I really hope people do their own research before choosing to go veg based on this one sided video...
One thing that really bothered me was all the dog owners... where do you think your dogs food comes from, and if you go veg, you're still supporting factory farming by buying dog food. Its extremely unfair to a dog to force it to eat vegetarian, although its available, its meant for dogs with allergies. Please please do not feed your dogs only veg!
@snowbunnylicious what makes you say there are no alternatives to factory farm-manufactured dog food? it takes a bit more work upon the owners' part, but it sure beats being part of such a hideously flawed system.
@91591591 Yes I totally agree that it will take more effort to properly suffice a dog's diet- but I just meant that my impression of the video was that all these people were just blindly jumping onto the bandwagon (though it was just a snipit video so who knows how many people forgot about the entire thing and had McDonald's the next day). Dogs need meat in their diet however, and so for someone to just make their dog 'go veg' for the sake of them going veg, is unfair. There are alternatives.
@snowbunnylicious dogs need PROTEIN in their diet - meat being just one of a vast variety of sources. i've recently read of a dog who lived to be 27 on a vegetarian diet! beans, whole grains, pasta.. dogs love to eat that stuff. i suppose the pleasure exists mostly in having it served to them by someone they trust and cherish having in their lives.
the point of this campaign is to raise awareness that all animals should be treated equally: with radiant adoration.
I have nothing against people that eat meat but I am totally against factory farming and that is why im vegetarian. No animal deserves to be treated so awfully before it is then killed. We MUST go back to family owned farms and the only way to do that is to lower the demand for meat.
an excellent book revealing the hellish effects of factory farming is David Kirby's "Animal Factory." it was in those pages where i learned to become more selective in which meats i purchase- eventually choosing, as you, to become vegetarian. well, semivegetarian: i still bite my fingernails and sometimes suck the mysterious pus from the cyst on my right pinky.. which was probably given birth to by the growth hormones of yesterday's mad meat-fixes.
Oscar Wilde said, "Consistency is a crutch for the uninspired." Hence I will eat one and have a pet of the other happily. That and the simple - some animals don't taste good.
@jb03hf Wilde also said "A man who does not think for himself does not think at all." So by living your life according to his quote, you are no man. How ironic.
It really bothers me how this doesn't mention the environmental damage caused by livestock. 20% GLOBAL C02 emissions should be pretty fuckking important to say.
@TheLucas077 I guess it wouldn't matter then if a cow or a pig, "begged" you for his life. You'd laugh at him and joke, I'll taste you at dinner. I guess there on those people living among us who will not evolve to a higher level during their lifetimes on Planet Earth.
Had a friend nearly die from going completely vegan. Eating meat in moderation and not over consuming is what we really need to strive for. I agree the animals need better living conditions but there's nothing wrong with consuming meat. It's part of nature and I would argue it's much more healthy to eat meat moderately than not consuming it at all.
@CMBrash Eating meat in 'moderation' doesn't work to change a thing in an economy based on abundance, and it will still lead to great environmental harm.
@carrots001 Yeah, another man who has a deep-seated hatred of women. You can always tell--they usually voice their dislike of "cats". Don't worry, Carrots. Real women wouldn't give you a second look.
@Ladypurr You are perfectly bizarre!! You equate cats with women and seem to feel I have some deep-seated problems? For the record, I like cats and have never eaten one. My comment was a joke. Politically incorrect, yes, but a joke nonetheless. I happen to really like cats and have a great deal of respect for most women (I can think of one immediate exception...)
If dogs and cats were on the same level of deliciousness as pigs, cows and chickens, I would totally eat them too. Let alone, all of these animals are unintelligent and would be extinct if humans didn't breed them for food in the first place.
I'm on top of the food chain, that's why. Also, eating dogs is illegal. I'm not going to limit my life for the insignificant life of a chicken. Besides, meat tastes so freakin' good.
@NotSureWhatToPut ...Insignificant life of a chicken, eh? Well, 'Put.....in my opinion, the difference between you and that insignificant chicken on the road would be skid marks...in front of the chicken.
