  • Jonathan Winters is a comic genius!

  • I love this video, what a fantastic comedian, he had the gift. I loved Johnny's reaction when he saw Winters in overalls. I remember the roasts and they were hilarious.

  • nice

  • I love these old comedians. No profanity, just pure genius comedy

  • I have never been fully sure if Winters was a mad genius, or truly really did have a screw loose. Irregardless, he is one of the funniest people that have ever lived.

  • Hahahahaha!

  • The golden age of TV is way behind us,the crap today sucks, but thanks to You Tube, we don't have to watch it!!!!!

  • Barry Goldwater???

  • These shows involved the funniest men in history, may those who have gone RIP.

  • He took a squirrel and dyed it white!! LOL!!!!

  • The fact that you made 2 wives disappear. LOL These were the founders of comedy genius.

  • Loved it!

  • Most of the time Winters would come up with an idea and just run with it. He didn't work out lines beforehand,he completely improvised. Sure,he had the idea of the character of being some kind of dim redneck but that was about it. Johnny Carson would have the greatest guy to have a beer with. He really let others speak on his show, you didn't get him talking a lot. I would have loved to hear what HE had to say.Jonathan Winters, though. The weirdest & most creative comedian EVER! He still Lives!

  • @soundvisionary13 Fun fact...he was Robin Williams idol & inspiration for his style.

  • Johnny's laugh was/is probably the most infectious laugh I've ever heard.

  • I liked when Johnny said to Barry Goldwater "He's the only republican tonight who's out on bail" and "I thank you Senator, and you were even funnier tonight then you wre when you ran against Johnson" lmfao.

  • there isn't anybody like these guys anymore.

too bad. this is great stuff not a single swear word, or grabbing crotch.

  • jonathan winters, is the funniest person that was ever born..

  • Dean Martin had some of the funniest people on his shows! Johathan Winters was always so great to watch, you just never knew what he was going to say!

  • Johnathan Winters is one of the funniest people that was ever born.

  • this has todays comedy beat by a longshot

  • I can see Jonathan Winters saying, if he hadn't said it already (I just watched the first two minutes and fifteen seconds of this), "The last trick he ever performed as a magician was at his high school graduation ceremony in 1943. He wanted to make something disappear and that was the last we saw of him."

  • that barry goldwater is a good sport

  • great moustache, jonathan...woof!

  • Was Barry GOldwater there at 1 30ish

  • @jimmbo13 Yup. That was Goldwater.

  • @jimmbo13 yes

  • It's no small feat to come up with two distinctly different "hoopy" characters who are individually not generic...

Willis Mumford and Elwood P. Suggins are entirely different people, and Winters is (duh!) a genius.

(And Carson's character, "Floyd Turbo," owes them both.)

  • Classic!!!!

  • I love how Johnny started laughing even before Jonathan Winters said a word! :)

  • love them all best cure if there is any enjoy

  • that famous Johnny Carson laugh

  • How do you not like Jonathan Winters?Cause he's funny enough to not swear!

  • I love the fact that Carson cracks up before Jon's first word

  • @sirwob Johnny was one of JW's biggest fans. Yup, he just looked at "Willis Mumford" and cracked up! Dean Martin was probably the other greatest fan; he worked with Jonathan a lot, but even he would crack up in the middle of a routine with the great improv artist, Jonathan Winters. It was always fun to watch The Dean Martin Show when JW was on because you knew there would be a contest to see who could throw the other guy a wild adlib that would break him up. Jonathan Winters usually won.

  • Don Rickles has always been good at JW's style of comedy too.

  • Great humor without a lot of obscenity....It's called talent, not like today !

  • @nedarc hit the nail on the head there buddy!

  • One of the true legends of comedy.

You can really see how Jon effected Robin Williams comedy.

  • Yeesserie bob he dar hails fro albertie pipelinie

  • Yes Bary was there. Yes there will never be comedy like this again

  • Was that Barry goldwater at 1 30?

  • I love this era of roasting. It was witty, not like today where b-rate comedians talk about each others' genitalia like they're in jr. high.

  • @jawsrock1 it's because comedians from back then had REAL talent

  • Hilarious. Winters is one of my all time faves. What a great talent he is.

  • Brings back such memories ! Thank you for taking the time to post this.

  • Johnny cracked up before Jonathan said a word! He just looked at "Willis Mumford" and started to laugh.

  • @son8of8vazkor Mr. Winters is still alive!

  • @Kalooookalay Jonathan WInters is retired now. By the strangest coincidence, Elwood P. Suggins and Maudie Frickert however, have gone missing. And they are VERY much missed, believe me.

Thanks for the wonderful, inventive laughs, Jonathan!

  • They just don't make 'em today like they used to.Thanks to You Tube for having all these wonderful actors and comedians to look back on.

    True talent.

Not a foul word spoken during their routines.

  • just the best!

  • Johnny just adored Jonathan Winters and you can see it in his eyes , I am drinking a Heineken right now and watching this . To you Johnny , You are the greatest .

  • I so agree the respect and affection that Johnny had tor Jonathan. And for each other. When Jonathan came out and he touched Johnny's cheeks, you could see the admiration. I'm not having a Heineken but a Milwaukee's Best and. We will never see talent like this again. Bob

  • "People'd go 'That's a white squirrel!'"

    Simply hilarious.

He was a fine actor, as well as comedian. You can tell just by watching his comedy bits. The characters he assumes are so varied and so well performed. He is one of my favorite performers ever.

  • Johnny was just loving this. You could tell that he was giddy to have Winters do this.

  • I love this guy! Damn he's funny.

  • A real deal comedian!...Pure class and talent.

  • HE KILLS ME IM DYIN

  • That good ole Willis Mumford, he's a caution ain't he!

  • Outstanding! Thanks for posting! I loved the line but the fact you made 2 wives disappear was hilarious!

  • @styx4ever1963 What about the reference Johnny said about Redd Foxx "His ancestors originated the idea of roasting people"
