  • Emma: What did he say to you before he left? Harriet: Oh that my painting was coming along splendidly. Emma: Oh....He really must be in love

  • Gwyneth was ok but this girl knocked it out the park. She and JLM fit like hand in glove.

  • LOVE Gwyneth, but you have to admit: Garai does fit better... And I just love love love JLM

  • "That is a very good tree" Haha!

  • i agree with @AprilisHolmes.. Gwyneth Paltrow did a very good job as Emma.. the only thing i hated was her hair pulled back so tight in a bun..it looked like her hair would all fall out..

  • lmao love how emma waves shes all like "haaayy"

  • "That is a very good tree" I do wonder how he could say this ?! eewwwww

  • 4:21 Look at Emma's face LMFAO

  • what a selfish bitch rubbing her nose in every thing!

  • Emma is not very lady like, and I am sorry to say, Mr. Knightley neither, I mean the actor does not fit the role. My oppinion.

  • Well, Mr. Elten is more than handsome, but gosh, he sure is weird as hell ;D

  • Mister Elton it's too good looking for being just mister Elton!

  • Harriet looks a tiny bit like Nicole Kidman, in my view!

  • Dumbledore is that YOU?

  • I just totally love Miss Smith... she is even prettier than emma

  • "Oh yes I see how you have uh captured the uh light and uh.." Milton, bullshitting about art to impress Emma ;)

  • Let's cheer ourselves up: let us think of superior men. :D gotta love emma

  • Knightley's House looks like a rickety old haunted house or even a prison.. They should have chosen another location.

  • "he said my painting is coming along nicely"

"oh... he really MUST be in love"

    hahahahaha

  • THAT IS A VERY GOOD TREE

  • Hello Mr. Elton!

  • I love the preacher priest dude. HOTNESS.

  • Poor Mr. Martin.

  • is anyone cuter than Mr. Elton!? I DONT THINK SO. <3 omg his eyes are just... and his hair... and his smile... im in love.

  • That is a very good tree..HAHA

  • I feel SOOOO bad for Miss Bates here!!! No wonder she talks so much! She's home ALONE all the time, it'd be enough to make ANYONE go mad!

  • recently I saw again Kate Winslet and I was surprised, how quickly I forgot her because of Romola Garai...

  • how sincere elton sounds when complimenting their paintings :) its so funny how hard he tries

  • "that .. is a very good tree." hahaha

  • Romola remember me Kate Winslet when she was younger.

  • thanks for uploading this. It's lovely.

  • I love the way the horse slips as Mr. Elton rides toward Emma's house. The slip is serendipitous (for the director) and prophetic (for Mr. Elton). Mr. Elton stops at the top of the hill (his ego) and with a complacent look contemplates the Woodhouse's residence where he hopes to live one day. Great scene and editing.

  • Romola Garai is soo beautiful and talented!! Love her movies

  • bbc rocks

  • I always thought smith and elton should have been together. They were both really dumb and weird.

  • Am I the only one who is reminded of Mr. Collins in the way BR plays Mr.Elton?? I think it´s a bit over the top, book-Mr. Elton is not THAT obnoxious...

  • @HermioneNo1 I agree, but in the book I found that Mr. Collins was THAT obnoxious. Mr. Elton, I agree, wasn't SO obnoxious in the book.

  • @xmindframesafetyx absolutely, Mr Collins CANNOT be portrayed TOO obnoxious...!!l:-))) He´s quite something, in a league of his own...:-)

  • @HermioneNo1 Hahaha, yes. And, although Mr. Elton is...odd, I do not think that he is like Mr. Collins. Mr. Elton is not constantly trying to advise and critique everyone in their doings, like I thought Mr. Collins did. But I do think Mr. Elton is nearly as pompous as Mr. Collins :)

  • Austen was very right when she said that emma wasint going to be like, really the plain farmer as plain as he may be, of course he would be more worried for his sisters than reading a book, I would choose such a man over some other no so plain any day!!!

  • looks at the painting, resolution in her voice "Oh, he really must be in love" - haha, priceless!

  • Nah the Kate Beckinsale version still wins hands down. I expected better from the BBC after their wonderful version of Pride and Prejudice. Oh well...

  • Tamsin Greig is amazing in this film.

    @:25

Notice how she mentally blocks out her world of sadness--spinsterhood, poverty, decay, lonliness --by filling her life with letters from her niece.

  • shame he couldn't play a nicer character... but like this i can hardly dislike mr elton^^

  • That was a fine moment, depicting the desolation and loneliness of the Bates.

But every scene with Emma in it is painful to watch it's so bad.

  • why does gorgeous blake ritson play this stupid mr elton... he was soooo great in the role of edmund bertram...

  • @lizzy6791 I know, but he is quite dashing and somewhat attractive but then we realise what an arrogant pig he is!

