Macs are wonderful. I love doing my Graphics/Video work on a Mac, but there is only one little thing keeping me away. Games. Yeah, herp derp. I'm a huge PC gamer and I love ripping my PC apart and adding new shit etc. it just interests me. But that's the only thing keeping me back.
I would love to have a secondary computer that's a Mac, but my iPhone and iPad do a job of my portable stuff, and I never need a powerful computer on the go.

Well, the point of the ads is that for everything a Mac has, there is another computer on the market that has the same components for a lower price. The point this ad is supposed to be making is that for 1000 dollars, you can get the features of an apple computer with a higher price tag -- albeit, with better construction and a slightly faster OS (although, Win7 is a lot better with the speed issues).
That isnt a 15 its a 17in. Another thing is your already showing a bias Mac fanboy. Also just becuase there is a $2000 limit doesn't mean she wants to spend it all because if you can find something cheaper thats better you will get that. Movie maker is crap but for a film maker windows has so many better programs you can buy to use if shes that serious. With the processors also you just claim fast. Another thing is Intel makes Mac processors cuz Mac sucked. They had BSOD issues with it.

I tell people to use what they like. I'm into PCs and I do Interactive Media for a living (and get paid well). I won't knock Mac users nor PC users. The one thing that I will say is TRUTH is that the brands are meaningless now. Whatever you can do on a Mac you can do on a PC. So buy what you like more and what you're comfortable with. If I wanted to be a film maker, then I wouldn't bother with Movie Maker or iMovie. That's for the kid making home movies, not a professional.

NO ONE should be a film maker on a PC. The standard is Final Cut, which is Mac only. If you are editing on a PC, you should find yourself a new career. Their is no reason to not get a Mac if your budget is $2000.

There is no reason why you shouldn't buy a Mac if you have that kind of money to blow on a computer. Over 90% of computer $1000 or GREATER, are Macs. i like my dell studio xps 16 laptop i recently bought. its 1300 bucks and i use programs cakewalk music creator, audacity, sony vegas pro, adobe photoshop CS4. its a good mac substitute. its also a powerful gaming machine. but this person went the cheap way and got a crappy machine. if i were in that situation i would buy a macbook at least since those are 1200 bucks. i have 6 gigs of ram on my laptop and i have an old built machine with 2 gigs of ram and windows 7 ultimate runs well.
The thing is that you turned that 1300 dollar laptop into a 1600+ dollar laptop, since you bought all of those programs. When you could have gotten a Mac with almost all of those program (excluding photoshop) for 1000 bucks.
If your gamer, more power to you, go with your pc with 6 gigs of ram.
While I get a more cost effective computer, with a (legal) copy of OS X running on it.

i had the programs before and some are torrented. the only things i bought legally were games and sony vegas. Photoshop CS4 and after effects were torrented. but i am a gamer and that is the big decision between mac and PC. macs dont have that many games and PCs have better hardware to run it. Plus if i really cared i could put OSX on my PC by encoding the files readable to a PC and make it a mac. its been done. but i like windows 7 and plus i have linux, ubuntu, windows xp as my other OS.

Good Lord, I could not imagine spending $2,000 on a Windows machine! WOW! And it wasn't even very nice looking! I like Apple's contemporary look, vs. PC's "trendy" (trashy) look. And I hate having to use the Vista laptops at school because I can't FIND anything! Very cluttered!
If MS gives me a $1000 to buy a laptop I want, I go to any PC store, buy any HP I can for as close to that amount I can, get laptop and a money (hey, it's free!). After shooting finishes, I'm off back to the store to return it (or selling on ebay :) get my 1k back, and off to Apple Store to get my shiny new MacBook :)

I study media production AND do "film making" (not in movie maker, lol) and I use a refurb mac I purchased directly from apple for only 1500; and it smokes any other Vaio, HP, Dell, etc laptop I've EVER done work with.

One could just as easily be an amateur film-maker with a PC. Something like Sony Vegas is a excellent capable easy to use video editing package for most amateur film-makers.
I find screen size all depends on what one defines as a 'laptop'.
15 inch is about the biggest in something I would really want to use on my lap and carry around in bag. Anything bigger IMO is a desktop replacement computer, and wasn't really designed with portability in mind.
For example machines with bigger than 15 inch screens tend to be very difficult or impossible to fully open and use in situations like on airline or train seat-back tables.
You forgot to mention that Final Cut Studio is $1000 on top of the Mac. If you buy a PC for the same price as a Mac, you'll get such good hardware that even running Vista, it'll outperform the Mac equivalent. For the price difference, you could buy the whole of Adobe Production Premium.

