  • incredible

  • I do not care if it was too fast or unpoetrical, this guy good smooth MOVES with his hands, turning them and stuff, this dude will reach far.

  • This must be the fastest playing of the work I've heard and it comes from a child. The technical feat is alarming but the lack of poetry is also quite sadly but understandbly missing.

  • speed does not represent a lack of poetry. Just because something is played faster does not mean it loses any sense of its meaning.

  • Of course. Pianists like Pollini can play with speed but with poetry as well. The poetry here is lacking, and it is atrributed to both the breakneck speed and his lack of maturity. Meaningful music is engendered only if the composer's markings are followed. For pianists of lesser calibre, these markings are glossed over with speed.

  • We are looking at a child here of course. But starting with slow practice is still essential in bringing out details in the music vital for the training of even gifted musicians.

  • really well done; im impressed. added to favorites :)

  • I don't like at all his pedal use in some parts.

    It sounds so choppy...

  • My favorite of all ballades.;)

  • are you dumb...the song is right in the beginning...Ballade No.1 In G Mi...lol

  • seconded =] lol

  • NOICEEEEEEEEEE

  • Awesome!

I would break my fingers by trying that :D

  • I think it might be waltz no. 7 I'm not sure though.

  • a chinese genius

  • hes korean:)

  • very nice, wonderful!! congratulations very expressive!!

  • Absolutely Unreal :]

  • Chopin has to my favorite composer from the classical/Romantic period..there is so much emotion in his peices!

    Well played chap

    Kenny

  • looks good

  • Harry Potter? way to be ignorant...

What song is this of Chopin's? I love it.

Very good job by the way.

  • °0° is MR. Harry Potter!! playing greaat

  • yes, very good

  • Clapping Hands, very good job... i study piano and I'v got to say Chopin is in everyway the most difficult, well... some others to... Chopin is one of the hardest, but greatest. Nice interpretation, hard work behind the piece and expert technic.

    COngratulations.

  • Outstanding! I Can't even play 20 seconds of that song. I wish I were able to, but nah, I've decided that I'll be a singer instead!

  • this is my favorite Chopin piece...he played it so well.

  • wow; wonderful! studying for finals and listening to this at same time; beautiful!

  • I like it brother, well done.

  • This piece of Chopin is very hard to play and you don't have to play it just like the original song. This is about adding your own flavor and style.

  • I guess that's what makes people different huh? I was reading all the comments from people saying "You could have played a little slower" or "No emotions".. Blah! Blah! Blah! Blah!

  • i dunno people always say wheres the romanticism, wheres the feeling, and you gotta keep in mind hes playing very technical music originally written by someone else. feeling to me is when you are playing your own music. i think this was a well played piece even tho he wasnt hammering the keys like a crazy scene from a movie. give em a break lol. think of all the people that dont know an arpeggio from a hole in their ass.

  • Awesome bro absolutely great..

  • i dont think that he is not feeling the musik its just his own interpretation. u have to understand his romanticism. he dont have to play like other great pianist its good if he feels the musik like this. PERFEKT!

  • GREAT!

  • brother you sound like a metronome....where is the romanticism????

  • what is the name of the track ?

  • ballade in g minor from opus 23.

  • Great talent!

    Chopin

  • This is great! You are amazing!

  • I loved it i dont think you need to change your style.

  • Man you are great..very good technique... but there are some problems of interpretation too...maybe if you wait 4 or 5 years you can play it better... this a very difficult piece, it needs more experience... but you are in the good way.... congratulations ;)

ps. sorry, i'm portuguese, my english isn't great...

  • good effort, but little too dry. need more heart and must be able to sing, but that will come with more experience and maturity later on.

  • As I always say, I admire anyone who can play such difficult pieces, and all the hard work and dedication that it takes for one to get to this point. However, you rushed through it and it sounds a bit too technical. Need to add some feeling into it as well as more pedal. I myself am still learning this piece. Not an easy piece to learn. Great playing though!!

  • I bet you're rubbish at piano.

  • And you're just an asshole who has nothing intelligent to say. Obviously I'm anything but rubbish at the piano if I'm able to play this monster piece and many others. This is EXACTLY why I don't post any videos is because of idiots like you. As long as I know that I have musical talent and satisfied with that is all that matters.

  • I hate to say this, because anyone who loves good music enough to devote years of hard work towards its performance deserves our admiration. BUT... when I think of all the deep musical personalities who struggle with technique, and then hear a pianist with natural technique and no natural sense of musicality or phrasing, it saddens me.

