  • This is very sad :(

  • An incredibly moving video. Truly reflects the importance of literacy starting with children but including all ages. No one is ever too old to learn to read and write.

  • The simple things like reading and writing is what I take for granted in life. Most people don't have that luxury, and it is shocking.

  • i like how everyone in the movie is from non white countries when there are illiterate people in america.

  • Visuals are a powerful tool for promoting literacy... illiteracy is very much a form of slavery!

  • "The trail starts here, at the front door of the public library."

  • Illiteracy is a problem throughout the world. It causes a wider divide between the "haves" and "have nots". Literacy matters.

  • Do you Americans have the word "us"......I only ask 'cos [oops sorry!] what do I hear if I type it in to the comment box and press Audio Preview?....Hmmmmmm.....I'm paranoid!

  • I think the demographics here are misleading. There are four times the amount of people in Asia than any other continent, so the problem of illiteracy is actually the same in Asia as anywhere else.

Looks like these folks couldn't read the information properly.

  • @Casanuda that does not include the effect of the MNCs coming into these countries & producing stuff cheaply so that the americans can get a lot without doing any thing & without paying for it. This does not even mention how many americans are literate. A hi scool grad has to take basic reading & writing courses in college 4 2yrs before he can start doing anything

  • Good video!!! Please Feel free to watch kids in India

  • Good job guys. Very powerful video.

The fact that you got the little kid narrating was just great and it added a lot of feeling to your video.

    Star & Lauren.

  • Illiteracy is a growing problem in Asia, as the income gap grows and scores of children are left behind. Your movie did an excellent job of tackling this, and the narration by the 3rd grader was a wonderful touch. Well done!

  • As a teacher in Asia, I found this video particularly moving. The narration by a child is a brilliant stroke and very powerful. All points are simply made, which enhances the video's impact. Well Done!

  • i love the starting and the camera angles.

its really good and i think by making a little kid do the narrative voice, makes it stronger.

    its cute

  • amazing i should say

but i somehow don't like the narrator, have a kid reading it is a nice idea, but this kid is like emotionless when narrating

maybe a young girl will be a better idea

    good job anyways

  • Pedophile.

  • The juxtaposition of an optimistic child's voice with the images of the stripped innocence of his poverty-chained peers blatantly evokes the despair found in the situation of illiterate youths. I commend you also for the well timed editing, with calculated use of fades and text insets. Such unabashed use of tried and true pathos-grabbing techniques make Madison Avenue proud. Well done.

  • good job! great touch with the narration makes the movie alot more effecting in communicating the idea

  • i thought that the use of music was really well done and i was amazed by the figures of illiterate people in asia. -lilmizqty

  • wow. wow. speechless. wow.... Very effective use of different media types (photos, kid's narration, music) to bring out the sad and seriousness of this issue. I liked how you clarify the never ending cycle of poverty and illiteracy. Wow. Very well done. ok. LOV YOU PEA! SEE YOU LATER DATER!

  • everyone talks about africa, helping africa step out into the light, helping africans step onto their own two feet. and we all donate to keep our concience from getting the best of us when we buy a new ipod, we don't even realize that EVERYWHERE around us, people are facing the problems we "feel" so bad about, and as you so excellently portrayed, there's no way of stopping it but by education. amazing job.

  • the narration is very effective. i liked the music as well.

    Very well made video

  • That was fantastic! Really well put together, the narration and information was succinct but the text was a bit fast.

  • nice video. amazing footage. i like the combination of the song and the child's voice. as well as the pictures. awesome idea. i would have never thought to use pictures. it really is a mad world.

  • nice video! i was just thinking, do you think that because of illiteracy in 3rd world countries and the inability to write "life experiences" down like you said - the details and the human impact of war are forgotten or overlooked? Do you think more people would pay more attention to places like Sudan or the Congo if the those affected could write their experiences down and share them with foreigners? okay. have a nice day. i miss you.

  • It's amazing there are that many people who are illiterate. It's not always the case where illiteracy is placed as the reason for poverty. I've always heard poverty is the reason for illiteracy. Great job I thought using a kid for you narrator was cool

  • Having clips rather than pictures was a very good idea. So much more can be seen in a clip and in this case, it definitely added more of an effect and made it even more thought provoking. Those first facts that you placed at the bottom of the screen were sudden and in fairly small print, so it was difficult to notice it at first.

  • Your video is REALLY good. Its awesome that you got a kid to narrate- it made the situation more real

  • very influential. love how a kid narrates the whole thing.

    awesome work.

  • oh wow. over half the illiterate peopel in asia are from india. never knew that!

  • really well done guys kudooooos

  • Powerful stuff, guys. The facts, music, and footage fit together perfectly :)

  • This is a really powerful video. I thought the combination of the child narrating, the video footage and the music was awesome. Great job!

  • Quite powerful. Having the little kid narrarate it was very intriguing and made the whole video more realistic. Props guys.

  • a really impactful video, its hard to believe that many people are illiterate; it's a priviledge that most of us overlook...the slides and everything had smooth transitions and i like the song, mad world.

  • This video really made a big impact on me, it just goes to show that illiteracy is such a huge problem in the world.

  • Good stuff! Professionally put together, and definitely gets you thinking. Where'd you get those videos?

  • whats the song title?

  • "mad world" by gary jules

  • Great video! It is astounding that there is such a high rate of illiteracy in such a high-tech world; in many ways, I think globalization marginalizes the already-marginalized.

  • I really liked the song, thought that it really went well with the video. I also thought that your activity's really interesting, good job=]

  • This video is really good. The music suits it well, and the fact that you have a child speaking in the background also adds to the effect. My only criticism is that not all of the pictures/footagwe have connections to illiteracy.

  • wow i had no idea that illiteracy had such a negative effect on the lives of the impoverished! very informative and moving.

  • Never knew illiteracy was this big of a problem and this many children and people face this problem.

  • Incredibly powerful. The usage of a child speaking really makes it moving.
