  • Mads Mikkelsen, oh yeah a nice danish actor!

  • Much preferred the Sellers version.

  • yep

    awesome

  • typical cinema intro :)

  • This opening song was always very nice, but the title visuals themselves seem a little kitschy for me. I prefer the Quantum of Solace opening.

  • Pure brilliance! Period!

  • These opening titles deserve an oscar.. ouh, there isn't an oscar for opening titles?? Create it!

  • @domiethan Or best song, I can't believe it was snubbed for that award!

  • @kingofpointless Well, maybe there were better songs.. i can't remember which movies won an oscar in that year.. But,anyway, i agree! I love this song!

  • Incredible. Just incredible.

  • You know my name..can only mean one thing and it isn't M. The coldest blood runs through my veins means only one thing. The Glimmer Twins knew in the mid 60's. They had some sympathy for him if you recall..I won't write his name, he doesn't deserve it IMO

  • epic!!!!!

  • this is the best James Bond theme song except for maybe live and let die

  • Should have kept Vesper (Eva Green) alive as a recurring character she's sultry intelligent with room for loads of character development.

  • Thumbs up if he's the most badass James Bond ever!

  • Loved this movie

  • Another excellent video of this movie's beginning.

  • They should let Lady Gaga or Marilyn Manson sing the next bond song.

  • best bond song

  • Interesting point: many think 'You Know My Name' refers to Bond's catchphrase, 'The name's Bond... James Bond.' But if you listen to the lyrics I would deem it far more likely that the lyrics are told from the perspective of M, who, having just promoted Bond to 00 status is having doubts about his capabilities because of his arrogance and recklessness: ‘I’ve seen diamonds cut through harder men’, 'I will replace you’. I think 'You Know My Name' refers to when Bond finds out what M stands for.

  • @electricuncledave I also think that "I've seen angels fall from blinding heights; but you yourself are nothing so divine" is referring to the fact that M has seen many a 00 die, and the chances are he'll follow in their footsteps.

  • @RubberRhubarb Indeed, if you imagine M reading these lyrics to Bond they almost read as a warning to bond. I just wrote an essay about the music to this film, Arnold's score is brilliantly put together, it reflects Bond's change from young and reckless to the classic Bond everyone knows, culminating with the original Bond theme played over the end credits.

  • @electricuncledave actually there's also "When the storm arrives would you be seen with me

By the merciless eyes i've deceived" also tells about how most people(bond girls, cia, fbi and other agency agents or just casual workers) who tend to help bond end up dead when seen with bond by villains bond infiltrated or investigate (deceived or deception by disguise)

the list of casualties is endless

  • @Alxmir23 I don't I quite agree with you there. As I stated I believe the lyrics are told from the view of M; the 'storm' refers to trouble arising with agents; 'would you be seen with me', questions whether they will be affiliated with the MI6 or M, who, having sent someone to investigate them has 'deceived' them. I don't think it relates to people Bond has worked with. Remember, this is chronologically the first Bond story, I believe the lyrics to be prospective rather than retrospective.

  • @electricuncledave Ah,of M's view,not bond

    ok i understand

plus you're right,as of casino royale bond, never lost any allies

  • @electricuncledave what does m stand for i never found that out

  • @admiralwolvrine You don't find out, you are just told that Bond knows.

  • @electricuncledave No. This is Bond talking to his potential lovers IE the Bond girls.

I commend you for your interpretation but I'm afraid it isn't right. Frankly, I'm stunned 17 people voted your comment up. The lyrics of the song very clearly correspond with the story of Bond and Vesper in Casino Royale.

  • @pyranology I'd say bond is talking to a couple of different groups of people. Lovers in the first verse, opponents in the second. Ending the first verse with "...Just next in line" aka "This is how I see you." Ending the second verse with "You may meet your end" aka "I'm to kill you." The overall idea being that he sees women and opponents as games to be played and won, hence the overall poker-game motif. Just my take.

