Of course, people who don't make much money don't pay much in taxes. You can't pay more than you earn. The top 50% income bracket earn approx. 7 times what the bottom half earn. So, it's only logically that they pay more but they don't pay 7 times as much. I'm an avid Capitalist who appreciates fairness. We can have both.

@srvblueslvr The President requested a ban on earmarks. Just last week, he informed Congress that he would veto any bill the contained earmarks. If you knew anything about how government works, you would be aware that appropriations are made by Congress, not by the President. Senator Inouye, on the appropriations committee, took such action just last week. Republicans have announced a "moratorium" for 2 years which I predict means, if they win the WH in 2012, they want them back!

Use that to mislead people if it gives you satisfaction. Frivolous items should be cut but not all earmarks. I agree that it isn't fair The wealthiest 5% pay less per $1 of income than those making less than $250k. Social Security Ex: Those who earn less than $106k, pay Social Security on every dollar earned. Those making more, only pay to that limit but collect the same or perhaps more Social Security than middle class earners. Liberals didn't do that.

Paying 40% on 87% of the nation’s income is a pretty good deal. The top 10% earned 46% of all income, paying an avg of 18.7% tax rate. The top 50% paid an avg of 13.65% on 87% of the nation’s income. The bottom 50% earned less so of course they paid less!

Of course, people who don't make much money don't pay much in taxes. You can't pay more than you earn. The top 50% income bracket earn approx. 7 times what the bottom half earn. So, it's only logically that they pay more but they don't pay 7 times as much. I'm an avid Capitalist who appreciates fairness. We can have both.

That is not a flat tax. 10% of every $ that we earn is the same as 10% of every $ Warren Buffet earns, including dividends/stock options. No deductions, no income ceiling,. That's a flat tax that is fair. The marriage penalty was eliminated for the 15% tax bracket. That expires this year (2011) Finance committee has it for review (legislation to make it permanent.)

@LongRangeAce GE isn't the only corporation paying no taxes. Exon Mobile paid $0 US taxes in 2010 (2009 income) on $40+ profit. Chevron, Citi Bank and Bank of America: $0 taxes to the IRS. Politicians like to point out that corporations are subject to a 35% marginal tax rate. But most corporations pay 12%-15% and some pay $0 because of reported losses, exemptions, and/or waivers.

That falls largely on the parents, not the teachers. Some parents just don't care, while others are working two & sometimes three jobs to keep a roof over their heads. @srvblueslvr The President requested a ban on earmarks. Just last week, he informed Congress that he would veto any bill the contained earmarks. If you knew anything about how government works, you would be aware that appropriations are made by Congress, not by the President. Senator Inouye, on the appropriations committee, took such action just last week. Republicans have announced a "moratorium" for 2 years which I predict means, if they win the WH in 2012, they want them back!

Use that to mislead people if it gives you satisfaction. Frivolous items should be cut but not all earmarks. We pay a lot of taxes & we'd like our representatives to target some of it to improve our local economy or infrastructure. As everyone keeps saying, It's OUR Money! I'd like our community to benefit from some of it.

New laws and Independent prosecutors will put lying, corrupt Politicians behind bars for the rest of their pathetic lives and Americans will be protected.

Please name one politician that doesn't lie? It is not a Bush or Obama thing or a conservative - liberal thing. They all like to either get or keep their power. Hell they don't even write or read the bills that effect all americans. So often it depends on who is telling the lie that upsets people. We don't expect elected officials to tell the truth. We know they are lying when they run for office but since we are voting for them it's okay--but not the other guy.
