you should have yourself a locator collar and a camping shovel. ya dont wanna loose your dog if its to deep and the hole collapes. looks like hes having fun!
My dog does the same thing in our back yard- our whole yard looks like this now- we have gophers and I can't put out any traps or certainly any kind of poisons because of our JRT.... too dangerous for his sake. I don't know how to get rid of them, id like to have a yard for my 5 year old to play in without twisting her ankle, yet our JRT has a blast and brings in "gifts" now and then! What a joy! Yuck... LOL! LOve your JRT- too cute. Thanks for sharing <3

Funny , rabies - i know It's in the dogs nature and they love that kind of stuff - I have a jack also I would just hate to see my dog get hurt - I'm also on a farm- she love going in holes
My JRT looks almost exactly like yours does with the black markings, long legs, spot on his behind... He just turned eight, so he's turning a bit gray but still loves to hunt!
@Fongolitus The dog is a nice worker. He's determined. If you send him down holes it's best if he wears a locating collar(take off his regular collar). If you need to dig him out you will know exactly where he is and how far down. Some groundhog holes can be 30 ft. Also there is a program called T.R.A.P.P.E.D., if your dog ever disappears down a hole and you cant get them out there are volunteers to help. go to trappeddog-dot-com
Yes he dug most of it. It was just an gopher entry hole when he started digging. He wore himself out and never did get the gopher. I think sometimes it's just the scent that attracts him not live gopher. This is my second JRT and this is what they both love more than anything....well except for food.
i have 2 jack russels 1 is a shorty and named peanut and another named ginger they are bad cuzz they digg upp everything and eat everything you can think off!!!! but right after i give them a bath after they get dirty they roll right back into the mudd
my jack doesn't hunt like this! i wish she would, but she gives up as soon as its out of reach. she will watch squirrels in our yard, and be really still, and wait to run at it, but then she doesn't get close enough so the squirrel always gets away because she starts running from too far away. and as soon as its in the tree she gives up! silly silly
i got a lab. when i find fresh gopher holes in my ditches or see them around... i fill up a couple 5-gallon pales with water and flush them out. when they come up my dog gets em
Reminds me of my Jack Russell POPPSY they are clever dogs no dought ,and such cheeky little charactersand very loyal,.But please what does a wheaton look like ive never heard. of it.
Treat them right with attention and hunting activities, they will reward you for it in and out of the house. Being pc glad mine cant climb but certainly will dig.
Absolutely no behaviour probs, maybe i understand his needs and supply, not bad as a first timer.
Yes Spankey I do in fact have 3 JRTs. Terriers have been a part of my family since I can remember. You are right they are the best little dogs. However shouldn't be someones first dog. As a "claimed" Jack Russell lover maybe you should know better than to lead a novice into the world of JRTs, Offen these dogs are abandoned by people with good intentions. If this person really wants a Terrier maybe he should start with a Wheaten.
How much do you really know about terriers as a whole? Wheaton terriers are one of the toughest of all terriers, way beyond the capabilities of a jrt.
Yes Frenchy my family has bred Jack Russells for over 35 years. I would say a first terrier should be a Wheaten or maybe a Yorkie. Yes and we have had Wheatens too
I agree I had two rat terriers and a Lab before I got my first Jack still have the two Rat Terriers great first terrier or 2nd or third love my Jack but she is a lot of dog too much for a beginner
I have a Jack that is also named Ozzie. He's a Texas Bear Creek Russell (shortie) with almost the exact same markings as your dog. He is definitely a ratter. Amazing dog and Good markings. Why would anyone let the dog they love go after something that can hurt the dog or have rabbi's

@Lenaandron rabbi's huh? so jewish people are more dangerous to JRT's than diseases? XD

yep JRTs are the best dogs ever. just that most owners are too impatient and sissy so they just want a lap dog.
my JRT is one of the smartest dogs i know so i hate it when people say they are the worst dogs ever when they havent even owned one.
my eats spakrs and isnt afraid of any other dog... just the hose. haha.

Indd. when we got our jack russel ( male)
he was very playfull, kinda scared to go outside.
Now it's a 2 yr old hunter, with 5 rabbit kills and he trashes mice nest's.
It's hard to explain to people why I let my dog attack and kill a rabbit.
Well, the dog runs away from me after he grabbed his prey.
Taking it somewhere quite.
jack russels tend to do what they like, there proud little doggies.
They swim, they run like crazy, they are never afraid, nomather how big the dog is.

The guy who made this video should't let him play in holes..
I also have a jackrussel, and mine got stuck in the ground once when chasing a rabbit.
It's fun at first, but the dog can suffocate when he gets stuck so watch out with that.
Also haha jack russels are the best dogs, there so small but still they have no fear for larger dogs and they feel big.
You must love there attitude haha!
