For a moment I thought that it was my leg over there...I went through this too...made a full video out of it 6 months of rehab and some inspiration in it.Please everybody who is struggling with ACL problems or struggled in the past watch it,I can assure you pure motivation !!! Thank you
I had my surgery on April 19th. I've been doing really well!! I'm going to the doctor in 2 days and hopefully he will tell me I can go back to gymnastics :))) it's been almost 4 months and I'm dying to get back to competing
i has surgery on march 21st on my right knee i had acl reconstruction and mensicus repair. im going to physio but my knee still wont straighten so im more likely to go in for another operation. im 15 and a girl and i love sports and i cant do anything and im still on crutches iv done hydrotherapy and normal therapy and my knee is just not straightening has this happened to anyone else??
@tayla12354 i had surgery april 25 and my knee wont straighten either. might be scar tissue blocking. im 14. did u end up having the second operation? how did it go ?
@tayla12354 i had surgery april 25 and my knee wont straighten either. might be scar tissue blocking. im 14. did u end up having the second operation? how did it go ?
my scars are very small a few small incisions, I was given an epidural and anastatia and they froze my leg, so I wouldnt feel the post-op pain. I would say it worked because I barely felt anything except for the numbness of my legs.
i had one 2 weeks ago, and i stayed in a hospital for 24 hours only... didnt have any pain after surgery as so many people say, and i was taking painkillers only for 3 days after surgery... so wasnt that bad, wasnt it? now is the longer part of ACL injury... rehabilitation...
damn thats a huge incision compared to what i have my scars are just like argbarb8 just 4 little holes and a small cut but still i feel ur pain knee surgeries suck and the first 3 or 4 days are painful as hell
I'm just tryin 2 get some info on when exactly did u get rid of this annoyin swelling? I cannot do any rehabilitation because of that, it doesnt hurt as much as I was told, but its just annoying thank u
had my ACL reconstructed this wednesday gone..........they did it completlely different to what i thought, they did a long incision from half way down my thigh to past knee cap and they put me in plaster.....
Sweet! I had one big incision n 4 small ones with a whole in the back of my leg.. scars nice n fully healed now tho, barely even see it :) How's it going with you now?? 2 years since I had mine n not all that bad, still get aches n pains sometimes but its gonna hapen, eh? :D
i took my patella, i feel good as hell right now and im 8mths out. I wasn't able to go to rehab like i wanted So i did what i could on my own. i would say im about 80%, still nervous as ever cause you don't to feel that pain again.
Every one says i look like im 100% though. I tell you what, getting you knee rubbed is the best feeling in the world. lol
it really just depends on what type of reconstruction you choose. i tore mine during homecoming in october and was able to play the last two games of the season without a proper brace. i just had surgery on dec. 29th and i had only 4 minor incisions (i also tore both meniscus's) about a half inch long a piece. im already able to walk and im doing awesome at therapy. i feel very little pain and i can almost fully bend my leg (heel to butt) and i can straighten it fully. good luck with it
yo im a month into my joint, got muscel definition comin back into the quad, rebab is a b but, hell i got to get back on the field. barely got a scar on my knee. my surgen is the truth. had to go to hospital for aweek after surgery i got got blood clots,\so 2 weeks into rehab, my knee lookin pretty good, still a lil swollen, bending it 95degrees, can flex the quad real good.
I have my surgery wed dec 3, I am going the hamstring route. Don't want to risk a cadver with the small percentage of a hidden HIV. I need to be able to have the ability to kneel at times and the patella was out of the question. I have no choice about the surgery it is either that or not walk. My accident happened 10/18/08
I'm getting surgery in 2 weeks for my torn ACL. I'm pretty sure i'm going with the Hamstring tendon as a replacement, but my doctor said i can always switch to patella before the surgery. any tips on which i should get?
i took the patella, my dr said the hamstring tendon stretches and i dont want that, but dependin on the sport you play it might go good for you. I wen with the highest success rate which in my reserach and talkin to people was the patella. i heard good about the hamstring and patella, so dependin on what sport you play, find out which one work best for ya.