LOVE this campaign. Well done Canada!! I wish someone would do a campaign like this here in Australia. I'm DEFINITELY going to download the posters and do a local campaign myself.
Although, being a vegetarian supporter, I am very happy to see this campaign come along .... personally I am not too impressed with the reasoning in the posters .. , as I feel that it is completely okay to eat dogs if you want to eat cows or pigs ... infact people in SE Asia (even in NE India) eat dogs pretty frequently .... I must say that those dogs or other animals that they eat are raised way more humanely than what happens in Canada.
For the record, I eat meat although I am slowly trying to be vegetarian. I am posting this simply to state that we cannot consider plants and animals in the same category, although both are biological organisms. As a scientist, I can state for a fact that the mental function and the central nervous system of animals (and humans) is vastly different from that of plants. Plants do not cry, show affection to their own as well as other species, protect their children, learn new skills and so forth.
I was so so happy when I saw these ads come out because that's what I've always thought. Why eat one and not the other. So glad we are making the public aware ... can't miss it when it's starring right at you :)
Dont think this as a campaign to insult those eat meat , this is to make you think that every creature is a living being and not merely food. If considered not as food, these animals would not be treated this way ..
@johanna006 I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I don't think becoming a vegetarian should be pushed onto people. I love animals, but in my opinion, I think certain ones are here for us to eat. I understand they are living things, but hey...technically plants are also living things, but I guess that doesn't matter huh........
@stefania825 Plants are "sentient". Did you learn anything in science classes or do you just don't give a damn? Who the hell are you to say what creatures are put here for us to eat. I'm sure if T-Rex were here, he'd feel the same way about you!
@Ladypurr Nope...never learned anything in science class I guess. And you're right T-Rex would feel the same way. Thanks for agreeing with me. Also..if you actually read what I said..I said "I THINK" I never said it was matter of fact. Maybe you never learned anything in English class I guess.
@packetzn You wouldn't want to eat this vegan. I'd be your gut's worst nightmare. Hang in there, chump. At the rate mankind is going you'll be eating lots of human flesh--just to stay alive. Cheers!
@MrKBrandon03 No eating meat is not bad, but they way they treat and kill the animals is. Only a cold-hearted murderer would stand by and let that happen.
@MrKBrandon03 OH YEAH?!! Google "A Delicate Balance-the truth" and watch the film. Also do the same with "Earthlings". Go on youtube and watch 'Foods that kill". And check out Gary Yaroufsky's lecture too!!!
The only bright spot in all of this is that the souls born as these animals and tortured to death were the humans who in their past life tortured animals to death. Its called karma and her rules are stringent and inescapable. Choose your actions and choose your consequences.
@manibandha first, how do you know that these are the souls of the humans who tortured animals....duh...and what do you even know about karma..its a sanskrit word and it means "deeds"...Geeta says that you have to do your KARMA (deeds) in this world and leave the results for God...so first get your basics right.....btw...i have seen a ton of vegans who are very cruel towards other fellow human beings...they cheat, they bribe, make people's life miserable..i wonder what will they be born as
I'm not saying eating meat is "wrong" but this is! This is why more and more diseases and cancers are created! Don't fuck with nature! Let these poor loving creatures have a life! Stop pumping drugs into these creatures! If you are sick or injured you go to a doctor! Animals should be seen but a vet no matter the cost, thats the responsibility if you have a pet, right? There should be no exception here! Nothing deserves this!
I understand that in the circle of life animals, amphibians, marine life etc kill each other for food but all of these creatures get a REAL life before this happens. They ARE NOT tortured from the day of their birth! They get to explore their habitats, interact with others with room! How factory farming ever became possible is beyond me.
In U.k..whn my mates got to knw tht m a veggie...dey started arguing bout it...and whn i shared my opinion...dey were juz being ignorant bitches...tynna convince me tht animals dn't feel pain tht's y u shud eat thm...i was like WTF...dey juz dn't care about killin animals...dey feel proud whn dey talk about it...which is truely sad...m nt judging...bt atleast pay sum respect to thm...:/
@ValhallaMousey Seriously.. as a meat-eater.. sure this is unnerving, but this is total propaganda and thus shouldn't be taken seriously. HOWEVER, I do agree that slaughterhouse conditions are bad, that's not the argument though. This video tries to brainwash people into thinking only if you're a vegetarian are you a good person, etc... It isn't up to you to tell people how or what they should eat. Eating meat is not bad for you, everything in moderation...
