well, I want everybody know that I speak english so someone wants argue with me in english??.don't be stupids, english is the most language easiest over the world but I agree with the greengos, if someones is living in USA and he doesn't speak englihs well I suggest him learn english.
Multilingualism is an enriching experience, which makes people more intelligent, and understanding to the others' situations. Why do we have to make a choise? Can't we just learn both languages and enrich cultures?
This is a rough topic to talk about. As mexican, I would not like to learn chinesse just because we had 30 million chinesse people living in México. If they want to live in México it is ok for me. It does not bother me at all...But if you go to live to another country...you gotta learn their language, not the opposite !!!
@herrwolf1966 Its not that, the thing is that hispanics in the US dont want to learn english but they are not asking americans to learn spanish, the same with the example you made...the chinese wouldnt ask you to learn chinese but they wouldnt learn spanish though so they will comunicate to eachother........that means (for hispanics in the US) that its so unremarkable to comunicate to english speaking ppl there that they just dont care about learning it...that is what i undestand.
is no about stop speaking english is about being bilingual, is not the same thing i think people from the US are so afraid of losing their identity that they make only their language a way of "identity of culture" or somthing like that...i am bilingual and im from spain and that doesnt hurt hehehe.
on the other hand they are surrounded by spanish speaking countries and spanish speaking people living in their country...thats ridiculous, as somobody said above, i also think that people from the US refuse to laern spanish only because is one of the hardest language to learn ( not to say the hardest one).
Spanish is clarly discriminated in the US, or at least is the feeling we have. And thats maybe the reason why do spanish speakers refuse to speak english. Im surprised when I see people from the US learning languages such as french or italian instead of spanish when they will never speak those languages with anybody at least they are pretending to move to france or italy,
Why should we work for scum capitalist pigs who off shore our jobs to chink land and import millions of illegal scabs to grind down our wages? the rich are useless and worthless they serve no purpose at all. the rich are a waste of resources.
Many trolls up here have already made the point clear: the number of Hispanics is increasing in America, so everyone in the US should learn Spanish. That's just the way the think. Good luck changing their minds. I somtimes feel sorry for liberals. They really are ruining their own children's future. They just don't get. Oh well, whatever.
Americans, you better educate people to speak english, otherwise they will start claiming independence because of their lenguage as it happens in Spain.
There're so many ethnic groups in the US, for God's sakes. But hey if you don't speak Spanish, some idiots are going to label you a racist. This is so lame. I'm a busy ASIAN American, and I'm not interested in learning Spanish. Most Spanish speaking countries are just in a horrible shape right now. That's precisely the same reason that some white people in the US are not interested in learning Spanish.
Florida's flag, red and white, was the ancient flag of Spanish Army.
All Texas, Florida,Louisiana. New Mexico,California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah were spanish teeritories during 300 years. Let the people speak spanish there, is the natural languaje of the people there
@Shleissen and English is lol, Spanish has always been spoken in the U.S, its never going away. In the Netherlands, the lingua franca is dutch, but the population at least speaks 4 languages tops, a lot of European countries do. Spain's lingua franca is Spanish, while having other de facto languages like Basque, Catalan, Aragones, Galician.
As a student of Linguistics I believe that the best way of ballancing this situation is that both Spanish-speaking immigrants and native English speakers learn both languages. Most of you must know that before Americans invated the southern lands that were before of Mexican dominion people of these lands spoke Spanish, so things haven't changed. USA was never a one language country. Get over it!!!
@Shleissen ...extinction or near-extinction (think of Cornish, Irish Gaelic, Scots, all the Algonquan languages such as Navajo and Apache, all the Inuit languages like Inuktitut). I just don't think it would kill us, as native English speakers, to appreciate & tolerate diversity, instead of justifying the Europeans' belief that we are racist by demanding everyone in our country conform to our racially-based standard.
@Shleissen Calm down bro, it's just the Internet. No need to write me four huge paragraphs, although I will admit they were nicely written.
