No, that's really how you pronounce octopus. I can imagine it being said in a generic American accent, but still.
I do have to question "pull" though. I'm not saying it's incorrect, just that 'l's really muddy the water when teaching people how to pronounce stuff. I'm thinking "Where does the noun end and the consonant begin?"
