Have you ever played through a Splawn Quick Rod Amp? Just ordered one and they are supposed to sound like different Marshalls. A modded Plexi, a modded JCM-800 and a 800 on Steroids :-) I love your 335, sweet guitar. Very nice tone you have.
cheater! The damn badger already is the perfect crunch background of an amp to place such a pedal. Sounds s-excellent. I wonder how it fairs in other, ahem, 6l6er amps or something.
i wonder how it sounds compared to a lovepedal plexi, wampler plexidrive, zvex box of rock? i´d love to hear a shootout. great playing as always, pete. love yr sound.
Hey Pete, brilliant review - would you recommend this in front of a Vox AC15C1? Really digging that amp but just for that extra crunch & gain I'm looking at this or the DC drive (but I heard the dc has less gain). Keep it up man! (Y)
@JamiesHereNow I just picked up a Carl Martin PlexiTone and am using it in front of an AC15C1. Sounds great! The Vox has some nice clean and slight breakup tones. The PlexiTone takes it into rock and hard rock territory, and sounds great doing it. Another pedal to consider is the Wampler Pinnacle. It can sound a bit more modern than the PlexiTone. Just depends on what you prefer. Both are the best distortion pedals I've ever had.
@LPMojoGL Thanks for the reply. If you had to choose just one of those two which one would you pick? I just checked out some videos for the Pinnacle, sounds pretty good actually, but I somewhat prefer the Plexitone - can it do some modern-ish sounds? We're spoilt for choice nowadays with amps/pedals/etc. ;-)
Hi Pete, love all your vids.. great playing there. Question, I actually am seriously considering going the route of a clean amp head with my gain and other effects coming from the pedal board. Do you have any recommendations on a good amp head for just clean playing. I cant figure out why fender does not make any heads anymore.. unless I am missing something?? Their supersonic is like 1700.00 plus.. but that has gain channels and such and not what I am looking for.
simply one of my guitar heroes! Interesting that u r using the 335. It seems it can get heavy, tight and rockdynamic without too much top vibrations! How do you find it?
top of the line demo,,,to the point and sounds grrrrrrrrrrreat!!!!!!!!! killer attack, and warm tone and paired to that 335 you cant go wrong........nice
Pete, this demo is flawless! Now I don't know if I want a plexitone or a pinnacle! Can somebody tell me about the difference between these two pedals (PM is ok) ?
Hey Pete, awesome demo! When you kicked into somebody get me a doc., it sounded like you had a little more gain going on than earlier, did you introduce an additional boost? Thanks, love your playing.- James
I have a wonderful Mesa Lonestar that gives the most beautiful clean tones I have ever heard but I was wondering if the plexitone would fit into the clean channel to give it some more crunch and push.
Dare I say?...Perfect demo. The tone is perfect. The playing is spot on...as is the explaination of how it works. Also, the pedalboard is perfect. Everything you need is right there in a relatively small space. And it's so nicely laid out and clean. It even satisfies my pedalboard OCD. I may just have to purchase a Plexitone to replace my main overdrive (which is, ironically, an OCD). Very nice.
This demo really made me happy. You see, I already HAVE a Carl Martin Plexitone and love it, but for some reason I´ve lately been thinking about buying a Blackstar HT Dual instead. The thing is that I find the HT Dual so fun to play on but when I really listen to the two pedals I find that the Plexitone sounds so much clearer and more true Marshall. A bit harder to master and more revealing but free from that bzzz-isch sound the Blackstar pedals and amps have.
All guitars were recorded through the plexitone. Even the bass.... but did the bass also go through the bassman head or was it recorded direct into a di and on into the recording interface? What Fender model bass is that?
I use it on the vintage channel of my Marshall Vintage Mordern amp. I like it a lot! It's the only drivepedal I use at the moment. Feel free to check it out on the liveclip on my channel.
Man that thing sounds great. Question for ya, I have a Marshall Class 5 which I love but want to really kick it into gear and get these tones. I assume if I put this pedal on the amp set just a little dirty I can nail these tones in spades? Cause unless I dime my class 5 (loud as shit for 5 watts) I need a pedal to get me there...
I'm thinking of getting one of these to put through the clean amp of my Peavey JSX for more Marshall tones occasionally. The JSX clean channel is VERY clean with no real breakup, do you think the PlexiTone would be a good fit for when I don't want to run the JSX Dirty Channel?
The only thing that sucks about Pete's demos is that I can't afford to run out and buy everything he shows! Pete could plug his guitar into a toaster and make it ROCK! Then I would want to buy a new freaking toaster!
Hey Pete, Is this still the best plexi in a pedal you have found? i think im going to get one, i use egnater and jet city soldano heads set clean and i think this would be really awesome for the evh tones and 80s rock tones.. what do you think? thanks!
@sessionfan I love the pedal, I think it'd work well in your application. you have to set the knobs somewhat unconventionally, it has lots of gain and output (I run level on 4, gain 1 on 2, gain 2 on 4 and the tone on half or below a bit usually)
Dude, Pete... you're my friggin' hero. You're a huge inspiration. I hate to be "that guy," but I love all your demos. You really know how to apply all of the things in a demo that are on all of our minds. Thanks, man!
Hey Pete! Great video! Are you sure you don't like this pedal because of the big "PT" letters? LOL! Just kidding. Is the jam song at the end of this video yours or someone elses? Sounds killer either way! The lead is awesome but the rhythm is smoking hot. Thanks for giving personable demos in whatever you do. Keep rocking!!
Hi Pete, smooth! Question, if you do not mind. I recently purchased a Dr. Z Maz 38 Senior NR. It's a great amp, but I am struggling with the tone. Most have told me, I will never get the sound I am looking for, that like a Marshall, through the open cab. Would you agree, or do you have a recommendation? Sorry to ask you, but I have no where else to go... ;-) Thanks So Much, Coco