Bad beef is raised on corn meal, which cows stomachs have not evolved to digest properly, which often leaves cows with serious stomach problems. On the other hand, cows’ ruminant digestive systems are well evolved to digest grass; The cow’s digestive system has two stomachs in which the food is softened first before being fully digested in the second stomach. In this manner, feeding cows food other than grass messes with their natural digestive process;
Before I continue, there is bad beef and good beef, and I only eat good beef. We have all read the news articles and watched the horrifying videos about cows who are so sick and malnourished that they cannot walk or even stand up, but are then pushed by a forklift to be slaughtered and made into steaks. I don’t eat these and I don’t think you should either. There are such things as happy cows – cows raised on grass-only diets in open, green pastures.
@MrKBrandon03 And where do you find this meat? Do you get it from the farmer directly? Have you seen the farm? Not attacking, just wondering. I totally support ethical meat, I am a vegan and animal rights activist. But, when you go around demanding everyone be vegan, your cause has way less effect.
@MrKBrandon03 No, not at all. I am curious where you get your ethically raised meat because my non-profit activist group encourages ethically raised meat. Do you get it directly from a farmer?
Of course, it’s a lot more complicated than this. And there are much better arguments for why to eat meat. Vegetarians and vegans often focus their anti-meat campaigns on the cattle industry, so I am going to focus mostly on beef production.
One of my quickest responses to the vegetarian/vegan anti-meat rhetoric is that if we were all vegetarians, there would be no fertilizer and then eventually no plants. If we only consumed plants, all the farmland now used to raise livestock would have to be used to raise edible plants, which could mean no livestock and in turn,no fertilizer from that livestock. In the long term, this would mean no plants.Or plants only raised on artificially produced fertilizers, which would also mean polluted waters.
@MrKBrandon03 Even though I myself am Vegetarian (most of the time Vegan) I think you do have some good thoughts to share. The exception would be the comments about no animals - no fertiliser - no plants.
There's certainly enough evidence to show the more animal products people eat the higher the incidence of lifestyle diseases like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, etc. So even if you don't care about animals, care about yourself. Cut down or eliminate if possible.
as a retrospect, i found this video could be interpreted as "be like china, eat ALL the animals." But seriously, people don't need to cut meat out of their lives entirely. That's just unhealthy, but as an alternative, eat locally grown beef/pork/chicken. Just less often then usual, force the factories (who are run by corporations) out of business by supporting a local farmer. The occurrence of abusive practices are drastically lowered and people will maintain a healthy lifestyle win/win.
I have first to say one thing and think about it. The vegetarians that are not totally vegan are still promoting the torture of animal but to a lesser extent. If you eat eggs milk or butter you are still putting the animals at risk. To stop all abuse the only way is to be totally vegan. I hope that this campaign will work to get the vegan message out more than just vegetarian as I hear some saying in the interviews. They might not realize they are still promoting it through vegetarianism.TY.

Then you are the same as someone who sees a lady being attacked in the streets and doesn't call for help.
I don't think that meat eaters are bad people, but I think that when they are educated on the truth and still choose to be ignorant they become the problem. And, as much as I wish meat eaters didn't affect my world they do. So it becomes my business and my problem when my planet is polluted and people I love die. I don't see eating meat as a problem if it is done sustainably and ethically
I agree with the educated lady(Karolynemassey) below me. If this campaign were solely to raise awareness about the conditions at slaughterhouses, I would agree with it. But it's not, its purpose is to try to make it seem as if meat-eaters are bad people, which is totally false and ignorant. It's not up to anybody to tell me how to eat. I don't agree with eating dogs but it's not my place to be so rude and arrogant as to tell the man up my street who may eat dog not to eat it.