It is my belief that we should embrace multiculturalism in the modern world. Have you ever heard the prediction that in the future, the only languages left will be English and Chinese? It's exaggerated, of course, but it's well-documented that bigger languages trample and extinguish smaller ones. English has already driven entire language families to
@Shleissen Well as we all know, Germany has always believed in the supremacy of their own culture. -_-
However, America is unlike Germany in that we have no culture, no language, and no history aside from what has been brought here. It's only logical that the country of immigrants should be tolerant of immigrants. Are you from here?
The Americans are pathetic. They critiquize to Hispanics of America and Spain for our accent when they don't know speak Spanish, nothing!!! Americans: SPANISH WILL BE AGAIN THE FUTURE LANGUAGE! Your stupid English is a lie and is the language of vain people. I'd rather be poor and honest to rich and vain. The Anglo-Saxons are pathetic. Latinos from America and Europe (Spain, Portugal, France and Italy) are better than you! ¡VIVAN LOS HISPANOS!
Lol, you know why Spanish is spoken more in those parts of the U.S.?, because they used to be Spanish colonies. So in a way, it's part of their heritage, even if they were partially bought...
While living in Spain I learned to speak Spanish via self taught. Why? Because I did not expect them to learn English since Spanish is their native language, nor expect them to learn English for my benifit. Also out of respect to them, as well as to be able to communicate how they do. By learning Spanish it also benifit me so that things would not be lost in translation as well for them.
Omfg that is so typical, "It's very inconvenient not being able to ask people for directions" Why don't you fucking learn their language then, instead of expecting them to learn yours?? Laws mandating English as the only language are racist and completely defeat the purpose of America as an immigrant nation.
Why should there only be one language? In many parts of the world people learn up to 4,5 languages. America's public schools fail because they start teaching students foreign languages in high school, when they should really start absorbing new languages from a younger age.
Just because the majority of people who formed the USA spoke English does not mean that everyone should for the rest of time here in the USA. Ben Franklin, one of our founding fathers, was the ambassador for France. He spoke fluent French. He himself would be angry at this debate. America is not made up of only English (From England/ Great Britain) but of EVERY CULTURE. I was born and raised in the US. My family only speaks English. BUT, I speak mostly Spanish. Or Portuguese. Or French.
I firmly believe that we should all speak the same language. I wouldn't mind which one. If I had to learn chinese, italian or czec I would. The world would be a much better place.
I am of the opinion that diversity is good, however if a family moves to a country to try to better their lives they *must* learn the native language in that country. It just seems fundamentally dishonest to only speak your own language and not the native language while reaping the benefits of living in a developed, prosperous nation.
I believe Americans need to realize that spanish is part of America. it has been here longer than English and on the other hand being bilingual is actually an advantage especially when spanish is being a lead language in business.
gringo or american i don't understand i speak german and have french nacionality i but for the usa i'm latino o hispano i think hispano live in hispania named in latin for to spain latin is a lenguage spoken in lacio italy ego sum keneth primun vivere deinde philosofare cogito ergo sum mon alter ego es tu this is latin spanish french italian portugues when people ask me where are u from i anwser from france i live in usa and i don;t like people tell me gringo usa dosn't respect to their people
WTF!!! you american people have to be fucking kidding me, you don't appreciate the rich benefit of a diverse country, because you prefer the absurd and full of hatred and discriminating NATIONALISM!. What do you think that happens in Canada, for instance, or in Spain? sometimes, we may became a little irrational, when it is about distinctions.
@lucho93062 There's diversity in Spain? You want to see some real diversity, come to the US. You're clearly an idiotic blind hater. There're a lot more ethnic groups in the US than any other country around the world. Unless you have the data to prove me wrong on this one, dumb ass.
@lucho93062 I live in California, USA. I want to assure that there are many white people that are taking language lessons. They are not racist.
If you want to live in the US, you should know how to speak English. Asking immigrants to learn the language that's used in the US is NOT unreasonable if they want to live in the US.
When the north.americans had Florida in 1821 (from Spain) we were there 300 years (see the patriot, the film of mel gibson). So let the people talk in spanish if they want. (but it would be better if they know english too, of course). Goodbye from spain
@lucho93062 Your two examples, Canada and Spain, do not work at all.