  • @pyranology I'm sorry I can't see where you're coming from. Could you give me some lyrical examples to back this up? I would also like to point out that your theory is very unlikely correct since Chris Cornell wrote these lyrics to "echo the opening several minutes of the film". He also spoke of the subject matter: "committing murder for the first time, and really introducing [Bond's]self to what may be the rest of his life and how he will live it and what it will mean."

  • @electricuncledave It has nothing to do with M. It is Bond speaking to the Bond girls. Not a tough song to figure out... listen to the lyrics. I'm amazed you got so many thumbs up... I guess people don't really read comments; just thumbs up the top comment out of habit.

  • @electricuncledave Interesting perspective, but the lyrics actually remind me more of the exchange Bond has with a SMERSH agent in the original novel, in which Bond is actually given an dressing down and told that he isn't cold, hard or smart enough to protect his country. I'm probably wrong, but I just thought I'd throw that in.

  • @roebuckmckinney I have read the novel though don't particularly recall this section. (It's been a while since I read it). Though this relation would more likely be Fleming-screenwriter-lyricist than Fleming-lyricist, it is an interesting point well made.

  • @electricuncledave what does M stand for?

  • @Iamatheist1234 You don't find out. Bond just lets M know that he knows.

  • @electricuncledave In Casino royale?

  • @Iamatheist1234 Yes, it's during the scene where Bond has broken into M's apartment and he says, 'I thought M was just a randomly assigned letter I had no idea it stood for..' and M cuts in with, 'Utter another syllable and I'll have you killed'.

  • @electricuncledave

without getting too serious about this. The lyrics refer to only one subject. "the coldest blood runs through my veins" can only mean one thing and it isn't M...you know my name. just like the Glimmer Twins knew his name in the mid 60's. They had some sympathy for him, if you recall

  • @needleknows1 Sorry, I don't recall. I don't really understand what you're trying to say. Could you enlighten me?

  • @electricuncledave I don't think M has the coldest blood running though her veins.

  • @SonicFan512345 I beg to differ: "These bastards want your head. And I'm seriously considering feeding you to them."; "Utter another syllable and I will have you killed."

  • While I agree the lyrics are from M's point of view, I always considered the final 2 verses of the chorus as 007's response to what M is saying the entire song. Like this: M: "You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you, it longs to kill you, are you willing to die?", to what Bond responds "The coldest blood runs through my veins, you know my name."

  • @MagiDragon07 The 'coldest blood' line always struck me to come from M due to her lines I posted below (@SonicFan512345), but I think you raise a good point. My only problem with my own explanation above is that according to Chris Cornell the 'You Know My Name' is intended to refer to Bond which doesn't quite fit my theory, as doesn't the idea that the lyrics are an prospective monologue for Bond. I think your addition indeed creates the most coherent explanation of these lyrics.

  • @electricuncledave What does M stand for? lol

  • @mamanettie This question has been asked so many times. You don't find out, Bond says, 'I thought M was a randomly assigned letter, I didn't know it stood for...' to which M interjects, 'Utter another syllable and I'll have you killed.'

  • @electricuncledave oh lol

  • @electricuncledave or when bond starts to say M's real name and she says "utter one more syllable, and I'll have you killed" the lyrics say: "you may need to end"

  • 1:37 That's what Vesper said

  • @LeShowDeJeff I ROR'D

  • As a huge Bond fan (and just giving an opinion) I have to say this is the best Bond opening song ever.

  • @FionnMarr

What about Paul Mc cartney's Live and let die!!

  • @TheStanley1000 It's right up there. And I can here shades of it in You know My Name. Another favorite of mine is Duran Duran and View to a Kill. Trying to pick the best (for me) out of these is like selecting a favorite child. Do I really have to? :)

  • @FionnMarr ah.. that would be "hear". Wow, should proof read a bit better.

  • Best Bond Film Ever. Full stop

  • @FionnMarr wrong its nobody does it better

  • @aultsimb1 There's no "wrong" here. We are voicing opinion not imperical fact. Good choice btw. But not even Carley Simon's best song. Again, opinion.

