Ok, will try with a splitter to exsisting tv aerial once my 33/303 come back from Quad service. I sent them off last week and unfortunatley turnaround time is 3 weeks haha.
Cool Quad 33/303/fm3 combo! I bought the 33/303 recently on eBay and described as working but when I connected them up, loud humming crackly sound coming out from one speaker, nothing from the other - TOTAL waste of my money!
@littleredones Hi... sorry to hear about your QUADs. Obviously you bought poor examples. But remember these are 30 - 40 year old system, and they need to be serviced every 15 -20 years. Services are simple - just replacing the old capacitors, and they will work like NEW, and will keep on working forever.
I am a total novice as regards to electronics and hopeless with a soldering iron, so the task of replacing parts on the 33/303 is beyond me, so thinking sending them off to Quad for service/repair/upgrades but the costs won't be cheap!
Thanks for the demo of your perfect FM 3. Mine fried recently and Planabox in Montreal tells me he can't fix it ( keep for parts he says ).Hard to find here, going at $200CA. Buying a wooden sleeve this week, nice item. Using the 405 with Dynaco A 35's. Fanatically searching for ESL 57's...lost an eBay auction this week for a perfect pair in Boston . He removed the listing 18 hours before ending due to lower than desired bids. He told me he sold them locally for $1000 USD. Pity.
@donpro Sorry to hear about your 303. They are repairable, even with just soldering iron and multi meter - you just replace the faulty or burnt components, and they will work again like NEW. Watch out for the parts on eBay, and they should come up. I never had the ESL 57s, but they supposed to be well matching with the QUADs. I run my QUADs with a pair vintage harfedales from 1950s, and they sound pretty good. Hope you will get the 303 repaired, also good luck on hunting for the ESL57.
Dude... nice kit, but you really shouldn't have the Quads on top of your Arcam CD player. You are doing no favours to your sound here. Put nothing on top of -anything-, if you fancy good sound.
@thadvancedaudiophile Hi Mate~ Thanks for your comment. I know what you mean about stacking the system, and how it is no good for the sound, but right now I have no much space in the house.... so I almost sold my QUAD system on eBay, but fortunately no one has bid on them - maybe I was looking for too much? I am glad that I still have the QUAD with me, as these are excellent sounding machines. cheers.
Thanks for posting this. I am possibly about to buy exactly this set, and now I have a better impression.
Is the hiss coming from your videocamera?

Hi, what type of aerial you used for the fm3?

@littleredones Hi The aerial is an old TV antenna - now no use due to Satellite dishes we have, but it works surprisingly well on FM. cheers.
