the reason doing"soft kicks"? is cuz it gets the piston to the top of the cylindar closer to the spark plug making it much easier to start. and its not only 2 strokes u do it with, its even more common doing it with 4 stokes...i do it in the walk around of my bike. watch it. much better :p
How did you get it registerd and insured? Dont the titles for cr's say "NOT FOR ROAD USE" on them? Fill me in on how you got it legal for the street in NY, im from MA so it cant be that much different. I built a 406 and got it reg and insured in MA but the title didnt say not for road use on it. Everyone thinks just cuz it's a big motor they think it needs special treatment this motor is no different then your 80 125 and 250 PV is about the only difference.. So get fuel to the carb turn the bike over once or twice the. Kick it it will start right up and be primed sitting there turning over the motor slow does not prime it it dry cycles the motor. Stop being stupid with the 500s just fuckin start it

@djfaber22 Well, mine was an '85. And it's been about 19 years since I had it. But, if I remember correctly. It was, hold the kill switch/button, open the throttle some, kick it several times while holding the kill button, get kick starter positioned so there is resistance against the kick at the highest possible point so you get as much out of it as possible, then kick hard and follow all the way through the kick. Should start every time. Almost a ritual, especially when it was cold.
@MrDarinWarren same here man. i let one friend ride this bike, who has been a skilled rider for 20 years but never owned a 500, try to start it. i tried explaining it to him but he wanted to be a know-it-all and flooded the bike. after 20 minutes or so i showed him how to start it and he just laughed when it fired first kick for me. :D
@fartnocker5000 ever tried starting a 500cc 2 stroke? He is getting it to the sweetspot in the stroke, getting a little oil on the cylinder, releasing some compression and trying to keep from breaking his foot
@qshooter151 does it have to be driven like a 2 stroke or can you just "put" around? like a 2 stroke dirtbike u have to hit the the power band to avoid carbon build up

@TylerRIdesBikes247 that's how you start a 2 stroke big bore. prime cyl, find tdc, let er have it. although typically you don't need as many slow kicks as i did to prime the cylinder. i wasn't counting and wanted to be sure it started cuz i was filming. ;)

hey just a quick question, why wouldnt you run fmf with fmf or pro circuit with pro circuit? why did you do fmf with pro circuit? wouldnt it be better to use the same?
@dkcharger08 when i bought the bike it had an fmf silencer on it and i liked the sound so i replaced it with the same. the pro circuit pipe offers better top end power and since i was riding this on the road i decided to go with that pipe. would a pro circuit silencer have been better? i dunno. some people think it's retarded to have a mixed exhaust combo. i don't really care...lol. :D