  • woah black ritson at 2:09. ahhhhhh

  • i like this version much better than the one with boring, liveelss gwyneth paltrow

  • @olooshia Boring, lifeless?? She's just more subtle than Romola Garai.

  • @jessyquedens now that i think about it, it's more about GP's facial expression rather than her acting, it's like she's always secretly moping about sth, it struck me long time ago and despite efforts has not let go since. but i understand that some people do get past the expression or don't notice it in the first place so peace :)

  • @olooshia that version was absolute rubbish. i am a proud american, but i do hate how any literary adaptation undertaken (at least recently) is so...so superficial, so vapid, so...hollywood. i can hardly stand to watch any film produced today. i feel brain cells voluntarily committing suicide when i do.

  • @lorrainewands How can you say that? Do you not appreciate the beautiful 18th century clothes, the interior designs of all the estates, the tangled, sweet romances?

  • @tierraecho obviously not. ;)

  • @olooshia ..I don´t think so. Gwyneth Paltrow was amazing as Emma!!!

  • @olooshia yeah this s=version is much better and the cast look better...and less ugly and boring...

  • i love how jane austen, writes clergymen as either weirdos or as the hero (of sorts)

  • @bookfreak14 It is interesting considering her own father was a clergyman, it's also interesting that all of her heroine's fathers are either absent or ridiculous.

  • @WinningisforLosers Mr Bennet was not ridiculous... he was highly entertaining.

  • @bookfreak14 The hero clergymen never seem like clergymen (Northanger Abbey, Mansfield Park),but the weirdos are always presented as clergymen so you never forget what they are as they creep you out

  • I swear that is Frank churchill who keeps walking by ...in the last clip and at the beginning of this one!

  • LMAO! Oh Emma, how funny! "O, he really must be in love" love this, thanks.

  • I must admit i have always hated Emma but watching this i love it.

  • @DIGS179 oh i know even Jane Austen herself said she would be the only one to love Emma. I just hate that I love it!

  • Love the Edmunds! I so hope we get to see Miss Bates end up as happy as she did in the book.

  • "He MUST be in love..."

Whoever cast this must have gotten a kick out of it what with the Edmund phenomenon.

But honestly, this is the best-cast Emma so far, and Romola Garai is so good at showing us the young, rather immature yet engaging Emma--she's even better than Paltrow I think.

  • 2 Edmunds in one movie...how will we endure the joy!! Bravo!

  • Mr. Elton is supremely awkward and clingy though. I think he fits in quite well.

I wonder though what would happen if Mr. Elton and Mr. Collins met...

  • @treblemaker21 they would fall in love with each other...

  • lol! I could see that!! They are very alike but I think that Mr. Collins to drone on too much about Lady Catherine Debough and not enough about Mr. Elton and the relationship would be over. :)

  • yes there are great similarities between them

  • @treblemaker21 haha wow if they met that would sure be something!!!!

  • I imagine he must have been laughing on the inside the entire time :)

  • i love emma's hair! It's so beautifully done!

  • I can't stand to see "my Edmund" as Mr. Elton!!!

  • So I know I just commented on this video, but i'm watching this again after watching the 2007 version of Mansfield Park. Blake Ritson is so much more attractive in this movie, I think because his character is confident (ok arrogant...) rather than the shy, awkward character that is Edmund. Plus there's the whole thing with his hair being messed up that makes him devilishly handsome. Haha

  • mr. elton is kida creepy... but soooo hot!

  • I'm really liking this new version

  • Ugh! Mr. Elton is too too good looking in this movie. I just can't find him as creepy as I should!

  • Oh, Blake Ritson makes a fantastic Mr. Elton!

  • haha there are 2 edmunds

  • Nooo! He's EDMUND. not Mr. Elton. :(

  • LMAO at Harriet's painting

  • i dunno why but i love the part where he says "that is a good tree"...

  • wow, that pose looks SO uncomfortable!

  • Blake Ritson does a great job as Mr. Elton but i can't bring myself to get annoyed with it like i did the previous mr. eltons because i loved Ritson so much in mansfield park.

  • the part with harriet's painting is hilarious! blake ritson (aka mr elton) is very goodlooking... as is johnny lee miller (aka mr knightley) :)

  • O my gosh! Mr. Elton is SO cute. I mean the actor is...

  • sorry, misspelled. I mean "jolly"

  • Emma certainly gives a holly smile! thanks for uploading this! :D

  • omg, harriet's painting. lol!

"ohhh, he really must be in love."

    ahah!

  • Mr. Elton is sooo annoying!

  • Harriet looks like Nicole Kidman... :)

  • "Oh... he must be in love."

    ahahaa...

  • Stealing the pencil! ha ha ha so funny.
