I loved this scene but I guess the directors already felt that it was already made clear that Dirk's mind had already gone off the beaten path. I guess he felt there was no need to keep repeating it. He probably also wanted to show more scenes with the other performers how they fell on hard times in the early 80's. Mainly Julianne Moore, Heather Graham and Don Cheadale's characters. Still a great movie and should have won big at the oscars!

The studio that released Boogie Nights was sued and settled twice because of this song. The original (much better btw) was written and preformed by Stan Bush who did LOTS of movie songs in the 80's. The producers of BN found old studio recordings of the song but it had no names or anything that could ID who wrote it. It was assumed that it was written for a movie that never got made and included it. Both Hasbro and Stan Bush sued them because it was written and used for Transformers the movie.

But in the context of this clip, Dirk telling the recordist to 'speed it up a couple octaves' essentially means that the tape would have to double or quadruple in speed to meet his requests, thus making it sound like squirrels raping each other while on speed, and that's what makes that line so hysterical.
