Love it. Played w/ such passion and ease that it raised the bar to heights that imho are very seldom equaled by anyone's standards. This group was never given the critical acclaim they so rightly deserved then or now.
I feel priveledged to bear witness to such awesome talent. Great solos from both Eliane Elias and Mike Manieri, and Erskine's drumming is always, in my humble opinion, flawless.
Whenever I have a conversation about music with other people and they tell me that they've never liked Jazz I *always* give them THIS track to listen to.
And guess what they come back with after listening to this for a week ??
"Wow, this is beautiful - I didn't know Jazz was as nice as this, I'm hooked".
I promise. Happens all the time (I wonder why !)
To me, this piece is like how Acoustic Jazz should be.
It's so accessible, so easy listening, smooth, effortless - awesome musicianship.
this version of steps ahead is in my opinion the best jazz i have ever heard ... i know that there is not and should not be any " best " in music but for me ... this is it right here ... i havent heard this song in years and when i stumbled upon this video , just the first few notes made me emotional ... thanks to whoever posted this
Indeed! They crossover seamlessly from the latin groove to the fusion feel. What he's doing there in the transition is just hot, like at 00:51. I can listen to those kind of rhythmic patterns all day!
wonderful sound. stefflin rocks! LOOK at all those amazing vids he has uploaded. Mike is incredible. coincidental since the best vibraphonist who I know personally goes by Michael

Basicly a samba. Easy for Elaine.

It's a baiao rhythm. A little different than a straight samba.

I love these sorts of comments....
You are in my opinion so right - but let me tell you a little secret...... you are a god too.
We all are a part of God - the difference between you and them is that they are closer to their calling/source/belief/truth than you know you can be.
So be brave, show us your godliness - and don't think small !
Peace.
