  • Nice... looked a bit like a tin lunch box

  • that thing looks like a face!

  • Nice Video, That recorder was made in 1955 and is very small for the year.. It comes with it's own separate speaker and mic as a kit all in a leather box..

  • is that pinch roller made of cork? it looks like it.

  • @thereelmaster Just a different color rubber. (and seems to be good quality rubber)

  • bah this thing looks like rubbish, no offense but it looks worse than 8 track, i love small reel to reel but this thing is cheap, the 1958 sound tape cartridge is much more epic

  • DUCK

  • AHHHHHH ITS GOING TO EAT ME

  • Wonderful machine..I have one,but unoperable. The construction is very cheap, without screws.I will post in the future, another Phonotrix, bigger but with same mechanics and speaker inside.I will post photoes too.

    Congratulations!

  • wasnt this the "father" of the compact cassette? such small reels?

  • These things are very popular on E-Bay, but a more upgraded model. The one you have appears to be very early. Pity it is in such bad condition and has such a poor quality amplifier. Still, it was nice to see it. Thanks!

  • what year?

  • I guess the late 50s to early 60s. Probably early 60s.

  • That is a very neat little reel-to-reel! Build quality is superb, even if the recording quality isn't. I think you might be able to persuade more out of it after a little work.

  • It does look like a duck lol, that would make an awesome avatar.

  • ohh man amazing it works with all that corrosion!

  • That's a nice little machine. I'm sure for the time it was made in this was a really small reel-to-reel.

Very interesting little machine! Too bad it doesn't sound that good.

  • That RCA cartridge recorder eats Phono Trix for breakfast! :D

  • lmao

  • Cool recorder!

  • Too Cool!

    Phono Trix!

    Awesome!

    Thanks for the video!

    Brent

  • Very awesome machine!

  • That's a very cool machine!! Nice find!

  • I cant remember the last time I saw a reel tape machine. So cool thxs for showing.

  • Wow that is really cool. Never saw one of those before, nice little recorder. It is interesting looking and you are right it does kind-of-look like a duck. Very nice collectable.

  • Want any repro Pertrix covers? I have that design!

  • Must have had a batch of zinc-carbon batteries in it, judging from the rust!

  • I hear an idler with a flat spot! Looks to be late 1950s vintage.

  • I tried a bit of Performix tool PlastiDip on the idler wheel of my RCA 45 player, and it is pretty durable stuff. It may fill in that notch. Home Depot sells it here for about 6$/can. I also get good deals on bulk RayoVac and Energiser batteries at Depot, even cheaper than Sam's Club.

  • Pretty cool, but I must say that's just about the most confusing tape rcorder I've seen. When the tape was playing I thought it was on rewind as it looks like it's going backwards although it's actually not. It's a little sad how the previous owners didn't take better care of it.

  • Whoa that's a cool little tape recorder!

  • Thats a pretty sick machine bro and its got a motor speed knob

It sounds almost like a school loudspeaker even with out the external speaker