  • @FionnMarr nonoonon just no. honestly Madonna's the best.

  • @Gokugogeta You realise you just chose the worst Bond song ever right? In my opinion that is. Any song you can play on only one or two keys on a piano is pretty musically light. Not to mention monotonous.

  • This has to be one of the best Bond openings I have ever seen!

    I can't wait for Skyfall!

  • I hope Skyfall goes back to keeping the gun and barrel sequence at the beginning of the film, I didn't like how they put it at the end. I also hope they do it like Casino Royale and find a way to make it a apart of the opening sequence. The way they did it in this film was really clever.

  • @hungree7 gigiddy

  • best bond intro/barrel transition. when -isn't- dench, M?

  • Is Daniel Craig a Brony?

  • @MRresievil310 Get the heck out of here >:(

  • @MRresievil310 I'm thinking, yes.

  • Casino Royale & Quantum are fucking great films and Daniel Craig is bloody gorgeous, cracking sounds tracks to both..... cant wait for Skyfall

  • groovy. do the scenes reflect on any of the past movies?

  • i enjoyed quantum of solace. it's better than any of the roger moore movies

  • @knightofbruma then you dont like james bond films cause roger moore is a living legened . the best bonds go sean . roger , pierce , daniel , dalton and george

  • @freshpbluessoul so I don't really like bond? I have seen just about all the films and am a huge fan. I don't like Moore's style, and that makes me less of a fan?

  • @knightofbruma just about , does that mean you davent seen all of them at least 12 and half times

  • @freshpbluessoul yeah, roger moore was quite good, most of the time he would be playful

always sorta having fun during risky missions but also showed how dangerous he can be when angered and that he can be cold blooded too

(Sandor off the roof, kicking the car,Zorin, stromberg and etc)

  • @Alxmir23 I think Bond was portrayed better by early Sean Connery, Timothy Dalton, and Daniel Craig, personally. I always saw Roger Moore as sort of a fall back James, but at least he's not George Lazenby... that guy... well I just could never see him as Bond; and Pierce Brosnan only ended like Sean when he reached his later years, like Never Say Never Again. (<-- I'm not saying he looked that old or flabby, but still, he wasn't in the best of shape.

  • @Night5FOX roger moore was lucky to have the most fights but got branded as the comic bond

there was more comedy relief in his movies and the villains, gadgets and evil plots were more crazy and unreal or extreme, like Drax trying to eliminate all of humans on his space station

Stromberg almost doing WW3 by nuking Moscow and NY

But my fav is sean thimothy and Craig

they play it more seriously(beside connery which in the long run became almost like roger moore bond(diamonds are forever

  • @Alxmir23 I think that might have been his "downfall" (?) not sure on the choice of word, but yea, I have to agree, he was much more the comedy Bond. I still can't believe they're still making more O.o... Even though Casino Royale was really sort of a remake of the original. I wish they'd remake all the films with Mr. Craig, while using the old Bonds and Bond helpers as main characters within the movies.

  • @Night5FOX even though he was comic,he still showed coldness in his movement

always saying puns even in odd and totally misplaced places

like sandor,he let him fall down and says "what a helpful chap"

Craig rarely says puns but for now,he is the most realistic, not surreal gadgets or crazy world domination/destruction plot

we still wait for "gadgets",and the two plots were

    1:game of cards

    2:water resource control

we are far from drax's total human extermination

  • @Night5FOX in fact, craig did the very same thing(sandor) he did the same with that russian agent but that one was even more cold blooded

he didnt fight with him,he held him at gunpoint and tried to get an answer, before letting him fall

  • i agree number 2 is crap

  • @KISSarmyGuy Quantum of Solace isn't "complete" shit . . . It just doesn't have much meaning and the plot wasn't that connected to Casino Royale. It's nice to watch :)

  • I had a migraine when I saw this......but it is still one of my favourite bond movie.