1.) If someone moves to Canada and decides not to learn English, you really think that Canadian people will welcome him?
2.) If an immigrant moves to Spain, and he decides not to learn Spanish, how will that make you feel?
You're clearly mad at the fact that Americans look down on Spanish. You don't care about racism issues in the US. There might be plenty of racism issues in Spain!
@lucho93062 um... I've lived in Spain. They all speak Spanish. In Spain, most people think learning a new language is learning Valenciano vs. Castellano.
Not learning English, is only limiting your potentials to advance in the USA. Nothing wrong with speaking spanish, but such people will not be able to advance their life style to better living.
The first european language in continental USA was spanish. Spaniards with Ponce de León arrived to the Florida coast in 1513 (94 years before than english: Jamestown, 1607)
The first city in USA was St. Augustine (1565), founded by spaniards
70% of actual USA was a part of Spanish Empire (look up information about NEW SPAIN)
Look at the names of a lot of cities and states, there are in spanish: Florida, Texas, California, Nevada, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Albuquerque...
i think both americans and latin americans in the U.S. should be bilingual .. the U.S. is an adaptable country and should adapt to the culture of today and plus , knowing more than one language gives you more opportunities (;
4 Most important books in World: The Bible (First book impressed - on German Language - and best selled), the Koran (the holy book in Islam, Arab), El Quijote (By Miguel de Servantes - Spanish Language), and Moral Social (By Eugenio Maria de Hostos. And where's Hamlet???? Where's Edgard Allan Poe??? We must be proud because our language is rich on culture and very importan. And perhaps in future could be the first business language.
We must be proud about our native language (Spanish). Spanish is the only language that is very rich on words, and literature. 4 of the MOST IMPORTANT BOOKS IN WORLD have been written in Spanish. Don Quijote - by Miguel de Servantes -, and Social Morality - by Eugenio Maria de Hostos. The others two are the Bible (first book impressed in German and most selled)), and The Koran.
@Sdiurax every people who speak spanish are hispanics.... Don't matter if you're german (there's hispanics germans), hispanic jewish (sefardis), philipinians.... The Spanish is very important, because it's a solid language. We must be ready about everything could do in future. If we can learn another language, don't care if it's french, or spanish, or portuguese.... It's very important learn a most spoke language.
@Sdiurax So are Black American,Asian Americans, and Mexican Americans Anglo?
Yes or No?
Cause I'm yet to hear a black, asian,or mexican american calling themselves Anglo-Saxons.
White Anglos do however do call themselves that.
I know the difference between cultural terms and racial terms and most Mexicans are culturally MESTIZO or how it's called in Mexico "Mestizaje" NOT Hispanic.
The U.S. definition of Hispanic never existed until the 70's during the Nixon administration.
@1coolguysuper Hispanic means the people who talk Spanish... There's many cultures - puerto ricans, mexicans, spaniards (most of them), jewish (zefardi dialect), panamenian, cubans, and more....
@1coolguysuper Puerto Rico is not part of US... It's something difficult about explaing.... It's a territory of US - yes - , the people was born here are american civilians - yes -, but there's a confilict about this.... For that reason we're Hispanics.... But... I don't know if about the English is different about terms.... Because the word hispanic, means all people who speak in Spanish.... Perhaps about your culture it isn't... But the principles of Spanish it's established....
@antifrituras People who speak Spanish are Hispanophone NOT Hispanic. People who speak English are Anglophone,NOT Anglos since blacks,asians,Mexican-Americans etc also speak English, but they're not Anglo-Saxons.
Hispanophnone and Hispanic are two different terms.
The U.S. definition of "Hispanic" was first introduce in the 70's during the Richard Nixon administration, but before that, NO ONE called themselves "Hispanic".
I'm Mexican-American and I'm NOT Hispanic and neither are you.
@1coolguysuper No... Well, it's the same... One Question: You was born in Mexico or in US??? Or both places???? ... You're about mexican ascendance... But you're not Mexican-American.... I'm American civilian living in Puerto Rico, and I'm Hispanic. Hispanophones it's like another form to say hispanic.
