  • wow even sounds like hank jr! SOMEONE GET THAT MAN TO NASHVILLIE

  • that sure looks like hank jr lol

  • I am a Clowers, and it is definitely neat to see this video that I have heard so much about most of my life. It puts faces to names for me. Musical background in our family is great.

  • @redtony58 Well we have been married for 9 years in November.

  • What can I say???

  • Gorgeous piece of video, one of my all-time fave songs. Anyone know which daughter (Virginia or Burlene) was the one in the song?

  • Is this just PR? Clifton Flowers was a Federal Judge working in Denver when this was written. His daughter was going to CU/Boulder at the time. There is a Wolverton Mountain outside of Boulder, CO. When he was asked about the song, he said his daughter had associated with quite a few college students about that time, he wasn't sure of their names. Which version is true?

  • @blade0302 This song is about Wolverton Mountain in Arkansas written by song writer Merle Kilgore who was Clifton Clowers nephew.

  • Priceless! from Mona Peek

  • great music

  • Wow that was a great video...In my young life of 44 years, I had grown up when country music use to be played on AM side of the radio dial long before talk radio and satellite. I known the words and probably had heard it a hundred times. I never known the history of the song and that there was a "Clifton Clowers" Did he have a pretty young daughter? Doesnt matter now, I married . Thank you RattlerMan33

  • love this song sooo much.... i like the rebuttle from joann campbell too. its cute

  • thats' the guitar i learned on, still sounds just as good as it did then

  • so what's the story on the daughter, who must be in her 80s now if she's still alive?

  • You are right I think she is getting close to 80 she is still doing alright.

  • Awesome..I have to agree with your Pappy..By Golly This is Allright..5*****

  • Where is Wolverton/Woolverton Mountain? are there any pictures of it available? Are there still Wolvertons living there?

  • Its north of the town of Centerridge Arkansas on hwy. 9 turn left on Woolverton mt. road. The old house burnt after Clifton died but the concrete porch we are sitting on is still there.

  • grew up in the country but had big city dreams, I never understood this culture, but now I see what "pure country" is...........precious, ty for the video

  • These are my kind of people. 100%country. I was raised around people just like this and it is nothing like it. God bless 'em.

  • That guy singing does a good job. He could pass for Randall Hank Williams aka Bocephus.

  • I ain't related or know anybody from there but remember the song. It is really neat seeing this video and reading the posts.

  • thanks mike clifton was my great grandpa this ment alot to me and my dad to see this, and im sure it ment alot to him too

  • 1962. You could walk down the dormitory corridor and here this song coming from every room.

Well, the song has held up better than I have.

Great to hear it again. Tx 4 posting.

  • My mother is Jane Woolverton and I knew Clifton since I was a little girl visiting my grandfather Freeland Woolverton there! I never understood why it was spelled differently in the song but it was a great song. I met all Clifton's children at the dedication of a wing on the church up there to my grandpa and Clifton in the late 90's & Clifton's home had burned. My grandfather married Clifton's sister in law, Bea, after my grandfather died. Merle Kilgore was her nephew.

  • this is STILL my favorite vieo Mike & Missy!!!

  • I use my g-grandfather name for my you tube - John Taylor Black. He was Clifton Clower's first cousin. Their mothers were Prince Sisters. My daddy went to church with his son Burl.

  • I become friends with Merle in 1989 after he moved to Paris, TN in 1986. He told me many times about his song he had written about Clifton Clowers. There's nothing like a Merle Kilgore story. I wish there was some video posted of Merle but there doesn't seem to be any. He did so much TV and movies I am amazed there is not. Is Clifton Clowers still living? If so, it would be cool to video his version of how that song come to be and some comments about Merle from him.

    Thanks again.

  • No Im sorry he died back in 94 just short of his 103rd birthday.

  • Awesome video. Thanks for sharing this. It clearly wasn't the first time 'ol Clifton had heard the song. He would have been in his early 70s at the time of Claude King's hit single with this song.

  • Thanks for sending me this. Great to see the original Clifton Clowers. Certainly adds a dimension to the song.

  • What a wonderful day that must have been. God bless and keep the old timers and you too Mike.

  • My dad worked for the co-op and delivered feed to Clifton in the 70's a long time ago. and he died after an accident there at Kilgore Cemetary. I met Clifton once. Cool

  • You look like Hank Williams Jr.

  • Yea back then I did but not so much now.

  • this is merle's daughter , Kim .Would love to come visit sometime . Loved the video !

  • Your Dad did great things for Country music its not the same without him.

  • Classic Americana.... too bad more folks dont realise iy

  • So nice to see, Merle used to tell me about him. RIP Merle.

  • Yea this video makes me happy and sad cause Clifton, my Dad, and Merle Kilgore are all gone. They left alot of good memories.

  • This is one of the greatest videos I have ever seen. I have forgotten how slow and how good life should be. Life is simple when it is with fmaily.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • I love it! He is singing right along with you.
