  • The Miss America Pageant Was Created In 1921

  • HUZZAH!!!!

  • Guy Smiley has the most wonderful singing voice!

  • @zyber9 That's Jim Henson for ya'. God rest his soul.

  • @tpirman1982

I can mimic Jim's voice but... I'd only do it if people asked me to... I'd never want to do anythign to insult the spirit of my idol muppeteer

  • @DakariKingMykan Yeah I know. Jim Henson and Frank Oz have very distinct voices.

  • @bluestingerborg I Know

  • @DakariKingMykan Me Neither

  • I love that "should the winner not be able to fulfill her duties the runner-up will replace the next letter in every word it is used in the dictionary!" So imagino, having a world without any E. It will bo such a travosty and wo all do know that O (I rolly moan E) is the most usod lottor in tho alphabot.

SO OUR LETTER OF THE DAY IS 'E"!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OMG!

  • No. A was definatlely the hottest

  • @abluraskin (wolf whistle)

  • wat's so special bout an E?

  • @slapshot68 IDK

  • I so remember this segment thank you so much :)

  • This I'm sure inspired the theme LETTER OF THE DAY to be placed on the show regularly. The winning of the letter E and Guy's singing to it makes me emotional. Such a great clip!

  • @briansky10 EEEEEE!!!!!!!!

  • That video has weird groupings of E words. Eat Emu Eggs? Educational Ecstasy? Eels Exiting and Entering Ears? subliminal messaging strikes again.

  • @floydboy86 LOL

  • @floydboy86 Lol

  • This Is From 1986-1987

  • RIP Richard Hunt

  • Long Live Jim Henson!

  • RIP Jim Henson

  • Long Live Bert Parks!

  • RIP Bert Parks

  • The Letter S Is Performed

    By Pam Arciero

  • The top 5 all look like they're having a vowel movement. XD

A was awesome, U was unique, I was incredible, and O was outstanding but E was exceptional!

S was smashing and sensational in swimsuit. C was cheerful, charming and candid hence her win of Congeniality and T was tremendously talented with her terrific tap dancing.

  • The letter I got screwed!

  • What is Entomology and ecstasy?

  • @RnBeautyJazzflower

I agree with you whole-heartedly! I am forty-one years old and I watched it religiously until I was nine! In my opinion, it remained decent until the early to mid nineties. Then it really went downhill! What a shame!

  • That Millie and Molly segment before this! I would like to see it please! However I do remember this from my childhood!

  • @playmates101 That Is From Episode 2412, But IDK

  • @cstoczyn Thanks, but I was referring to the segment BEFORE the Letter Of The Day Pageant! I wanted to see that one!

  • @playmates101 Go To Deanmo23,

    He'll Tell You

  • @playmates101 It's On Episode 2411

  • Eat your heart out, Bob Barker.

  • @tyrese3745 Who's Bob Barker?

  • @cstoczyn What do ya mean "Who's Bob Barker"??? Seriously? Truth or Consequences, The Price is Right, ring any bells???

  • @tyrese3745 I Know Who Bob Is!

  • @cstoczyn I'm sorry. Didn't realize it was a joke. I was totally stressed out and tensed.

  • This skit was the first time I ever heard the word "Elegant". And I thought to myself "Don't they mean "Elephant"?

  • @Pikachuiscool

If my memory is correct, the first time that I heard the word "Elegant" was in a "Popeye" cartoon! Funny how people remember things like that!

  • Great video of the letter of the day.

  • Great video of the letter of the day.

  • My mom loves Guy Smiley!

  • And for Photogenic, the letter P! LOL

  • I believe I had seen this before. Thanks for posting it.

  • They used guy smile in the new season of SS for the 1st time in 17 yrs. He was performed by Eric Jacobson and as i expected he doesnt even remotely sound like Jim

  • Kevin also performed C, cause if you listen carefully it sounds like Elmo. Richard Hunt was E

  • How appropriate..E being the Letter of the Day, since, of course, it is THE most used letter (this coming from a question on my Millionaire CD-Rom game).

  • I believe E won was because E is the most used letter in our alphabet.

  • The five finalists are vowels.

  • That's right. Good observation!

  • @TsWade2 LOL

  • Is it just me, or does Guy Smiley's voice change when he starts singing the song near the end? I wonder if someone else sings the song and does the speaking at the end.

  • Nope... botht he singing and speaking were done by Jim Henson.

HE makes Guy sing like LINK HOGTHROB whom Jim also performed.

In fact, Brian Henson, his son, stated once that when Jim would do things like carve a thanksgiving Turkey, he would use Link's voice.

  • I never seen this video before on Sesame Street. I found out the letter "E" won the Letter of the Day Pageant.

  • Guy Smiley sings like Link Hogthrob. Jim once said that performing Guy strained his throat. So they pre-recorded his voice.

  • when I was a kid, I would SO totally cheer for O every time I saw this :)

  • I LOVED this skit just because he says entomology. I never forgot that word because of this skit !!!

  • And I wonder if the younger kiddies would even know what the word "Entomology" means.

  • Not really. If that subject was even used as a word of the day.

  • I love this, so much more creative than the new PC version of street. Both of my sons watch all the classic skits on youtube and prefer them to the modern version, though they do watch it.

  • That's terrific. A parent of young children who doesn't consider Old School Sesame Street unfit for them. And even better, your sons watch both, so now we know that some of today's generation prefers it to present day Sesame Street. That ought to give Sesame Workshop something to think about.

  • Looks like the announcer here is Kevin Clash, just like in "The School Game". That's pretty rare, as normally the announcer is either Jerry Nelson or Martin P. Robinson. Frank Oz also did it for at least two game shows during the first season.

Can anyone upload Guy Smiley singing "I'll Love You in Springtime"?

  • aw man this rocks! totally coute okay, i love sesame street to bits and pieces

  • Ironically, Congeniality for C; Talent for T; Swimsuit for S and the five finalists are the vowels, impressive, isn't it?

  • the judges were each bribed with $250

  • lol, good one.

  • And also impressive, the S was designed like a Snake (something that starts with S).

  • @namk19 GADZOOKS!!!!

  • i don't know, probably some idiot reported it

  • you're probably right.

  • Wow....can you say nostalgia??

  • My mom loves Guy Smiley's singing.

"Look at you. Are you so elegant."

  • @TsWade2 I think the song is based on "Here She Is," the song traditionally sung at the end of the Miss USA (formerly Miss America) Pageant.

  • @PCCphoenix Long Live Miss America!!!!

  • @PCCphoenix Long Live Miss USA!!!!

  • @PCCphoenix Long Live Miss Universe!!!!

  • @PCCphoenix Who Wrote And Composed This Song?

  • @cstoczyn Like I said, it was based on "Here She Is," the theme to the Miss USA (formerly Miss America) Pageant. I'm not sure who wrote the music but it might have been Sam Pottle, who was one of the regular composers for the Muppets.

  • @PCCphoenix But WDKY = We Don't Know Yet

  • @PCCphoenix It Was Written And Composed By Bernie Wayne

  • Comment removed

  • The letter C must think she's starring in "Gypsy" or something?

Who is the announcer at the beginning?
