he is throwing the 3 to far out and fast across. you need to throw them so they fall at the same time about a foot apart

Remember: siteswap notation has no bearing upon HOW, i.e. BY WHAT TECHNIQUE OR IN WHAT STYLE, the balls are thrown. The only thing required to satisfy the specified 5-3-1 is a HIGH (to the other hand, a MIDDLE (standard cascade toss), and a low (very short toss or a quick palm pass). Frankly, this particular siteswap isn't really all that impressive or interesting, no matter how it's done!

I also recommend practicing 501 (same pattern with two balls, minus the middle throw) and 5313 (531 in the same direction each time), which helps isolate and clean up the pattern on each side.
