Used to listen avidly on the radio, to the broadcasts from the Tower Ballroom with Reginald Dixon on the Wurlitzer organ in the 50's as a young boy, it's what made me a fan of the Wurlitzer organ and gave me a love of organ music. Thanks Reg.
Thanks Electron 1944-I must be getting old.Youre probably correct as Reginald did magicly take over from the band as he came up and they would be playing well known dance music. My error I think.Nice to hear from you.
This recording brings back many happy memories of the happy times spent in the Tower Ballroom.REGINALD will live in the memories of all the fans who danced to his strict tempo style of playing. What an experience to be on the floor when the band was taken over by the strains of "I do like to be beside the seaside" as REGINALD rose from the basement seated at the mighty wurlitzer. The Tower Ballroom had the accoustics which suited the sounds of an organ and the sound seemed to envelop everyone!
@colin3311 this place is still amazing...id pay the entrance money to sit and watch and listen...have a coffee or a beer...or nothing...great place...a wonder
I agree jbbnbb. Whilst I spent my childhood, and youth, in the South West of England, the regularly aired segments of Reginald Dixon on BBC Radio programmes was a huge binding power over the whole nation. In those days past, it was the man who created spirit of full life, not the system. When we heard the first chordes of " I do like to be beside the seaside" it was enough to throw off all the burdens of the world, whatever they might be, and to be released . I think he was a Christian .
Had the great privialge of meeting this wonderful guy in Leicester 1972. at the end of his concert. Just to shake Reg's hand somehow transported me to those years of enjoyment he gave to millions of people who danced in Tower Ballroom, and listend to his records and radio shows over so many years. I love social history, and this man is definitely part of the northern history in recent times. I just love his music, and the ' old Wurlitzer.

You don't like Reggie Wilson? What? Not even "Pop goes Delius" or "Funking up Wagner?"

@colin3311 I seem to recall that the organist always joined up with the band, playing Fascination Colin.