  • You're gay.

  • Excellent playing! Could use a little more peday in sections a bit more legato needed in slow section measure 68 through to measure 93.Could be more expressive here as well. Otherwise excellent. You must be entering competitions.

  • Aren't you the expert. Ha.

  • as a matter of fact I teach piano, all levels. I also studied with a concert pianist. So Ha back

  • no music? what are you talking about? you abiously don't undnerstand what good music is ...

I wish I had learned to play when my parents told me

  • off

    the

    hook

  • Quite good.

  • Excellent. Very pleasant to hear you play so well. My advice, however, would be to be less technical and not to rush this wonderful piece. It seems like you were on a high tempo, which is not how this song is to be played. Don't rush it and definitely try smoothing it down a little. At various times you hit the notes to hard and it takes the softness of the notes away. But the hardest part, you have already mastered. Hopefully my comments help you, as I mean to give them in good intentions.

  • you are AMAZING...

  • Excellent playing!! Don't listen to that idiot about presentation, I sometimes play in front of a audience dressed like a chav. LOL

  • audreyame is 13 and is giving you advise? yes audreyame, transitions between loads and softs are a little easier to accomplish when youre playing mary had a little lamb...

    awesome chopin

  • Love that! Chopin to polak !

  • No pedal, no music!!

  • muy bien, pero quiza si usases el pedal un poco mas sonaria mejor, ya que algunas notas suenan muy secas. ;)

  • there's no music there.

  • wow. some of the people on here are jerks. you're an amazing piano player man. there were plenty of dynamics for me. your skill is astounding. maybe they're trying to help, but honestly, you should be helping them. keep it up. please.

    -Tyler

  • But still, kudos towards your major talent. You're young, and my criticsms as mean as they sounded is nothing you can't overcome. They things come with age. I went through the same phase as you when I was your age and I wasn't anywhere near as talented. You have a very bright future.

  • This may seem irrelevant, but to me, it's also important to make yourself look as presentable as possible. I'd ditch the glasses and definetly put some hair gel on. I know that sounds mean, but that's the reaction I had. I find it hard to watch people play, no matter how talented they are, when they're dressed up as dorks. Concert performers should at least try to look their best, and though it may seem shallow, it does affect how people take in their performance.

  • I'm sure they told Mozart that too, j/k

  • Like as many here said, good technique, but lacking in emotion. Some parts were played waaayyy too fast.

  • Very nice, but I'd try to make the transitions between the louds and softs a bit smoother. Try not to bang at the piano, but the technique is good. Perhaps a little warmer, more "emotion". Hah. I sound like my Russian piano teacher. =_= Remember to breathe.

  • I think it was great...WOW...

  • Fab technique brother. Work on pedal usage, some bits sounded just a bit jerky. As others have said: work on interpretation and you'll have an amazing performance there. Good luck to you.

  • WOW gret performance...but i with prefer if use a bit more pedal!:D

    Otherwise it was great:D

  • metallic, cold, like a machine

  • Fine!

I don't know if Chopin would have played it in such a way but

I felt it is a really interesting WAY to play it:

it made possible to me to understand/imagine something new about it

    & it sounds reasonable

so 4 me this interpretation is GREAT

Impossible to get bored with that (thanx 4 existing!)

OK please don't became too harder in the future, nobody needs these bongoing pianists of today, but it's ok

  • I'm not impressed

  • good technique, but not very good interpretation...

  • excellent man.

  • I feel like learning the piece and posting it just to shut you up :P

  • wow a little to fast. but exelent work a great performance keep the good work!

  • you play great! Really that was amazing...but i must agree with some other: play with more emotion! Playing piano it's not just read notes and play them...you have to feel them, if you learn that, it will be perfect!! :) and use more pedal!

  • oh my god!its amazing!im impresed.you have got talent a lot!

  • Astonishing performance, I would have played it differently but everyone is entitled to have an interpretation of one´s own.

besides: I like your suit...and your piano =)

  • pretty good for your age dude!

  • Wow, slow down, man! I mean boy. Yep I agree with all the other comments. For future reference watch "The Pianist" to understand how to play this piece.

  • Pianist Janusz Oleiniczak played all of chopin

s pieces in that movie..listen out for Pianist Janusz Oleiniczak...the guy is simply a master of chopin...imo

  • Thanks, luganskymichlangeli. Never thought of it. Now I can search for great performances of Chopin's pieces! Thanks a million again.

