  • In reality:

Chester: OK. Ellena, whatever you do, send Adol to save me afterwards.

    Ellena: OK, got it.

*after cutscene and a couple days later, Chester appears in Ellena's dream*

    Ellena: Chester, is that you?

Chester: yes, and I have one thing to say.

    Ellena: Well, what is it?

Chester: I told you to send Adol to SAVE me, you idiot! *bitch-slap*

  • That background makes me sick...

  • that stunt at 1:15 was impressive. I figured for sure you'd have taken a hit or 50 XD

  • What DOES the Mirror do?

  • Ah, a "But Thou Must... die" scenario. Hopefully, Adol won't get any funny ideas about trying to really save Chester...

  • Hey, DC. Have you ever played Ys. Ark of Napishtim?

It is the game that first got me interested in the Ys series, and pritty much redefined the way they make the Ys games.

The biggest thing that they changed is that the game is finally balanced, and you do not have to spend hours level grinding just to make it through the area.

  • Yeah, I hate this boss. Good job on killing him.

  • I'll stick to Soul Blazer for games where the hero swings his sword like a lawnmower blade, thanks.

  • Hah, hit points and experience hit their memory size limits. Aren't SNES games cute?

  • Few plans are more insidious than being purple.

  • That's okay DC, we don't want you to be a perfect player. Watching you play obscure but good games is still a pleasure, and kinda makes you want to play it yourself too.

I still think Chester is a really weird name for an RPG, no matter what the localization did; and unfortunately Ellena is still alive.

  • Chester?

I wonder if you played Tales of Phantasia.

  • Islands may not have hearts, but they do have cores.

    Sometimes even undead cores.

  • Must have been painful redoing the fight multiple times, some SNES games can be so unforgiving.

  • Still finding myself confounded over Ellena and Chester's apparent ease at moving around mazes and monster riddled areas.

  • So long, Chester. Only those who go to the heart of an island to die deserve to have lower-case letters in their name.

  • lets go singing ninja tank

  • The LP would be suckier if he never died.

  • @yuriatayde You feel cheated because you weren't able to see DC fight the whole boss over again?

Because he's always shown the endings.

  • I wonder why Galbalan never bothered to use the antigravity stones you see floating in the background to destroy you. There seems to be plenty of 'em.

  • If sinking the island would permanently get rid of Galbalan, and the people of Ellena's village knew how to sink it, then ... Were they all as dense as Ellena?

  • Too bad Ellena didn't die. She will always be dead in my memories.

  • Islands do have hearts and I have proof. If islands don't have hearts then where does island courage come from!!!!! (5 exclamation marks is a sign of true insanity)

  • Couldn't beat 'em in one straight recording, huh? I don't blame you. The final boss is so broken.

  • 1:17 Had that been any closer, you would've been in the damn Matrix.

  • The mirror stops enemies. Apparently. Which of course means it doesn't work on bosses.

  • Can't wait to see how cheesy the ending is!

  • Oh, you have no idea just how cheesy it gets...

  • Dangerously cheesy? You know, because of Chester.

  • There is quit a big difference between "sealed" and "dead".

  • "islands don't have hearts"

    They have cores, remember DC?

  • I think the important thing we've learned from these last two videos is "Galbalan dislikes amulet".

But yeah. Congratulations on beating such an annoying boss. Consequently, I looked up the last couple of scenes with the voice acting and yeesh, you were right. That's HORRIBLE. Especially since Adol seems to refuse to talk when everyone else does.

  • this is one thick plot.

  • Chester, destroy the island's core!

    No, wait. Don't do that.

  • And here I thought some other end bosses were tedious with limited time to attack them...

  • that floor is whack yo

  • The whackest.

  • where did Galbalan get all these rocks?

  • Yard sales

  • 8:57

Have you forgotten Cave Story already!? D<

    They have cores.

    And...um, zombie cores.

This island would totally have a zombie core.

  • They...they lower-cased CHESTER...

Also, that boss fight seems really tedious. And, because I can't resist: The People of the Village.

  • So Ellena doesn't want you to hurt the evil boss, but is ok with her brother dying.

  • PEOPLE OF THE ...village...oh never mind.

  • "Chester will always be alive in my memories."

So delusional nostalgic immersion is Ellena's way of dealing with grief. She'll be the looniest old lady in her old folks home.