@antifrituras I was born in the U.S.,I identify as a U.S. American and racially as mixed, but NOT hispanic, I don't identify as hispanic.
So,if you say that one is hispanic because they speak spanish or come from a spanish speaking country, then I guess I'm Anglo-Saxon,after all I speak english and I'm from a english speaking country, right?
NO!!
Hispanophone is someone who speaks spanish.
Hispanics are from H I S P A N I A !! aka Spain/Espana.
@1coolguysuper Yes... And I agree that - you don't know speak Spanish, just you only speak English, and you're an Anglo-Saxon with hispanic family... So, you're not Hispanic.... Latins means peoples who speak a latin language - most of Frenchs, most of Spaniards, most of Puerto Ricans.... There's many people with Mexican ascendance living in US that say they're latins.... That's wrong.... I know that point. And I agree. But I'm right Hispanic - ACTUALLY - means people who speak Spanish.
@antifrituras I never said I don't speak Spanish. I speak both languages.
I'm anglophone and hispanphone, with means I speak English and Spanish.
people that speak spanish are hispanphone NOT Hispanic, Hispanicas are from HISPANIA,which is today SPAIN. Are you from Spain? NO,you are just Puerto Rican.
Mexicans in Mexico don't call themselves Hispanos/Hispanic.
Hispanic in the U.S. has a different meaning to the actual definition, why? cause most people in "Latin" America are Natives.
@1coolguysuper that's a wrong term about latin.... French is latin, Spanish is latin, Italian is latin, portuguese is latin (so Brazillians are latins). Hispanic is the word that describes the people who speak Spanish.
@1coolguysuper If you wanna know the truth check on "Real Academia de La Lengua Espanola!!!..... If in English have issues about this, because, the English don't have a 'real academy', that's their problem. Don't tell me if that's absolute. Everything is relative and Spanish have solved those issues about culture.... "No... The Philipines speaks wrong English..." "The Jamaicans offences our language"... Sorry... But, You're talking about primitive facts...
@antifrituras So you would let Spain determine your cultural identity? Spain is not your ruler, the U.S. is,and the U.S. defines Hispanic the same way Spain does, but is it right?
In Mexico, they don't go by Spain or the U.S.'s definition of the word.
Hispanic in Mexico is only used in text books referring to Spaniards or when Mexico was ruled by Spain(HispanoAmerica),but Mexico is no longer ruled by Spain.
Mexican identity is known as 'mestizaje", NOT hispanic.
@1coolguysuper Each country have a culture, have different things about their languages... It's a pitty that many people in US who speak Spanish don't know that they must be proud about their native language (Spanish). One of the most important books in World, there's two written in Spanis (El Quijote - by Miguel de Servantes, and Morality and Social - By Eugenio Maria de Hostos)... The others are The Bible and The Koran... And where's Hamlet??? We must be proud, because we're hispanics.
@1coolguysuper I'm Puerto Rican and I'm glad of it..... I'm not white, I'm proud about I'm. I don't care the races. Races sucks... "Ethnic groups" - that's discrimination. AND. I'm just telling about the Real Academy established. And I'm not it isn't 100% right. But the point is join all countries... Hispanics...
@antifriturasYou also know that the Spanish tend to be a divided people in terms of ethnic background. The Spanish in the North and more midland parts of the country tend to be very white and European looking. The Basques for example are closely related to the inhabitants of the British isles and look very similar. However the Southern Spanish have genetic traces to the North African Moors. During the Reconquista, it took 400 years for the Northern Spanish to route the Moors from the Peninsula.
Who's white??? The caucasians are white??? Oh... hohoho... These people are not white. Are mixed with other races such like us. I' m black and never I need to hide that. Because I'm proud such as I'm.
@1coolguysuper I'm proud be black. And I said that. You're just a TROLL. Get out. Just because I said the people who speak spanish are Hispanics - that's something established the Real Academy. And you offers poor points. The HISPANICS - everyone who speak Spanish - must be proud because we're rich on culture, on words, on diversity. Don't forget that: The Spanish don't need to envy the English. Two most important books in world have bent written in Spanish.