  • I'd like to see those dumbasses play this song with the guts to show their face in the video...Seriously keep up the good work

  • IN CONCLUSION: Just record your hands so that the dumbasses won't criticize you for being so-called "emotionless"

  • I see you all guys know Chopin more than anybody else. Say hello to him when you meet thim. I ain't been that lucky so far.

  • Not too shabby kid. Remember Chopins passion wasn't...playing TO the critics. Chopins compositions werent about 'pleasing the king and his jesters'.

"I wish I could throw off the thoughts which poison my happiness. And yet I take a kind of pleasure in indulging them." Chopin

"Put all your soul into it, play the way you feel!" Chopin

  • Guys, he's a kid. The emotional depth will come later. He is a great young player, bravo!

  • Think of Chopin, so young and romantic and so full of life, but he also knew that he was sickly and weak, and that he would die young- there is some of this knowledge in everything he writes- he's living through the music that he writes, and the passion and strength that he couldn't experience in his life because of his physical weakness is all right there in the music. You just have to find a way to tap into his feelings, and you will suddenly understand the "whatness" of this work.

  • All I say is bravo, bravo, bravo!

  • Emotions please. Also, pay attention to the rests. It seems like you just played the entire song without any of the dramatic pauses. You entirely broke the rhythm which makes the song "musically" challenging. Typically, most people who play this song are not as young as you, so I give you props; but its because of your youth that you don't understand this song. Try to imagine [visualize] a picture when you play this song. All I head is Forte, forte, forte.

  • 2:22 lol

  • Bravo! This is such a challenging piece and you are well on your way to mastering it. This work will stay with you for your whole life, and it will evolve as you mature emotionally and musically. You will learn something new every time you play it. You are a very talented musician! Don't listen to the guy who said you have no talent; he is probably just jealous!

  • terrible. please quit piano. You have no musical talent and you probably never will.

  • u r stupid - even if it were 100 times true - it is a stupid comment. U r stupid that can hardly ever change - something like this.

  • excellent technique, great play! the only comment I have is I try to play it so it doesn't sound like there's a metronome ticking inside your ear, play with a little more heart, this piece is from the top years of the romantic period, it's ok to ignore the written down rythms in some parts (especially between two different speeds) and play like you feel it!

  • I will not involve myself in this argument - You are getting there but PLEASE have the music in front of you so you know when to pause. :o)

  • all he needs to do is use the pedal more, flow more like pianohead said, and he'll be sounding more like yundi in no time!!

  • not bad, pretty cool, but i don't like this interpretation, pas assez d'émotion, trop mecanique...

  • You have the fingers but is it a bad acoustic their should be some emotional dynamiccontrast after the first 36.Nice&Gentle w/out the usual over pedaling .At meno mossoand beyond felt as if you didn't have any idea about the music. You already have so much in place.Seek more culture or listen to teacher.Always ask yourself what is behind this music.Just look at hepage sometimes.analyse what happens.

  • Very nice, keep it up, use the pedal more!!! Flow more. But in all you do just fine. Its all about learining.

  • not great

  • Excellent, for a non-professional performance to get through it so gracefully was marvelous

  • Im gonna keep it simple here and just say that I liked it and I thought it sounded great. :P

  • This guy has some good instincts in music, and have decent technique, but unfortunately not well-trained, thus ruining this beautiful ballade piece. Obviously he lacks musical knowledge and should really find a good teacher to help develop his own potential.

  • He didn't "ruin" this piece. DAMN, why dont you upload a piano performance yourself before you completely bash his. This is easily the most impressive non-pro performance I've seen on youtube in awhile, and he still looks very young. oh well, at least you say he got potential.

note - most webcams have a way of sucking the dynamics out of piano songs, but I thought the dynamics were excellent anyway.

  • maybe I shouldn't say ruin but I think he is relying too much on his instincts instead of an analytical musical mind. In various places his interpretations do not make much sense, or simply put I don't like it. But I can see this guy can play much better "musically", given his good technique. And tell you what, I know this piece and I think I play better than him, no offense.

  • truly a noob, you should quit piano forever

  • yeah i agree people are too fussy with this. it is easily a great performance and does not need any insulting.

