Mr. Rogers was a decorated war hero in Vietnam. He had like 23 or some kills! The reason he always wears sweaters is cover-up all his tatoos. GOOGLE IT!
this is obviously a bygone era in Americana and if you weren't alive then you're unlikely to get what was standard behavior then and why. To me 1986 was the last great year of a conservative America, socially. It began to erode after that. I long for that spirit now missing.
For anyone wanting to fix the world's faults, just recall his teachings & learn from them. It's a rare person who truly understands such messages these days, it would seem. But really, for all the world's faults, I believe people are inherently good, so the lesson of Mr. Rogers will never be lost, in my opinion. If anyone followed the second greatest command (Love Thy Neighor) as a TV star, it was Mister Fred Rogers.
Can't believe it's been 9 years since he died! I can still remember watching him as a kid with my dad. We both love him. They need more shows like Mr. Rogers now days, instead of some of the junk they put on now! R.I.P. Mr. Roger, an amazing man who the world will never find one like him ever again! ♥
i loved his show i never got it cuz i was like 5 or something but i loved the cat and the train i never got the show but i just loved the imagination place
We didn't have cable TV when I was growing up; we didn't get "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood". I watched samples of his show later as an adult just for the fun of it, and the best part I liked was when he sang the song "I Like To Be Told", especially when he'd talk about what to expect when going to the doctor / dentist or whatever. It felt like my soul was getting nourished.
Hey, I originally uploaded this exact video a couple of years ago (as evidence of the audio gap in the beginning), but it was taken down for copyright reasons. Weird that someone copied it and reuploaded it.
Oh the influence this man had (and still has). If you have not aleady done so, watch how he silences the elite of Hollywood in his acceptance speech of the Life-Time Achievemnet Award (youtube.com/watch?v=Upm9LnuCBUM&feature=related). Then watch him has his way in a Congressional hearing (youtube.com/watch?v=yXEuEUQIP3Q). His speech "What do you do with the mad that you feel...." is pure epic
@lsadfhas3245 Mr. Rogers wasn't a sharpshooter in 'Nam, he was already on TV during 'Nam disproving this urban legend. He was born in 1928 making him already over 30 when the Vietnam War started in 60's (his show started in the 50's) and almost 50 when the war totally ended in 1975.
I love Mr Rogers, im 20, n i cant remember how old i was i think 4 or 5 when i watched him, but i remember the good feelings i had when i watched the Mr Rogers show..
I love my parents more than anything, but can you imagine what an amazing experience it must have been having Fred Rogers as a parent? He was such a kind, decent, and wonderful person. I had the chance to meet him on an elevator years ago and I was in awe. A remarkable human being. Love you, Mr. Rogers. :*)
I adored Fred Rogers. He loved and respected children, and all people. HIs cadence and intelligence, his calm, kind demeanor, his comforting way of talking, rooted in his deep humanity, were so rare. Wish we had another like him.
he was a great guy and all, but he's soooooo... chill. does ANYONE else find his demeanor just the least bit... odd? just hearing him talks makes my heart rate drop a bit
I know Mr. Rogers as MILLIONS do but who is cahkachaka1...are they on the faculty at Harvard or Yale an author or a doctor ,chemist ........who is this obscure thing
Although I loved his show, I know for a FACT that Fred Rogers was a closet homosexual. My grandfather told me late in life that he had personal sexual experiences with him while they were in boot camp...crazy shit...
I've never heard that before. If you're right then Mr Rogers will need to repent. But, if you are lying then you will need to repent for lying and being a false witness.
My apologies for being vague on my initial response.
To "cahkachaka1";
Hear-say from your grandfather does not constitute "fact". If you do a little bit of simple research you will find that Fred Rogers was historically devoted to his wife and his faith.
Yeah, too bad that that's complete bullshit. Fred Rogers was never in the military to begin with. Why insult a man that was one of the most positive influences in America up until the day he died?
chakachaka1, I know this response is 6 months late, but I'm sorry. I can't sit by and let anyone read the horrible things you wrote. You're falsely slandering one of the greatest men who has ever lived. People who see Mr. Rogers and can't possibly understand a man full of peace, joy, and real love for everyone on earth are always trying to find some sick way to say he's just as bad as them... but the truth will always prevail. Funny thing is, he would hear your insults and love you anyway.
@chakachaka1: Please. Mr. Rogers wouldn't mind what orientation you are, because everyone is special (i.e. everyone is unique, all should be loved, and we ought to strive to realize that each of us has something to offer) in their own way.
i remember watching him every day when i was little with my grandfather... if every kid watched his show the world would be a better place, in fact his show wasnt even just for the kid inside everyone
i dont know if there will ever be another people like him but i hope there will be because kids need someone like him...
one more honest adult in the world... i wish there were more honest adults in the world :(
Thanks for posting this. Mr. Rogers wasn't just a guy who talked to kids; he was truly one who was REAL with people of any age. Read the book: I'm Proud of You by Tim Madigan. He met adult's needs too. We need more Mr. Rogers today!
Mr Rogers had amazing insight into how children perceived the world around them.
However, its seems that no matter how long we live there's a bit of the young child still in us.
His comments about death also apply to all of us so called "adults." No one wants to be left behind with no one to care for them.