...assuming Adol lets her live that long should they develop a love interest.

  • its the end already? aw man.

  • You are a much more patient man than I, DeceasedCrab.

  • HOW IS HE GOING TO ESCAPE WITH HIS INJURIES.

Well, DC? How is he going to?!? This is important vital information that must be presented to the public!

  • Ellena sure cares when Galbalan dies and goes on about the ethic ramifications of killing him but is totally ok about her brother dying.

    She's stupid.

  • Would Galbalan count as a flying purple people eater? And islands have no hearts? I'm sure StarTropics would have something to say about that.

  • Yeesh, wonder if they intentionally made Ellena out to be sociopathic.

Or really really stupid, it's hard to tell.

  • But... What about the people of the Bellacetine castle?

  • I like how Elena, of all people, is telling you where NOT to go.

  • I think this is one good example of when you can blame the game for your lose. These hitboxes look horrible.

  • Regarding that awesomely timed Ring of protection block towards the start:

Apparently Adol knows Adamant Skin Technique, which must be nice for him... less so for Galbalan.

  • So, Ellena, you won't save the brother you've known all your life, yet you don't want Satan incarnate to get killed because he's so flippin' precious. GOD, you're a MORON. You need to PRIORITIZE what you care for, okay? I'd say we should just shoot her in the face, but then she would hug the pistol and claim it was misunderstood.

  • Ellena, heart of the island?

I knew you weren't smart, but... what ARE you tripping on!?

  • CHESTER: [I must go...] [I must head to the center of the island to destroy its heart.]

ELLENA: [No, brother! Let me go instead!]

CHESTER: [I would, but we want a melancholy ending, not a happy one.] [Besides, I'm sure you will follow me down there impulsively, No?]

ELLENA: [No, I only do that with red-heads.]

    CHESTER: [Ah.]

  • CHESTER: [I must head [I must go...] island to destroy its heart.]

ELLENA: [No, brother! Let me go instead!]

CHESTER: [I would, [Besides, I'm sure you will follow me down there impulsively, No?] happy one.]

ELLENA: [No, I only do that with red-heads.]

    CHESTER: [Ah.]

  • Wow I was just making a bad nesting textboxes joke here but upon closer inspection that all sounds really vile.

  • Wow this really is a short game.. for an RPG.

  • You say Herb as Erb?

  • The H is silent... in America!

  • DC doosnt know proper english grammer.

  • Ha ha ha ha ha! Oh wow.

  • Think this was a joke, guys! No need to be so harsh on the fellow.

  • Well he ought to tell me that beforehand next time, before I block him.

It didn't seem like one, and I err on the side of caution.

It's also "doesn't" and "grammar", so...

  • good game, meh plot, but short o.O and way difficult

  • What I noticed about Wanderers of Ys is: it seems like it's quite a fun game BUT the combat relies too much on hit-box abuse/trickery. Either the enemies are swinging at air and missing you or you are. In my book that's very frustrating and a testament to poor hit detection code more than anything else.

  • Big and floaty and purple!

  • One of the reasons why Ys is one of my favourite series in RPG's is because they break that stereotype of RPG's being pushovers. Anybody who wants a challenge really needs to meet Galbalan.

  • Don't RPGs have like...choices?

  • What is this... choice you speak of?

  • Technically all games have choices, so I have no clue what it is exactly you're getting at. I mean, Super Mario Bros. has choices. I guess Super Mario Bros. is an RPG now because I choose to jump in that warp pipe to world 8 instead of running through 7 other levels!

  • That's a superficial choice. An RPG has dialog options, which ought to change what happens to say nothing of the plot. SMB is "action." Ys...well, you can buy things, but whether it's an option or the shop is hyperbole is another matter.

  • The final battle! Item-spamming! Use that RING! Cleave that- Oh. You died. Phase transition! Ding! Oh wow it's like almost dead And you have full health And then you cut it And then it totally died And then I stopped this. CHESTER goes for core Trying to seal GALBALAN Didn't you kill it?!
  • THE PLOT THICKENS!

    ...

  • People of the Bellacetine castle!

  • Now I'm torn between following DC's orders in The Power to name a band Needlessly Huge Penguin or go with People of the Bellacetine castle

  • the hitbox is ridiculous

  • I think that's the name of People of the Bellacetine Castle's first album.

  • great lp dc! keep em coming!
