Love this song! Still gives me goosebumps. I didn't grow up with G1 but I still love it. I also loved the movie (1986) even though basically all of the original transformers got killed in 10 seconds. I think Soundwave was one of the few that survived.

It's a shame they didn't do more G1 stuff & even the movies are terrible compared to the original show/movie. Most cartoon/movie adaptation did pretty decent but Michael Bay just threw humans in the equation more then the original show ever did which is a war between Autobots & Decepticons, not hey lets throw in sexual humor & have the kid saved the world, even Spike was far better in the show then Sam, a clumsy horny kid. Really.. lol i thought the movies were a total fail.

With transformers being redone over and over again, in my eyes the original will always be the best. The characters were great and tons of em, millions of toys. The original movie is a gem, the soundtrack went well with the movie and losing optimus was one of the biggest blow a animated movie could do to me back when I was younger. I figured that since the decepticons took control of Cybertron they were probably at their peak efficiency.  Defensively and Offensively. The Autobots only managed to beat up or cripple the badguys with their best shots when the Decepticons were knocking guys off left and right with one shot. Boy, Shrapnel took a shitkicking in the movie didn't he? Got run over by Hotrod then Kup knocked him into the pit in front of the city. Prime runs him down then blasts him in that final scene.

I love G1 its the best so much heart put into it, from the characters, to the design, to the story.

MY favourites where allways Hot Rod yes i liked him and sure i liked the idea of a younge person thrust into command, you got to see how he dealt with it but nobody could replace Optimus Prime. Kup the old bot was cool too and i liked Soundwave i mean who dosnt. Galvatron was cooler than Megatron but Megatron was always the best Megatron was just pure evil.

Hmm, thats kinda tricky for me to answer. As both are two very different continueties, I liked the 1986 version coz its animation and story was very captivating, although, they could have(like you said) not kill off our fav bots!
