Dolby 3D (so far cinema only) uses a spinning filter wheel betwean the projecter lamp and the imager , the filter wheel is in proper sync with the 3d content and shifts the light up and down in frequency the dolby 3d glasses have a special RGB filter for each eye that allows only the light of the proper frequeny to pass so each eye only sees the proper content . the glasses are returned and washed after each use which is very enviromental but more work to deal with.
Dolby3D glasses are in my opinion best (used in Finland in Sodankylä Lapinsuu theatre). Light and picture quality was good. I have watched 5 movies with XPanD and only on one (Tron Legacy) they caused physical strain. Avatar that was longer did not have any strain and was the easiest to watch on XPanD. I am very exited about two Android based smartphones that have real stereoscopic cameras and glasses free screen. IPad type device with those specs would be my "fantasy" to have.
@TODELLISUUSMEDIA When the 3D content for Avatar was created extensive care was taken to insure a natural Perspective correct low stress viewing experence as posable the left and right eye views are compared frame by frame and corected to insure exact frame object alignment betwen left and right eye views , color and shading betwen left and right eyes are all compared also. of course all 3d film makers are subject to the same rules and the closer they follow them the better the 3D content
You've basically covered them all, except a little known type that uses prisms on each eye to deliver a true color stereoscopic view (albeit smaller) of a parallel video. Unfortunately, only one style is available at Amazon, costs about $20 and the frames don't fit on your head if you wear them over glasses. Look up 3-D TV Stereo Prism Glasses
@bcin3d - Ah yeah you're absolutely right the openKMQ standard- I actually have a pair that I got from Thomas Kumlehn. I really should have mentioned them in my little round up. Sorry Thomas! And thanks to you bc for pointing out.
I have an auto-stereoscopic 3D display on my 3D camera, it also came with an auto-stereoscopic 3D picture frame, and I must say, that finding the right viewing angle can be very tricky.
My glassess don't work, I think it's because I used them for the theaters...

I selected ( no glasses) in the 3D mode, aka "cross eyed". How in Gods name is it possible, I tried crossing my eyes etc.