Hispanic is a cultural heritage, and mestizo is a racial and a cultural term.
The Mexican Mestizo identity was constructed as the base of the modern Mexican national identity, through a process of cultural synthesis referred to as "Mestizaje",NOT Hispanic or Indigenous.
By only identifying as "hispanic" one denies it's other half, and the native half actually has more influence in Modern day Mexico then it's hispanic (Spanish) side.
@1coolguysuper You're a confused little puppy. How can someone be a black puerto rican born in the USA? Can you be a Texan if you are born in New York? Can you be a mexican if you are born in the USA? Your head is messed up. All person born in the USA from Cuban, Dominican, Puerto Rican, Peruvian, Argentinian, Brazilian ancestry are Americans of Latin heritage. Christina Milian is a Latina born in USA of Cuban ancestry. Zoe Saldana is a Latina born in USA of Puerto Rican/Dominican ancestry.
@javie2 Anyone born in the U.S. is a U.S. American.
So then why are they called "Hispanic" or "Latino" if Hispanics/Hispanos are from Hispania which is today Spain and Portugal, and the latins were a ancient Italian tribe that later became the Roman Empire.
Christina Milian and Zoe Saldana are just black U.S. Americans
How are they "Latinas" or "Hispanic"? Why are you giving them a white european label?
@1coolguysuper Then again... you lived in a parallel world. Please join the rest of humanity. Latinos of dark skin like Alex Rodriguez are Latinos. Latin culture is a total different culture that comes from Latin-America, Not from the USA. And African-american is an American culture born in the USA.
Their origins are from AFRICA!! NOT EUROPE/HISPANIA!!
So are Black U.S. american British?
I mean, they after all speak english and were born in the U.S.,a country that was once ruled by Britain just like how Spain ruled Puerto Rico,DR,and Cuba.
Also PR is ruled under the U.S., so that would make Puerto Ricans U.S. Americans.
@1coolguysuper Comparing Anglo societies (i.e. USA and Canada) with Latin societies (i.e. Latin America) is like comparing China with Germany. That's why you're confused. You cannot compare apples with oranges. They're fundamentally different. I was with some Peruvians friends reading your comments and you really made us laugh with your humor. Having been all over Latin America, I can see that you know nothing about Latin culture or Latin countries.
The reason why you can't compare China and Germany is because they are RACIALLY different, and of course I don't need to get into the cultural differences.
The Latins (the ancient italic tribe) and Anglos are both RACIALLY caucasian.
Anglo is a Late Latin prefix used to denote English.
The word is derived from Anglia, the Latin name for England.
@1coolguysuper No. Latin means the people who speak a LATIN LANGUAGE. There's africans speaking Italian, there's orthodox jews speaking Spanish.... There's Canadians speaking French.... There's Brazilians speaking Portuguese. And that term is stablished by many academies of languages... One question: Why in English they not have a real academy??? Just they have a few organizations who think that the only correct language is the british language???
@antifrituras The "Latin" label is mostly put on non-white people.
Somethings out of ignorance or self-hatred.
The Latins were a ancient Italian tribe that later became the Roman Empire, and they were EUROPEAN.
You are NOT Latin simply cause you speak a broken Latin language.
Can I ask you something, are you white? Cause I mostly hear this argument from non-whites who out of ignorance or self-hatred use these European terms.
@1coolguysuper First, I'm just saying that Real Academy of Spanish Language stablished so.... Now... My greatGrandFather was a German inmigrant who came in Puerto Rico, and he married with my greatGrandma' - a native Puerto Rican.... Now.... I'm black and I'm proud of it. In my country there's everything, and the word LATIN means people who speak a latin language - Lengua Latina. Spanish, French, Italian... One question: In Italy all of people there are white?? Oh, and in US???
