Does anyone have show Hospital that was shown on launch night. Would love to see that again :D

I'm not usually a fan of funky style news, but Channel 5 really hit upon something with their 5 News bulletins.

They unashamedly played to an audience who just wanted to watch the film, the football, whatever. A quick burst of facts at lightning speed, in a way that was really fresh and new for that time.

Unfortunately though, its legacy is that other news shows did stupid copycat things, such as presenters sitting on the desk or going for a stroll around the studio etc.

@97channel I used to watch 5 all the time when it started (probably because I was bored of the other 4) but these News updates were great, they did the job, and the great thing was they did appear every hour.... except 4pm, 5pm (I think they did 5.30) and 10pm, and they'd often have the last one after Midnight, pretty good for a newbie channel. Richard Desmond take note... XD

The look they used in the early years of the channel was the best they ever had, and that whole buzz around the launch was an exciting time. That newsroom looks great, decked out in the colours of the logo. Plus it was home to the mighty Whittle, helmed by the legend that is Tim Vine.

Then 2002 came along, the "five, no 'Channel', lower case 'f', we're taking ourselves VERY seriously now" look was launched and the channel kind of lost its direction.

Nope, I did record Hospital!, but it wasn't very good really, the video recording stopped right before the next News update. When 5 started their News bulletins/updates did start bang on the hour, but that didn't last long IIRC.

semms as though five news has become a victim of itself. they promised "no guy in suit on blue screen". now see what happened now.

i was watching Comedy Central last night promoting new episodes of south park and the music in the background was the 5 news theme (1997-2003)
