@sthugh Well I had the original 1973 tapes in it which still sound great, but due to other problems (worn out pinch rollers etc.) these got stuck and ripped apart several times. John Bradley at Streetly serviced the machine and did a great job! I had to get new tapes installed though...not because the tapes sounded bad, but too many of them had been broken.
Well, only one of them is mine. I borowed the other (left) one because my machine was "eating the tapes" every now and then. The frame heard here is with the M400 violin sound (which is actually the MK II sound re-recorded with a different EQ). About half a year ago my machine is fully restored by the guys from Streetly and play superd again (even better than it has ever played before I think) and I now have a new tape frame withe the MK II violin sound.
Nice job! Your Trons sound like they're well maintained. What frames do you have? Is the violin sound the M400 or the MkII? Sounds like the M400 to me.
I see you have an Arp (Solina?) String Ensemble as well. I sold my M400 for that back in 1976. Much more portable and no eight second limit. It never really replaced the 'tron for me. Nothing can match that sound.
Man, I love what you did here!

How long do the tapes last in these things before you have to change them?
