@vanessaxsureen Retail experience is huge with MAC and any Cosmetic company. I worked in retail at the mall for several years. It might be easier getting in as a freelance artist.. In the meantime try getting some retail experience under your belt.
im not a makeup artist, im not into makeup at all, im surelly not looking for a job at mac, but for sooome reason i find this very interesting, thanks for sharing.
Hi, I have a bring the model interview on Wed. I have some questions, when you said being sanitary is important, did you disinfect your brushes before you used them infront of them, even though I'm sure you started with clean ones?
So she matched the foundations? did she tell you which type of mac foundation to use?
Is it ever ok to use your hands on the models face, like to help blend the foundation as lisa eldridge often does here on youtube?
@AspiringMakeupArt I didn't get it, I learned a lot though. Was so stressful. Couldnt find a model because I just moved to hawaii & knew no one, at the last minute, found someone. 2 of us were interviewed & they switched the models on us, which was ok since I've never met my model, but the model I got was african american, & was darker than anyone I've worked on, so that was a challenge, the colors they set out (for a kim Kard. pic) were to light, looked ashy & I didin't finished in time :(
Hi there! I was just wondering... I really want to apply at MAC. I'm still in school for something totally different, but I've been freelancing for a while now... On my own... Never have worked for a cosmetic company, and never actually had a real job just worked for myself. Would I still be able to get a job there even though I technically have no retail experience? Would I be able to include the makeup gigs I've done as a freelancer? What would I be able to include in it? Thank u so much! :)
@Vanessa95076 It REALLY hurts your chances of gettiing in with NO Retail experience. I wouldn't let that stop you though. I have heard of a handfull of artists getting in with no retail. It really varies per store or counter. I would apply and talk to the manager about your experience. I'm sure they can explain exactly what they are looking for :)
@AspiringMakeupArt Thank u! I was also wondering if you had on your resume any make up artist classes or Cosmo Licence? or if you were just freelancing at the time?
@vanessaxsureen I always ask what type of skin my clients have. Dry skin I use Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre. Combo/Oily skin I may skip moisturizing or apply Embryolisse Emulsion Hydra-Mat. The foundation I normally use, does not need a primer. But if I use another formula I will apply Makeup Forever HD primer or if I airbrush I will use a Silicone Base Temptu Primer.
@pebbles6408 I was fortunate to walk into a demo where the MAC Manager set EVERYTHING up for us. She picked out the foundation, set up moisturizer, primers and setting powder for us. All we grabbed was the eye, lip and blush products. There were brushes and mascara wands already laid out for us too :)
@DianaJimenezMUA I basically talked about how simple yet durable, portable and inexpensive this pen was. It was a cheap ball point pen so I didn't have much to work with lol. But the point was to make her feel she NEEDED this pen in her life. lol. I would check out some QVC videos for selling tips. Those ladies are amazing!
They called me for an interview last week but i was out of the country. I think its for freelance work. So they basically just call you when they need you? Its not a set schedule huh? Not sure if that will work for me but im going to see what its about.
i've interviewed with them and completely bombed... my retail skills werent as great as they should be.. i am a freelance makeup artist in nyc.. i tried numerous times applying to mac and havent heard anything :-( i've worked with a few music artists on set for their videos and also bridal work.. do you think its okay to include that in my resume when i apply?
@DianaJimenezMUA Yes! I would apply with all makeup related references. And keep trying! Retail is really big with all makeup stores and counters (sadly) but I've heard of people getting in with NO retail experience! Just practice! Practice in front of a mirror, or with a friend. Sell them makeup, sell them clothes. Personally, I practiced with a pen, and sure enough thats what they asked me to sell them! A cheap ball point pen! Hahaha. You can do it! ;)
did you already have retail experience? I have applied but I have never worked at a store does that matter to them? I have only customer service experience
@valleychica1 I do have some retail. That is very important to MAC and also Sephora. Preferably 2 yrs experience. I have heard of some people getting in without any retail backround, but it can be hard.
@Hellsing00050 Hey there! Available Classes vary per state. She should try doing some research online as to what makeup workshops are available locally or which travels to or around her city. (HEX is a great one!)
If she cannot take a formal class, theres nothing like practice! Tell her to practive on anyone and everyone she can get her hands or brushes on! ;)
@JJChanel Hey there! Working as a Freelancer is basically working "On Call" or "As Needed". You may work every week.. once a month.. once every few months. It really just depends on what the need is and what hours they may have available. Hope this helps!
@SarahFemAquarian Hey Sarah! Thanks a bunch! You don't need either of those things to work for MAC or qualify for the pro card.
As far as working there, retail experience is key. They want to know you can sell their products. Having experience with makeup, either at a counter or freelancing, is definitely a plus. To qualify for the pro card, check the macpro site on what is needed to qualify... Personally, I just sent in my business card and professional makeup artist flyer & I was eligible :)
hey great video i just subbed i want to apply at mac but am nervous cuz i only practice on my self i am trying to get people to practice on so can you give me an example of how to sell a pen if i get asked that question if i apply and any more tips it'll be a great help Thankyou
@Maannoo Thanks for subbing! I think its awesome your going for what u love! Definitely apply! You will be your very best model. Always available & willing to try anything! Practicing on yourself is the very best thing u can do.
I know what its like not finding someone u can work on, but keep asking friends &family. Once you perfect your craft, they'll be begging for u to work on them ;) To sell the pen hold it like its worth $1000. Talk up its design, easy to travel & product guarantee,etc....
mac rejected me and said its cos i have no retail experience :(
where did you go to get your retail experience at before you applied to mac?
