It´s not King Curtis that played with Jimmi Hendrix. It´s Jimmi Hendrix that played with King Curtis ( who didn´t appreciate so much Hendrix work as a sideman ).
This was originally a Seals & Crofts song, but I love King Curtis' version of it. On the LP they go into an incredible jam at the end of the tune. Jerald Jermott is a baddass.
about the description, I thought Albert King and Ray Charles were also really big parts of the Altlantic sound, and I always thought Booker T and the MGs were big aspects of the black part of the Atlantic sound.
Ya know what sends me back to the woodshed is not just that he plays it perfectly but how easily he does it. Jerry is a very special musician and gentleman.
King Curtis did an absolutely gorgeous cover of Procul Harum's "Whiter Shade of Pale" which appeared on the soundtrack of the film "Withnail & I" (it's over the credits and opening shot)... is there any video of him doing this song? It's just such a beautiful version.
@McGarVision actully King Curtis did work with Jimi Hendrix i have a picture proving this of King Curtis playing a show with Percy Sledge and Jimi Hendrix.
@McGarVision Truth be told, Hendrix played with both men! I have recordings of Jimi with King Curtis on an LP set of James Marshall Hendrix's roots : " In between performing with Curtis Knight in 1966, Hendrix toured and recorded with King Curtis. Hendrix recorded the two-part single "Help Me (Get the Feeling)" with Ray Sharpe and the King Curtis Orchestra (1966 Atco 45-6402) (the backing track was subsequently overdubbed by other vocalists with different lyrics and released as new songs."
@McGarVision Hendrix played with King Curtis in 1966. Google "king curtis jimi hendrix" for the proof. There is a picture of them with Cornell Dupree. Why would you make a statement like that if you're not sure?
You just cannot find concerts like this. So much energy from one song to the next. King Curtis allowed everyone in his band to showcase their talents. Few saxophone artist allow this. King Curtis = sheer genius.
Suddenly I hear that jaco was very influenced by this style jerry jemmott is playing, what a great early bassplayer
