my hope is that future flyign machines will be below 500ft of altitude. ANything above 500 ft makes it impossible to see anything in great detail. That is the one thing about flying which really does limit you that you don't see anything in great detail with the execption of mountain flying. flying when its totally cloudy is not very good as you see nothing but cloud. I really hate when its cloudly for the entire flight. It would be nice to fly at 5000ft for long journeys

The "open rotor" or more correctly, the unducted fan was tried on an Md-90 and deemed a failure. What these new single aisle planes and maybe new versions of the current A320 and 737NG series will likely have is a geared turbofan, which powers the fan through a transmission like a turboprop or helicopter, thereby eliminating the extra turbine stages found on current turbofans, which saves you pats cost, weight ,etc. Less complicated and more efficient.

that was not a 787 in the vid as it had over the wing exits. The 787 is not a direct replacement for the 737 as not only is the 737 still in production (and will remain to be for the forseeable future) but the 787 does not nearly have the same specifications as the 737; the 787 can seat up to 330 passengers in a high density configuration, the 737 can seat just 215 in high density.

Boeing will likely replace the 737 with an aircraft of similar seating capacity to cater for the 737's markets.