  • I would like to reply on what you say about the rubato... I learned that Chopin was indeed famous for his rubato, but only becouse he used it in a very subtile way. He would slow down one hand while the other (mostly the left) would stay in tempo. He always played with a metronome on his piano and he hated piano playing with to much rubato. Chopin is to be played subtile, with a almost Classical left hand, almost... I think this is a good video! Greetings!

  • It's called rubato, that's what chopin is famous for...and this is a chopin ballade not a czerny study. You don't play it EXACTLY as it's written.

  • For everyone who thinks it doesn't have enough feeling, play this to someone who hasn't seen this video and without the actual picture in front of them. I bet they'll say it's fine. Yes needs more pedal, but I'm looking at the room and it looks like it might be the function of the acoustics of that box cause I have the music in front of me and he's pedalling in the right places.

  • Superb technique! Ballad #1 is one of my favorite works of Chopin. By the way, I would also like to see you play Ballad #4.

  • Nice! like it.

  • I really liked it, you've got incredible potential. But.. Not enough feeling, man.. it's all technique, technique, technique. In the fast places, you still need to make it musical and not mechanical. Good luck!

  • Great, great player!

  • dude, you insulting folks are idiots. You can't say retarded stuff like "that's not how chopin was meant to be played" like you were there when Fry played it...dumbass.

  • i agree.. it looks to me that you have picked up a katana and choped some phrases...

sometimes it looks like a waltz and i think a little more pedal in some parts would stay great. not romantic enough in my opinion...

    nice technique though

  • i didn't like the beginning, and a lot of other parts...you can definitely play, but you don't understand how chopin's music is to supposed to be played

  • You did a very good job. I enjoyed listening to you.

  • it definately needs more pedal. At least, thats what i think. Otherwise, it was great!

  • man that was good!!! no offence but try to play the beginning part slower with expression and use more pedals thanks

  • Sorry, but the intro is not great. Put feeling into it! 3.5/5

  • I agree. Listening to the intro, I thought that the rest was going to be mundane. I was proved wrong thankfully..

  • I've played this for years (I'm old!) and, although this performance is a bit mechanical, I love it! Go kid!!

  • That was wonderful, great technique employed. Perhaps it could have been a little slower in some places - this is one of my favourite Chopin pieces and a recording is almost a whole minute longer than your performance. Lovely nevertheless.

  • I wish the camera angle was more from the side. The angle makes it hard to see your hands. Aside from a couple of awkward pauses, this was a wonderful preformance. I would go the opposite from some of the other commenters in that romantic music is not sentimental but passionate. It seemed a little too flowery to me in the slow places, but then I like Backhaus.

  • its really good, its just the sound effect isnt perfecty when u recorded it, i am sure it sounds alot better in the room u were playing.

  • that's great! I thought it sounded really beautiful!

  • come on he's got emotion wat u on about

    just not alot

plus he's got a cam looking at him so i'm guessing that he doesn't wanna put too much or he'll ruin it tha'ts all

  • kid what their all sayin is, you did really good. you got your technique down and you did great. Now just put ur emotion into it... but man that was good.

  • use more pedal!!!!

  • Brilliant performance! Could have slowed it down in places, but I liked it a lot :)

  • Ignore these other backhanded compliments. This ballade is so often butchered by over-ripe romantic interpretations. Your technique is flawless and your tempo is appropriate for your lightness of touch.

  • chopin was from the romantic era, this song, however teachnically correct, was not meant to be played as you did. You play very well, technically...learn to play musically. check out rachmaninov, he was like a GOD of this type of music.

  • You have really good technique, but the people are right, slow it down and play with more emotion, Horowitz is a good example.

  • dont play it! this is not music that any one can play.. maybe you dont have big mistakes but where is the passion... you play it like it was a kids song.. well that what i have to say.. sorry if it hurts

  • hey kid, you are great, you're really talented, but you're so worried for your technique that you're wasting a lot of opportunities for make music, remember that you're playing music, not just pressing keys fast

  • go look at vladimir horowitz play this song! lol you make your piano keys look very easy to pres

  • too fast in the beginnning!!! whats wit your glasses lmao

  • incredible...

  • KICKASS!!!

I ADMIRE YOU PLAYING ONE OF CHOPIN'S PIECES

    IM OFFICIALLY JEALOUS LOL

  • Damn I'm gonna learn this over the holiday lol :P (Probs not im working on too much stuff instead lol)

  • How old are you?

  • I'm jealous, this is incredibly beautiful