I don't think you are reading my posts, for every pound of meat 10 pounds of grain are used to produce it. One pound of grain will make you feel just as full as one pound of beef thus creating more food.
And, you seem to know nothing about farming. I grew up on a farm my whole life, and we never had grain sitting in the silo, it was always used to feed cattle. Just like my neighbors and every other farmer.
Look at those inhumane wild animals how dare they eat meat! I can't believe dogs, cats, bears, lions, sharks, tigers, hyenas, and etc........ are so evil! GAH!!!!! Don't they realize they are all brothers of the wild and should be compassionate towards each other. I mean their all sentient beings they can overcome their primal instincts and go veg!!!!!!
People keep saying...Our ancestors ate meat....Past cultures ate meat blah blah blah. That doesent mean they were right in doing so!!!! Come to think of it...maybe thats why a lot of them have those huge puffy looking bellies...they ate too much flesh, not eating enough vegetation that surrounded them. Plant foods have the most nutrients.....why try and get them after they were absorbed from an animal...thats just stupid. Oh ya....cuz it tastes good. GET OVER THAT!!! We dont need meat!
@LuluBre02 No, what we don't need is people like you who think you have the nerve to tell us what to do! I eat meat cause it tastes good like apples taste good and pita tastes good and asparagus tasted good..
@LuluBre02 And I agree with you 100%. People seem to forget that a huge part of society, including prehistoric humans, involved gathering. People that say that our ancestors ate meat are leaving out half of our diet, and in some cases more than half.
For those of you saying that it is ok to eat animals who are treated well before they are murdered instead of giving up meat altogether, I say that is better but it is still wrong. Eating meat is BAD for your health!!! It will only lead to problems...it accumulates in the body and decreases overall quality of life, weather one realizes it or not. It is a lose-lose for humans and the animals. Get over the taste...eat fruit, veg, beans, nuts and seeds instead. It is delicious and better for you.
@LuluBre02 Saying meat is bad for your health is like saying hummus or chips or [deep-fried]zucchinis are bad for your health, A.K.A = ignorant argument. Sure deep-fried zucchinis are bad for your health and so are many meats, that's why there are lean-type meats and free-range meats,etc... Also, you don't have to eat meat everyday, everything in balance! Hummus and chips are vegetarian but if you have too much of that, that's not good for you either, EVERYTHING IN MODERATION!
@Cristofero1990 Not only that, but only animal fats have cholesterol, so that is the sole reason why when meat is bad for you it is really BAD for you.
@Karolynemassey Why is that? Because you want to find a way to consume something that you selfishly enjoy without consideration of other beings or even people. I am all for ethical treatment, but if you are looking for moral cleansing ethical treatment is still not good enough. It is just a common ground to come together and move forward and create change, but it is not the answer.
I wish we have this in all countries, we can save money on our health care (which soon going to be unaffordable), our cost of maintaining the environmental pollution, more kind and compassionate people which will reduce the crime rate (if not end all the senseless war we have at the mo) and many other more benefits. No wonder the world is in a crisis, cause we do everything thats against our nature.
@DexWulf123 hmmmm I suppose not evil...just ignorant. If you were placed in a slaughter house and forced to watch the way these animals are kept and the way they are killed... it may change your opinion x
@ValhallaMousey Did that. Been there. Farm in Philippines. Slaughterhouse in Dubai. Videos everywhere else. All the sounds, the smells, the wailing of pigs, chickens, goats (cows don't really put up a fight) and the occasional fish. Nada. Still wanna eat meat.
Vegetarians have to stop assuming that everyone is going pity food just because they've read the recipe.
@DexWulf123 I just see it as natural selection. Go ahead and eat all the animal products you want, survival of the fittest I say. But, when you are on your death bed suffering from a heart attack or cancer, remember this post. Because I will be the one to sing "So long and thanks for all the fish, so sad that it should come to this, we tried to warn you all but oh dear....."
@Karolynemassey There is little to no logic in this statement what so ever. You may as well say "I am ignorant and I don't care." When we look back at slavery or unequal rights between men and women, we see the ignorant as the villain of the story. When our children look back on this social issue, they are going to say people like you are evil. Because ignorance is part of the problem. Open your eyes!!!