Professionals wont use movie maker or iMovie for that matter, because there is professional video editing software that is way better than movie maker or iMovie. Actually, in the commercials, they bring in retarded holes who don't know anything about the interior. They may say fast, but they don't know what they're talking about. It's scripted. And Mac has all the stuff they want without purchasing apps or downloading 3rd party apps.

Well, the point of the ads is that for everything a Mac has, there is another computer on the market that has the same components for a lower price. The point this ad is supposed to be making is that for 1000 dollars, you can get the features of an apple computer with a higher price tag -- albeit, with better construction and a slightly faster OS (although, Win7 is a lot better with the speed issues).

I tell people to use what they like. I'm into PCs and I do Interactive Media for a living (and get paid well). I won't knock Mac users nor PC users. The one thing that I will say is TRUTH is that the brands are meaningless now. Whatever you can do on a Mac you can do on a PC. So buy what you like more and what you're comfortable with. If I wanted to be a film maker, then I wouldn't bother with Movie Maker or iMovie. That's for the kid making home movies, not a professional.

NO ONE should be a film maker on a PC. The standard is Final Cut, which is Mac only. If you are editing on a PC, you should find yourself a new career. Their is no reason to not get a Mac if your budget is $2000.

i like my dell studio xps 16 laptop i recently bought. its 1300 bucks and i use programs cakewalk music creator, audacity, sony vegas pro, adobe photoshop CS4. its a good mac substitute. its also a powerful gaming machine. but this person went the cheap way and got a crappy machine. if i were in that situation i would buy a macbook at least since those are 1200 bucks. i have 6 gigs of ram on my laptop and i have an old built machine with 2 gigs of ram and windows 7 ultimate runs well.

The thing is that you turned that 1300 dollar laptop into a 1600+ dollar laptop, since you bought all of those programs. When you could have gotten a Mac with almost all of those program (excluding photoshop) for 1000 bucks.
If your gamer, more power to you, go with your pc with 6 gigs of ram.
While I get a more cost effective computer, with a (legal) copy of OS X running on it.
Thats also why I said that if you got a $1000+ to spend go with a Mac,its a better buy.

i had the programs before and some are torrented. the only things i bought legally were games and sony vegas. Photoshop CS4 and after effects were torrented. but i am a gamer and that is the big decision between mac and PC. macs dont have that many games and PCs have better hardware to run it. Plus if i really cared i could put OSX on my PC by encoding the files readable to a PC and make it a mac. its been done. but i like windows 7 and plus i have linux, ubuntu, windows xp as my other OS.

For gaming you can just use bootcamp, their problem solved, their should be no reason to not get a Mac with boot camp.

I'm a satisfied pc user, but I admit macs are good. The arguments of this guy are ludicrously weak [akin to "you're rubber, I'm glue], he could've done much better than that, he was blatantly being biased. His ignorance on film also was apparent, as in tv/broadcasting/film they use both macs AND pcs (albeit with expensive industry-grade software). It's really no big deal, pcs are for some people, and macs are for other people, end of story. If you're happy that's all that matters.

These are my thoughts about the video:-
She says she is 'open to any brand'. But then Microsoft has just bribed her with $2000 not buy a Mac.
One could just as easily be an amateur film-maker with a PC. Something like Sony Vegas is a excellent capable easy to use video editing package for most amateur film-makers.

i would in no way consider 15" to be a big screen. in fact that's among the smallest of laptop screen sizes.

I find screen size all depends on what one defines as a 'laptop'.
15 inch is about the biggest in something I would really want to use on my lap and carry around in bag. Anything bigger IMO is a desktop replacement computer, and wasn't really designed with portability in mind.
For example machines with bigger than 15 inch screens tend to be very difficult or impossible to fully open and use in situations like on airline or train seat-back tables.

You forgot to mention that Final Cut Studio is $1000 on top of the Mac. If you buy a PC for the same price as a Mac, you'll get such good hardware that even running Vista, it'll outperform the Mac equivalent. For the price difference, you could buy the whole of Adobe Production Premium.
