Has there EVER been any deaths here doing this? I think you'll find that most deaths at the beach are caused by untrained people not knowing what they are doing. Where i live there is a similar spot and we grew up throwing ourselves into it. You get to know the spot and know your limits. For someone that knows what they are doing it's not as dangerous as it looks.

@anaki71 Many local oceanside dwellers will have blow holes, shore breaks or jump rocks that they frequent, from an early age and rarely get into difficulty. For many locals they would not. I couldn't jump on the back of a bull at a rodeo, I couldn't drive a sports car like Button. The guy in this film can jump into these waves and get out without a blemish(.)
They jump around and get pushed but the chances of them getting sucked out to sea in a rip is very low. Especially since there is a 4 foot tall wall of rock between them and the ocean.
Also you can read whitewater. Obviously you dont surf, because if you did, youd know theres a whole method behind swells. Swell period, direction, and strength all account for the number of waves in a set (usually 7-10) and the time between them.

Yeah I drove past coogee on sunday and it looked like it was pumping but I've been too busy, wish I wasn't. I have done it plenty of times without a wetty even when it was as big as that but after one or two goes your back is fucked from when you wedge under the rock(when its huge). I've looked at the Mahon pool one but only been there when it was barely big enough to work. Have you done suctions at North end? I wanna get some good footage of that next time. Yeah I drove past coogee on sunday and it looked like it was pumping but I've been too busy, wish I wasn't. I have done it plenty of times without a wetty even when it was as big as that but after one or two goes your back is fucked from when you wedge under the rock(when its huge). I've looked at the Mahon pool one but only been there when it was barely big enough to work. Have you done suctions at North end? I wanna get some good footage of that next time.