I think he is so cool to share so much information with the fellow guitar players in a down to earth kinda way ! God bless you Pete Thorn !!!
Fantastic pedal. I use it in front of my 2203 that is set to a slight crunch, and the pedal just sends the amp into total singing saturation. I love using in front of a Marshall, because that way, you can have the amp sounding like it's cooking on 11 at any volume.

@sinasl1 Ok, probably the compression on the recorder or something. I LOVE your badger sound! What settings do you have on the badger for a typical clean sound like when you demoed the Carl Martin Plexitone? That pedal is awesome!! Didn't know it was that good until your demo of it. I dig your playing! Can't wait til your record is released, I'm buying it. :-)
Bitchen. Ok, so I see the Phase 90, the EVH Flanger, the TC PolyTune, the Plexitone of course, the Voodoo Labs Pedal Power, but can't tell what else you've got there. Would you be willing to detail the board a little? Pretty please? Thanks very much.
@mrzeppo I see an El Capistan Delay and Suhr Kokoboost. Don't recognise the Chorus pedal though. That is a big ass enclosure for a Chorus. Wonder what he uses the Koko Boost for?
Great demo! Thanks to your demo I ended up getting one and I am super pleased!!!
possibilities are endless...both as a tube screamer type boost or just an all around distortion pedal. I am really impressed. Actually sounds better than most amps out there!!!
Hey Pete! I was in the market for a pedal and as soon as I heard that you had one and raved about it on another website before this video, I bought one based just on that. I'll be sending you the bill by the way! :) Great demo and great playing as always!
Love this demo, I keep wathing it. Pete thorn seems like such a nice and cool guy too !! I think there is more going into this sound clip that the little pedal board though. There was a lot of reverb on the Evh track and it did not sound like pedal reverb either. Notice how most of the other clips on youtube sound pale in comparison ? I would love Pete to do a demo with no mike on the amp and just the pedal. Same with the Suhr Riot, sounded too good to be true..........and it was !!
@jem7772 Hiya, the verb you speak of on the little evh section I added in Logic- just like the real deal, it's "studio reverb". But there's no reverb on any other part of the video. Also the Riot video is the same, what you hear is what you get on that one. You just gotta turn the knobs right and mic the amp correctly!
@sinasl1 Hey Pete, Thanks for all the tips & Great Vid too ! You re the greatest man, so sorry if I may have offended you. I just think that most people who purchase a pedal, want to use it in a combo to get that big amp sound. I think many people are disappointed when they get one because they dont have that lush studio reverb and miked amp tone they hear on youtube in many vids. That is a lot of gear for the average Guitar Guy.
Excellent demo Pete. I just bought a PlexiTone on Ebay because of this. Gonna see what kind of magic I can do to my Twin with it. And maybe even try it on the plexi channel of my XTC Classic to see what I can do there to kick it up a notch. Your stuff is always great. KUDOS!!!

The last demo song... was that played through the badger or the bassman?

Nice demo and great tones. Pete could make a lawnmower rock, though.
Guess its time to sell some more blood.

Did you use any compressors while playing? The clean tone on the badger sounded compressed compared to my badger 30...
knikk77 1 year ago
@knikk77 nope!
sinasl1 1 year ago
@sinasl1 Ok, probably the compression on the recorder or something. I LOVE your badger sound! What settings do you have on the badger for a typical clean sound like when you demoed the Carl Martin Plexitone? That pedal is awesome!! Didn't know it was that good until your demo of it. I dig your playing! Can't wait til your record is released, I'm buying it. :-)

@knikk77 run the gain on 3-4, tones on 4-6, and power and drive on 5. that's a good place to start. Then hit with pedals for gain

@mrzeppo id like to know that too!

Same with the Suhr Riot, sounded too good to be true..........and it was !!
jem7772 1 year ago

KUDOS!!!