@1coolguysuper I'm living with a country because we have a different culture, a different language. Now, we have a issue about the 'commonwealth' between US Congress and Puerto Rico - it doesn't exist. But that doesn't means Puerto Rico not a country... Is a country because we have our own culture our own language.... And our own land - by US congress - there's the issue. But 'Latino" is stablished by the Real Academy of Spanish Language like this. Your arguments 're very old
@1coolguysuper Ok.... Now I see your point.... At my case I'm LatinAmerican, because I speak a Latin Language (Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian...). Yes... Your argument is correct, but, it's an old meaning.... Now nobody uses these facts, and the Real Academy of Spanish Language have bring a new meaning about language - and word Hispanic - people who speak Spanish. Now... It's for exmp, INDIANS.... THE NATIVE AMERICANS ARE DOESN'T COME FROM INDIA... And that's correct.
@antifrituras hmmm i have the same case that you but my father is german but i was born in peru my daugther in usa then i'm latino and my daugther is gringa or american i don't understand i speak german and have french nacionality i but for the usa i'm latino o hispano i think hispano live in hispania name in latin for to spain latin is a lenguage spoken in lacio ego sum keneth primun vivere deinde philosofare cogito ergo sum mon alter ego es tu this is latin spanish french etc is not latin
@1coolguysuper The meaning of what is a Latin and a Hispanic have evolve to mean a person with relation to the languages , i don't deny that before the terms was used to identify your heritage but like i said it has evolve, you can see that today's nation accept it this way because of the creation of the Latin Union that includes every country that carries elements of the Latin culture.
The vast majority of 'illegals" that come to the U.S. are natives, and by calling them Hispanic you are telling them that they are not allowed to identify as Native, since "hispanic" and "latino" are both European terms, and by letting that happen, one is promoting white supremacy.
If you are not Caucasian and call yourselves hispanic or latino,it just shows that you want to be white, since both terms are european terms.
@1coolguysuper How is it wrong ? the meaning of words regularly change with time. Now the classification of a group of people can with no doubt have those effects, "History is written by the victor" after all and i guess the influence of the "culture of powers" might be play a part in the new meaning of those terms but like i said i don't think the meaning of the word is still related to heritage but to the language that's my whole point.
@1coolguysuper You live in the 21 century. Hispanic and Latin are terms that is used in Latin-America. By your comments I can say that you have no idea what Latin America is like. Latin-America was created by immigrants from all over the world. Sorry to burst your bubble.
@jay1jayf Hispanic is a cultural meaning - people who speak Spanish - just that. There's few Germans who speak Spanish... there's jewish in Spain speaks an ancient Spanish (Sefardi language).... There's many people that speak Spanish. Hillsong - christian rock band - speak Spanish.
If in US teached you that you're Mexico-American, and the caucasian are natives, that's your point.... But that's not established on nothing. Spanish is one of few languages that have an academy. In English there's not - just a few groups that claims the only way that speaks correctly English is in 'England'. In Spanish there's not problem thanks for this term (Hispanic). And they add new word, and don't try to remove.
@antifrituras Huh... That's racists suckers fascists who they're more Spaniards than others. But in US the Government have a fucking question on Census: Ethnic group - yellow, white, chineese, others, african, black.... wtf??? Is the only government who have a racist census an classify the people about aspect. Why the US government must know how many races are??? If everyone of us are humans, and are civilians in US....
That's your own opinion. But I'm trying to say about the Real Academy of Spanish Language established. This academy establishis what's fine or what's wrong, or what word can be added to the dictionary without conflicts of culture of the HISPANIC countries. And then... Spain is not only Hispania... There's Galicia, Navarra, Catalu~a (they speaks Catalan not Spanish). But i agree 100% about your point. But that term could change in future....
@1coolguysuper Hispanics are every people speak spanish check the Real Academy of Spanish Language and look for Hispanic..... Write Real Academia Espanola - select Diccionario de la Real, and look for search 'hispano', and there you'll have the answer hispano-.
(De hispano).
1. elem. compos. Significa 'español'. Hispanófilo, hispanoamericano.
@antifrituras We are not under Spain's rule you know,Spain has NO authority to label us in any way.
