  • Suddenly I hear that jaco was very influenced by this style jerry jemmott is playing, what a great early bassplayer

  • great jam!

  • They are fantastic musicians, one by one ! That's why it is so hot -

  • this is dope

  • It´s not King Curtis that played with Jimmi Hendrix. It´s Jimmi Hendrix that played with King Curtis ( who didn´t appreciate so much Hendrix work as a sideman ).

  • This was originally a Seals & Crofts song, but I love King Curtis' version of it. On the LP they go into an incredible jam at the end of the tune. Jerald Jermott is a baddass.

  • about the description, I thought Albert King and Ray Charles were also really big parts of the Altlantic sound, and I always thought Booker T and the MGs were big aspects of the black part of the Atlantic sound.

  • Hang on a minute, King Curtis DID play with Hendrix, however briefly.

  • i'm diggin the J bass

  • Beautiful and complex.

  • @315AW What's so complex? It's based on one chord.

  • Hi Subhuman 80

The rhythmic interaction between the players is complex,

their ability to communicate is beautiful.

I stand by it Beautiful and Complex.

    Peace

  • @alwatsky - You described it perfectly

  • Man!

Jerry Jemmott is the greatest at funk and i really love his Jazz bass in this video

    Great song aswell

  • Jerry Jemmott is from now on my favorit bass player. Just perfect. Beutiful bassline.

  • Jerry Jermont is bass boss.

  • WOW, Jerry Jemmott & Cornell Dupree!!!

  • Dream Team !!!

  • I might add that Donny Hathaway was part of that "inner circle" at Atlantic , as well...

  • Jerry Jemmott on the bass... isn't he fantastic ?

  • I agree, Jerry Jemmott shines here, gorgeous basslines, perfect rythym, and just watch the guy move for god's sake!

  • Ya know what sends me back to the woodshed is not just that he plays it perfectly but how easily he does it. Jerry is a very special musician and gentleman.

  • @pedroV2003 What are you doing in the woodshed?

  • RAY CHARLES RECORDED THIS

  • no video of that song exists

  • King Curtis did an absolutely gorgeous cover of Procul Harum's "Whiter Shade of Pale" which appeared on the soundtrack of the film "Withnail & I" (it's over the credits and opening shot)... is there any video of him doing this song? It's just such a beautiful version.

  • Also Whiter Shade by The Gadd Gang, a great version to put up against this....

  • you don't know what you are talking about. Jimi Hendrix played with Curtis Knight, NOT King Curtis--EVER

  • @McGarVision actully King Curtis did work with Jimi Hendrix i have a picture proving this of King Curtis playing a show with Percy Sledge and Jimi Hendrix.

  • @McGarVision Truth be told, Hendrix played with both men! I have recordings of Jimi with King Curtis on an LP set of James Marshall Hendrix's roots : " In between performing with Curtis Knight in 1966, Hendrix toured and recorded with King Curtis. Hendrix recorded the two-part single "Help Me (Get the Feeling)" with Ray Sharpe and the King Curtis Orchestra (1966 Atco 45-6402) (the backing track was subsequently overdubbed by other vocalists with different lyrics and released as new songs."

  • @McGarVision Hendrix played with King Curtis in 1966. Google "king curtis jimi hendrix" for the proof. There is a picture of them with Cornell Dupree. Why would you make a statement like that if you're not sure?

  • @nickyfzr My mistake. Google "premier guitar king curtis jimi hendrix" for the picture.

  • @McGarVision

Sorry Vision but you are wrong Hendrix did play for King Curtis in 1964. Recheck your facts.

  • jimi hendrix played with them in 1966, actualy it was kurtis, cornell dupree, bernard pretty purdie , ray lucas, chuck rainey

  • Great song.

  • You just cannot find concerts like this. So much energy from one song to the next. King Curtis allowed everyone in his band to showcase their talents. Few saxophone artist allow this. King Curtis = sheer genius.

  • Yes Purdie and Jemmott the best also he was Jacos hero, Note the bass sans scratchplate and "come on come over" bass line.

  • check the version out by "three dog night" this song was written by"seals and crofts"

  • And Jemmott is the best bassist on the planet.

  • No argument from me brother. 5 stars is way short of what these guys deserve.

  • Bernard Purdie is the best drummer on the planet!

  • Quality

  • 1971
