  • Grandissima interpretazione!

  • It is hard to remove the religious aspect from this piece when you consider that every note of it was written to praise the divinity...

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • Beautiful, gentle touch, wonderful interpretation.

  • Well done! Nice touch.

  • This is the Voice of God...and I'M NOT RELIGIOUS!

  • nice phrasing....

  • They make it look so easy. :D <3

  • thankyou

  • evangelion

  • @jasonbloss don't bring up such a convoluted and contorted anime in regards to this beautiful piece of music no matter how much relevance it has

  • God is Life, Life is in us -> Bach wrote - Life wrote - God wrote.

  • @kmg666

Bach wrote this piece, end of story.

  • @arash505 I know ;) I was just kidding.

  • THIS IS NOT GOD. This is arguably the most beautiful piece of music ever written, written by the musical genius Johann Sebastian Bach, who deserves full credit and praise for this work. I've got no problem with people worshipping god, just don't credit his for writing this.

  • @Oscarg936 It's strange when people try to argue with the author himself about his own inspiration. Bach who worshiped God wrote this beautiful piece of music, you who deny Him did not. The question is why you don’t write something about the beauty of a monkey becoming a human?

  • @djkostya76 because there is little beauty in that, it is simple evolution and has little or no relevance to this piece of music, i think Oscar makes a valid point, this piece was written for man by man and should be enjoyed without the need to praise someone other than the true author of the piece.

  • Gorgeous.

  • Beautiful! I'm learning to play this on piano right now, and by golly it is the hardest thing I've ever done! To make it sound as good as this... it's just outstanding! Fantastic!

  • Perfectly played with the GREAT rythm !

  • For Christmas this year, I am listening to this.

  • one of the few pieces of art that brings me to tears, and perhaps the only that brings me to tears every single time.

  • it's absolutely fantastic

  • Good performance!

  • Beautifully played, the marvellous nature of BACH's Music is reflected.......

  • I got introduced to this song by the End of Evangelion; the most incomprehensable movie ever.

  • @seladnas2007 It's the arrangement by Dame Myra Hess. I agree, though, a sublime rendition.

  • beautiful

  • Just great performance :)

  • Beautiful.Thank you very much.God bless you.

  • This is a blessing from God, brought to us through Bach.

  • @ClassicalMusic2010 This is a blessing of Bach, brought to us by Bach

  • @ClassicalMusic2010

It's just music... please keep fiction out of it.

  • Very Good !

  • Tres , Tres Beau j'adore bravo

  • Absolutely amazing. I hear pieces like this and I can hardly wait until I am at this level of ability. So inspiring, so peaceful and relaxing too. Truly a dream to play I bet

I think Dame Myra would have been quite pleased with your performance.

    Great!!

  • very moving!

  • wonderful...

  • OMG! This is the best interpretation I've heard so far. I absolutely love it.

    Like! Favorite! Save!

I should have watched this earlier to improve my quartet performance.

Joel, thank you so much for sharing!

  • Beautifully played.

  • Absolutely beautiful! It's so fluid, it's almost as if the music is floating out of the piano! In my opinion, the suspensions in the treble add to the "floating" effect... sure, Bach may not have meant them to be there, but JOEL HASTINGS (or Myra Hess... but you know what I mean lol) did... and it makes it a touch more modern and SINCERE (I'm NOT saying that I don't think that Bach is sincere... I mean it's sincerely "from" YOU, Mr. Hastings). Another awesome, heart-felt interpretation!

  • As far as I'm concerned the "floating" should be present at Bach. The fortepianos had a little sustain due to the dampers which weren't as accurate as in the modern pianos. A modern piano needs a modern interpretation of Bach...

I totally agree with your comment...

    Have anice day!

  • 5 Stars. My only complaint is that I wish the overall volume of this video was louder.

  • nice

  • I feel he dramatized the piece too much.

While it is a beautiful arrangement, the piece (in my opinion) was meant for less suspensions in the treble clef.

The bass was executed perfectly, every note was very gentle and yet still commanded a presence. I will admit, he does seamlessly weave in the melody to create a less repetitious feel.

  • A truly warm, sensitive interpretation of one of the finest transcriptions of this Bach composition. It is fully understandable after hearing Joel's performance why the Dame Myra Hess' transcription is so world known.

  • Rarely have I heard this piece played so tunefully.

Mr Hasting's beautiful bringing out of the main melody is a major accomplishment in this performance.

But most unique about Mr Hasting's interpretation

is something else: I have always been a bit bothered by Bach's too numerous and to me, excessive, melody repetitions in this piece. But you know what? Mr. Hasting's unusual take on the piece makes the

    repetitions go completely UNNOTICED.

    Bravo!