  • I remember when I saw this in the theatre, the very second that he shot the camera people were cheering!

  • chris cornell has an amazing voice

  • 11 people went all in against bond

  • if i had a theme song this would be it

  • after countless hours and random posts... i have finnally found the core to the problem mister black.. and it looks like i took out your *shoots him with a silenced p99* little acta. *picks up a gun and shoots acta like in the intro* *intro starts*

  • Daniel Craig was a ninja for a second there :P

  • This James Bond song is really awesome! I find that Casino Royale the movie is the best Bond movie so far. Daniel Craig is the best! Smiles and Hugs :) :) :)

    Hehe

  • best opening James Bond song

  • This song Rocks!

  • 110 people were born every 8 seconds, o ya every 8 seconds a mentally handicapped person is born

  • Its about time Bond movies had an opening theme without a billion naked women

  • @CabbageUnicorns i like the billion naked ladies

  • @CabbageUnicorns i follow ya.

  • Very, very impressive intro. Always raises my hair.

  • CR was great, QOS was awful .

  • Best Bond Daniel Craig.

  • Don Draper modeled for the guy in black and white

  • Fractals Rule! way to go Benoit!

  • Apparently Adele is doing something for Skyfall, I think that will be Brilliant!

  • @x0xave,i agree with you,adele have a very good voice,if she accept,will be a very good music

  • Fuck Quantum of Solace. That movie sucked. Casino Royale was such an exceptional film.

  • @burninator14 I agree. Love this one but QOS is utter shit!

  • @burninator14 YES Casino Royale was one of the best.

  • @burninator14 True, the first time I watched QOS, I thought it was a let-down because of the convoluted plot and the big focus on action

  • This song was the only thing I didn't like about Casino Royale when I first saw it, now I think it's brilliant and definitely one of the best Bond themes and the graphics are outstanding. For me Connery was always the best Bond, now he's second best to Craig and Casino Royale is the best Bond film. Critics of Quantum of Solace should watch it again - I did and liked it a lot more second time. It has some brilliant touches and it's only fault is that it is too short for a Bond movie.

  • @torquemadagb Yeah the first time I saw QoS I thought it was crap but when I later watched it again I enjoyed it a lot more. I still think it was a disappointment coming from CR which was such an excellent film in general, Bond film aside, but people act like it's as bad as TWINE or DAD. THOSE were crap Bond films, especially DAD.

  • @anakinjmt

Why does everyone hate TWINE, sure Denise Richards' performance or lack thereof was awful but she was the film's only flaw, it had a coherent and plausible plot, tons of action, and one of the best villains in the series (SPOILER: Elektra King, beautiful, strong-willed, independent and totally psychopathic)

  • @redcommander27 It seemed too often in TWINE that the plot was there to serve as a setpiece for the action sequences, which were cool but the action should serve the plot, not vice versa. Plus they introduced characters in the beginning only to very quickly kill them off. The woman on the balloon was there only to get killed and give a "vague" reference to Renard. Watch Goldeneye and then TWINE and notice the drop in quality overall.

  • This song if extremely addictive for some reason!!!!

  • Chris Cornell 00 Status Confirmed!

  • Roger Moore was the best James Bond.

  • *COMMENT REMOVED BY SOPA*

  • @Bacherlaug sopa has been shelved. try to keep up with the news attention whore.

  • IMO! Craig's character is awesome, but he don't have the elegant and refined style of a Bond, he's great but not a straight James Bond. (Casino Royale is one of my faves, so don't misinterpret me)

  • @SirLinkoln Craig's version of Bond is much more darker, grittier and cold hearted. Almost sociopathic. I like that about Craig's version of Bond, but I would like it if we could see him be more suave. Perhaps Skyfall will give us the best of both worlds? I mean, the producer of Skyfall says Craig does a fantastic job in this one that he would want Craig to sign on for 5 more Bond movies. The guy is awesome, but I would also like to see a new Bond in the near future. Perhaps Michael Fassbender?