My doctor told me that in the end, both the patellar tendon ACL and the hamstring ligament ACL had the same strength, BUT: for some people the patellar tendon gives problems with pain in the front of the knee, AND the hamstring tendon may have a bit longer time before return to full activity, because the hamstring ligament can stretch, if the return to sport is rushed. They go back in and have a "second look" expecting a tear, but the ACL is only over-stretched. Up to 12 months healing time
Up to 12 months healing time with the hamstring; it may be a few months faster than that with the patellar tendon ACL. Mine surgery was arthroscopic, so I have four small (~1 inch) scars around the knee. (If you are wondering: Taekwondo.)
Hi. You asked whether it hurt and how hard it was to walk. I am now 4 weeks out (in 20 more minutes it will be exactly one month). They had good pain relief going with both general anesthesia and a nerve block. I needed morpine the first night (which was not unusual to the nurses and they brought it right in). If your surgery goes like mine, you will be released from the hospital in a full extension knee brace. You need that brace because your muscles cannot support the knee joint well.
I found that without the brace, my knee would do funny things (even in bed); it would kind of "collapse." Some other hospitals (for example, Mass Gen) have their ACL patients on a continuous knee motion machine. I did not have that. My biggest problem was "nigh pain", meaning, when the whole world gets quiet, your brain focuses on the aching knee. My meds took care of that mostly, but I did watch some late night infomercials. Physical therapy concentrates on building up the muscles.
For example, the exercises have you strengthening your quads (on the front of your thighs) and your hamstrings (on the back). I am also doing other exercises and stretches-I am extremely motivated. One interesting thing at my PT is an electrical machine hooked up to the quads. It is called the Russian and it feels like a car battery discharged into your thigh. They ask you to contract your thigh muscles as it discharges.
I am walking without any brace, with no limp (or perhaps a minor limp-but not due to pain). However, I have to "protect the graft" and cannot do anything radical. I may start running again by the end of the year, but martial arts will have to wait until next summer (oh, and I cannot ski this winter, I think).
say i only got one lil hole in mine and a scar down the middle. only needed 1 screw. he said i was luck with the tear if u can imagine that. lol. but over all, it feels damn good. the meniscus is a b!!! that slowed me down the most.
Agree. I tore my LEFT medial meniscus ten years ago and that hurt a lot. It really took six months to where I could jog and another year after that before I could run.
**One trick I learned was: before running, do a few exercises to tone up the muscles that support your knee. My theory is after sitting around, the muscles are flaccid and if you DO NOT spend five extra minutes warming ("Toning") those thigh muscles up before running, the knee will not "track" (for lack of a better word) optimally. I found that if I did some preparatory knee exercises before running, I could run with zero pain. If I didn't do them, the first quarter mile would be a b____.
ture i went with the patella, man this shit hurts!!. but, im moving a lil better on day 3. I got the pcm machine iused it once, im not using it until i take the dressing off. ITS way too painful and idont have no more pain killers.
I did it this kind of surgery 2 weeks ago. My leg its just like yours. The same scar, only just a little bit less swollen. Im using ice above my knee like every 2 hours (it´s very recommended) Im going every day to rehab, its really useful to improve the movement of your knee. The only thing that scares me is that already i dont have the confidence when i use my knee for walking , i feel it very unstable.
That depends on each person. I was ok until I started to train again about 6 months after the surgery then I started thinking about what if I injury myself again. I recommend you just relax because you have a long road ahead of you and you will be fine.
No need to cry !!! I choose this kind of surgery. I used my patella tendon to reconstruct the ACL since my doctor told me this procedure is the one that gives the most stability, and I don't regret it ! My need is 100% and very firm.
right now as i speak, I'm recovering from acl surgery, it sucks, but I made peace with it. I went to pt once yesterday and it went well accept I cannot move my leg from my knee to down. Is this normal? Am I suppose to gain the ability to do so? I'm kinda worrried.
did u get an autograft or an allograft? (ur own muscle or a cadavers?) i just got my acl done today and it was an autograft, i havent seen it yet bu thats the incision i have. 16 staples in my right knee
I got an autograft from my hamstring muscle. jeez that sounds painful (abit like the dude above) I think the reason for that massive incision is because they used ur knee cap tenants instead of hamstring. Some surgeons prefer hamstring over knee cap tenants.