While I agree with the message, I think instead of asking people to go completely vegetarian it could also provide alternatives to factory farmed meat. Before going vegetarian I spent a year eating organic, grain fed meat from small local farms who gladly showed how their operations work. It was more expensive, but I had no problems spending the extra money for better quality food and to support local business.
@NoBoogerHere Being half Inuk, I grew up in an environment where the only viable food source is animal meat. Our climate is very poor for vegetation, and though we do have edible roots and some berries, there is not enough to feed everyone. So your suggestion that "meat consumption is unnecessary" is not true at all. In a realistic sense, I also know the majority of meat eaters out there aren't just going to drop meat. I think you can work to stop factory farming while promoting vegetarianism.
@qumbug Well OK, but in my view, humans shouldn't be living in those harsh environments in the first place, so... relocate humans to moderate climates and lets work towards a more balanced and compassionate life?
On your 2nd point, I agree, I can't see most of the selfish morons (the majority) making even one step towards a vegetarian lifestyle, let alone approaching life more ethically. Not a lot I can do about that.
@qumbug --- Your comment is well taken. Vegetarians and vegans alike respect the need to consume animal flesh in climates where growing plants becomes a challenge. At least in your situation, you have the ability to kill quickly and humanely and probably have a respect and reverence for the animals you consume. Meat-eating in the US has demanded that animals be treated as nothing more than unfeeling commodities. They are born, raised and killed without mercy. We will answer for this.
humans can, will and are eating whatever they can. including most animals and fish, as well as insects! so having pets and not eating them are really just a luxury. give a dog to famine ridden Somalians or Ethiopians and i wont expect them to keep it as a pet, would you?!
in the developed world greed is the problem; its not enough to eat meat once or twice a week, some need to have it every phucking day!
Eating vegetarian does not equate to being eco-friendly. Rice cultivation produces massive amounts of methane globally each year- estimated between 50-100 million tonnes (Greenhouse Gas Online .org site.) So while beef production produces methane, so does rice cultivation. Also, soybean farming and shipping is contributing to deforestation acts in the Brazilian Amazon (Barona et al. 2010.) Cattle ranching is still the main culprit for pasture expansion- soybeans are adding to these numbers.
For those of you convinced that eating meat is so "natural" for humans, this video by Bizarro's Dan Piraro addresses the issues of herbivores versus carnivore, canine teeth versus molars, and human's history as non-meat-eaters in a youtube vid called "Vegan Video". Plus, it's a fun watch!
This is excellent! I've been thinking about this for a very long time....BUT what happens to these animals if they are not farmed for food? Most residential neighbourhoods don't allow "farm" animals as pets (there are bi-laws). What can we do for them? I would love a piglet to run around with my dog, or even a cow...they are beautiful. But I'm not sure about the overall picture. I guess if we all go veg, there won't be a demand and therefore less animals will be farmed for food...
Factory Farming is the real problem but it exists due to the huge quantity of meat and dairy products our society demands. The conditions the animals are raised under necessitate the use of hormones and antibiotics to combat diseases and to promote rapid growth and development. This has significant implications for human health and well-being not to mention the environment or the animals. I don't believe there is anything wrong with eating meat, but at least consider where it comes from.
Sure, any video will look or sound good if you have a cute white girl as your spokesperson..This is just another example of white liberal elitism with their "holier-than-thou" attitude, trying to shove their mentality down other people's throats.. and ridicule anyone who disagrees..
And...I think this is actually the most open-minded thing a human can conceive, becuse we've been living of meat for many years and most of the population in the world eats meat. This has made most of the people fond of meat rather than having a veg-based diet, beacause it is how it has been from te first humans on earth 'till now. And many people reject the idea of giving up meat, and call vegetarians/vegans egomaniac, stupid or crazy people...That for me is being close-minded...
