because I'm a puss, but flag sports seem more fun.

Funny thing is that this is right in the center of the city - Tatsumi is a reclaimed area right by Tokyo Bay. Really nice though, a real oasis.

Rugby Union for the win!
Haha, I remember when i first got into rugby. My grandad made me watch the world cup in 03.
We (england) haven't played like that since.
*sigh*
Good luck with South Africa on Saturday. When i'm not cheering England i'm cheering the All Blacks.