  • LOVE this film. Its the one that got me into the Bond series.

Too bad Quantum of Solace is complete shit. Skyfall will be better.

  • @KISSarmyGuy Quantum of Solace is not that bad. It's better than all of Brosnan's films except maybe Goldeneye.

  • @KISSarmyGuy. Hope SKYFALL had used Brosnan's gunbarrel and soundtrack gunbarrel from Tommorow Never Dies.

  • @KISSarmyGuy quanum wasnt that bad. I thought so, too untill i discussed the plot with my brother. the more I viewed it, the more i liked it. Give it a try once more.

  • @rvbgrifrules Acually I like it the first time around. Upon the second viewing I found nothing I enjoyed.

  • @KISSarmyGuy I hope so

  • @KISSarmyGuy SCUM!

  • @MFAtlas Quantum of Solace is scum, I agree.

  • @KISSarmyGuy Yeah man I hope so.

  • I think Daniel Craig brought a more gritty and macho character as he played James Bond. Pierce Brosnan was more of a charming, swift, elegant type. I absolutely love both of them as Bond, and I think Daniel Craig did a surprisingly magnifcently yet unique twist in his role.

As seen in Quantum of Solace he is much more serious, and less of a sly attitude, more like a 'dont fuck with me attitude' which is very different than Pierce Brosnan, but once again LOVED BOTH OF THEM. Cant wait for #23!

  • Three Better Bond: Pierce Brosnan , Sean Connery, Daniel Craig.,,,

  • There's only one reason why Daniel Craig is the best (yes even better than Sean Connery IMO) James Bond: INTENSITY

  • This actually suppose to be Bond's first movie 'cause he was given the 00 status in this movie.

  • No better start to a Bond film ever. They nailed the trailer, the actor, the opening sequence. QOS was rubbish but this was a REAL Bond film. He is dangerous, good looking, adaptable, lethal and intelligent. Perfect SIS officer.

  • what martial art was that 1:26

  • Bond: Do you expect me to talk?

Golgfinger: No Mr.Bond I expect you to die!

  • @CompleatNonsense Golgfinger??

  • Roger moore , Pierce brosnan and sean connery is my favorites but then again i havent seen the new movies yet

  • This is the best Bond ever. Period. An A-1 film. Perfect.

  • @joseoscarortiz It's very rare that I see any movie more than once in the theatre, but I think I saw this one 3x!!! Going to upgrade my DVD to the Blu-Ray soon too.

  • And what a Bond theme as well!!

  • Classiest Bond film ever. What a film!

  • @rectortheo 1 fair play 2 its not the suit its the charm that he hasent got 3 sorry dislecsia i hat to google a lot of stuff and lastly that minor detail builds up to one big problem.

  • @charlieiscool1000 What? Ian Flaming portrayed bond as a tall, dark, hansom, charming gentalmen craig looks like he has been draged through a thorn bush arse first.

  • @CompleatNonsense One, this is bond when he starts, so he isn't all super amazing yet. two Daniel Craig, is handsome and can pull off the suit and bow tie and still be a bad-ass 3 spell gentleman correctly when you are dissing one. oh and actually read the fucking books before u say how bond is portrayed.true he doesn't have dark hair, but minor detail

  • I still prefer Roger Moore.

  • 1:37 that's what Vesper said.

  • @mystmoorth LOOOL

    Very, very good Sir.:D

  • @mystmoorth LMAO brilliant

  • @mystmoorth niceee

  • Amazing opening, and risky but PERFECT choice of performer ! Chris Cornell's voice definitely adds depth to the song

  • can't go wrong with Chris Cornell... amazing voice, very versatile... & of course, if you know good music, "you know his name"

  • Best Bond movie opening ever. Best song, colorful and creative graphics, everything's matching, it takes your attention, is just the best.

  • by far the best bond movie in recent years and an absolutely epic soundtrack, more of the same please

  • I do know your name Mr Bond and this was one of the best films I have ever seen ! Thank you so much Mr Bond :)