Also, as any other group in the world, we just try to inform people about the condition in which some(most?) animals are and how they are being treated and the benefits of a vegetarian/vegan diet. We CAN live without meat physiologically and psychologically speaking. This world wouldn't be so sad if we all accepted that, or at least tried to live according to it.
How come some people find this not cruel, it is normal, but its also cruel. And trying to ignore it just because they are not a cow or a chicken or a pig to be treated in a certain way(caged, locked,cut,smashed,crushed,decapitad,slewn...) they feel they can say what they want, and indeed you can! But some of us don't share the same opinions about the matter as them...so...please, please try to reserve such comments abput vegetarians or vegans being imbecils.

I must say that those dogs or other animals that they eat are raised way more humanely than what happens in Canada.
sarju5 2 months ago
For the record, I eat meat although I am slowly trying to be vegetarian. I am posting this simply to state that we cannot consider plants and animals in the same category, although both are biological organisms. As a scientist, I can state for a fact that the mental function and the central nervous system of animals (and humans) is vastly different from that of plants. Plants do not cry, show affection to their own as well as other species, protect their children, learn new skills and so forth.

Bad beef is raised on corn meal, which cows stomachs have not evolved to digest properly, which often leaves cows with serious stomach problems. On the other hand, cows’ ruminant digestive systems are well evolved to digest grass; The cow’s digestive system has two stomachs in which the food is softened first before being fully digested in the second stomach. In this manner, feeding cows food other than grass messes with their natural digestive process;
MrKBrandon03 2 months ago
Before I continue, there is bad beef and good beef, and I only eat good beef. We have all read the news articles and watched the horrifying videos about cows who are so sick and malnourished that they cannot walk or even stand up, but are then pushed by a forklift to be slaughtered and made into steaks. I don’t eat these and I don’t think you should either. There are such things as happy cows – cows raised on grass-only diets in open, green pastures.
MrKBrandon03 2 months ago
@MrKBrandon03 And where do you find this meat? Do you get it from the farmer directly? Have you seen the farm? Not attacking, just wondering. I totally support ethical meat, I am a vegan and animal rights activist. But, when you go around demanding everyone be vegan, your cause has way less effect.

LikeOLikeHInYourGut 2 months ago
Of course, it’s a lot more complicated than this. And there are much better arguments for why to eat meat. Vegetarians and vegans often focus their anti-meat campaigns on the cattle industry, so I am going to focus mostly on beef production.
MrKBrandon03 2 months ago
One of my quickest responses to the vegetarian/vegan anti-meat rhetoric is that if we were all vegetarians, there would be no fertilizer and then eventually no plants. If we only consumed plants, all the farmland now used to raise livestock would have to be used to raise edible plants, which could mean no livestock and in turn,no fertilizer from that livestock. In the long term, this would mean no plants.Or plants only raised on artificially produced fertilizers, which would also mean polluted waters.
MrKBrandon03 2 months ago 2
@MrKBrandon03 Even though I myself am Vegetarian (most of the time Vegan) I think you do have some good thoughts to share. The exception would be the comments about no animals - no fertiliser - no plants.
There's certainly enough evidence to show the more animal products people eat the higher the incidence of lifestyle diseases like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, etc. So even if you don't care about animals, care about yourself. Cut down or eliminate if possible.
walkindalight 2 months ago
@MrKBrandon03 We don't really need fertilizer to survive. Plants can flourish without fertilizer. This is kinda ridiculous.
LikeOLikeHInYourGut 2 months ago
as a retrospect, i found this video could be interpreted as "be like china, eat ALL the animals." But seriously, people don't need to cut meat out of their lives entirely.

LikeOLikeHInYourGut 2 months ago

LuluBre02 2 months ago
@LuluBre02 Saying meat is bad for your health is like saying hummus or chips or [deep-fried]zucchinis are bad for your health, A.K.A = ignorant argument. Sure deep-fried zucchinis are bad for your health and so are many meats, that's why there are lean-type meats and free-range meats,etc... Also, you don't have to eat meat everyday, everything in balance! Hummus and chips are vegetarian but if you have too much of that, that's not good for you either, EVERYTHING IN MODERATION!
Cristofero1990 2 months ago 3

Wow what a great message to the public crowd of Toronto. This is so true and saving animals is so important!!!
kritikumar77 2 months ago
While I agree with the message, I think instead of asking people to go completely vegetarian it could also provide alternatives to factory farmed meat. Before going vegetarian I spent a year eating organic, grain fed meat from small local farms who gladly showed how their operations work. It was more expensive, but I had no problems spending the extra money for better quality food and to support local business.
qumbug 2 months ago
@qumbug Why? The point is, that this slaughter and meat consumption is unnecessary. We shouldn't be enslaving fellow creatures full-stop :-/
NoBoogerHere 2 months ago
@NoBoogerHere Being half Inuk, I grew up in an environment where the only viable food source is animal meat. Our climate is very poor for vegetation, and though we do have edible roots and some berries, there is not enough to feed everyone. So your suggestion that "meat consumption is unnecessary" is not true at all. In a realistic sense, I also know the majority of meat eaters out there aren't just going to drop meat. I think you can work to stop factory farming while promoting vegetarianism.
qumbug 2 months ago 5
@qumbug Well OK, but in my view, humans shouldn't be living in those harsh environments in the first place, so... relocate humans to moderate climates and lets work towards a more balanced and compassionate life?
On your 2nd point, I agree, I can't see most of the selfish morons (the majority) making even one step towards a vegetarian lifestyle, let alone approaching life more ethically. Not a lot I can do about that.
NoBoogerHere 2 months ago
@qumbug --- Your comment is well taken. Vegetarians and vegans alike respect the need to consume animal flesh in climates where growing plants becomes a challenge. At least in your situation, you have the ability to kill quickly and humanely and probably have a respect and reverence for the animals you consume. Meat-eating in the US has demanded that animals be treated as nothing more than unfeeling commodities. They are born, raised and killed without mercy. We will answer for this.
Ladypurr 1 month ago 5
humans can, will and are eating whatever they can. including most animals and fish, as well as insects! so having pets and not eating them are really just a luxury. give a dog to famine ridden Somalians or Ethiopians and i wont expect them to keep it as a pet, would you?!
in the developed world greed is the problem; its not enough to eat meat once or twice a week, some need to have it every phucking day!

Solarbay 2 months ago
For those of you convinced that eating meat is so "natural" for humans, this video by Bizarro's Dan Piraro addresses the issues of herbivores versus carnivore, canine teeth versus molars, and human's history as non-meat-eaters in a youtube vid called "Vegan Video". Plus, it's a fun watch!
DivineRedhead 2 months ago
This is excellent! I've been thinking about this for a very long time....BUT what happens to these animals if they are not farmed for food? Most residential neighbourhoods don't allow "farm" animals as pets (there are bi-laws). What can we do for them? I would love a piglet to run around with my dog, or even a cow...they are beautiful. But I'm not sure about the overall picture. I guess if we all go veg, there won't be a demand and therefore less animals will be farmed for food...

George19410205 2 months ago
Factory Farming is the real problem but it exists due to the huge quantity of meat and dairy products our society demands. The conditions the animals are raised under necessitate the use of hormones and antibiotics to combat diseases and to promote rapid growth and development. This has significant implications for human health and well-being not to mention the environment or the animals. I don't believe there is anything wrong with eating meat, but at least consider where it comes from.

TsubakiRan 2 months ago
Also, as any other group in the world, we just try to inform people about the condition in which some(most?) animals are and how they are being treated and the benefits of a vegetarian/vegan diet. We CAN live without meat physiologically and psychologically speaking. This world wouldn't be so sad if we all accepted that, or at least tried to live according to it.
TsubakiRan 2 months ago
How come some people find this not cruel, it is normal, but its also cruel. And trying to ignore it just because they are not a cow or a chicken or a pig to be treated in a certain way(caged, locked,cut,smashed,crushed,decapitad,slewn...) they feel they can say what they want, and indeed you can! But some of us don't share the same opinions about the matter as them...so...please, please try to reserve such comments abput vegetarians or vegans being imbecils.