This is exactly what the Anglos tried to do with the Natives here in the U.S. by telling them that they were "Anglo-Saxons",but of course the Natives didn't buy it.
I understand why Puerto Ricans want to identify as "hispanic", is cause Puerto Rico is colonized with no actual culture.
Puerto Rico don't have a culture, but Mexico does, and that is why Mexicans don't don't identify as "hispano".
it is not at all .but what people dont understand .is .people living here on the u.s at least we as hispanics.or l;atinos are required to do so..same thing as if gringos are required if they were living in mexico ..but as a tourists everyone can get away with that because .you are basically visiting.
@bengativo6 I see what you mean but must of these spanish speaking cities is mostly just Miami.
Here in San Antonio,Texas were it's 60% "hispanic" (I hate using that term),mainly Mexican and central American, you normally don't here spanish being spoken in public places like the way you see in these video.
Also, there are over a million gringos living in mexico and the vast majority don't speak a lick of spanish.
@1coolguysuper im hispanic too .and speak english and spanish both perfectly .and the term hispanic is not offensive.because an ignorant person would say .oh see that mexican right there.ok hold on how can anyone say that person is mexican or from guatemala el salvador.so the right term is for all us.hispanics.or latino.i hate to say this .but my mother in law when we are at a restaurant she asks for anything in spanish.and that is just not right, not because i hide my roots.but b it is the u.s.a
@bengativo6 The correct terms would be Mestizo, caucasian,or native.
Hispanics are the spaniards from Spain (Hispania) unless you are from Spain, no one is hispanic.
Most mexicans and Central Americans are Mestizo.
Now, if the immigrants were white spaniards, there wouldn't be many paranoid gringos, and what's even more strange is that no one is talking about the asians that don't speak english.
@1coolguysuper man did you know nowadays the forms of execution is more fancy and people suffer less for a short period.remember the inquisition was far gone like a long time ago my man, mestizo is a mixture of the spanish blood with an indian or native.like aztecs or mayas.dude wake uo this is 2011 where we are given the term like it or not.hispanic.doesnt mean that you are from spain.and i think you are wrong.because there is white people livin on the capital of mexico which isnt american ..
@1coolguysuper I'm sorry to correct you but... Spaniards are the people from Spain. People that come from countries once conquered by Spain are called Hispanics, because their motherland is Hispania the motherland's synonym of Spain. Yet, Mestizos are only those Latin-Americans, whereas Hispanic englobe both Spaniards and Latin-Americans.

This is a rough topic to talk about. As mexican, I would not like to learn chinesse just because we had 30 million chinesse people living in México. If they want to live in México it is ok for me. It does not bother me at all...But if you go to live to another country...you gotta learn their language, not the opposite !!!
herrwolf1966 1 week ago
@herrwolf1966 Its not that, the thing is that hispanics in the US dont want to learn english but they are not asking americans to learn spanish, the same with the example you made...the chinese wouldnt ask you to learn chinese but they wouldnt learn spanish though so they will comunicate to eachother........that means (for hispanics in the US) that its so unremarkable to comunicate to english speaking ppl there that they just dont care about learning it...that is what i undestand.

inolvidablebyam 1 week ago
is no about stop speaking english is about being bilingual, is not the same thing i think people from the US are so afraid of losing their identity that they make only their language a way of "identity of culture" or somthing like that...i am bilingual and im from spain and that doesnt hurt hehehe.

on the other hand they are surrounded by spanish speaking countries and spanish speaking people living in their country...thats ridiculous, as somobody said above, i also think that people from the US refuse to laern spanish only because is one of the hardest language to learn ( not to say the hardest one).

Meinemuttet 1 month ago

English has already driven entire language families to
ThisHasBeenAlex 1 month ago
@Shleissen Well as we all know, Germany has always believed in the supremacy of their own culture. -_-
However, America is unlike Germany in that we have no culture, no language, and no history aside from what has been brought here. It's only logical that the country of immigrants should be tolerant of immigrants. Are you from here?

While living in Spain I learned to speak Spanish via self taught. Why? Because I did not expect them to learn English since Spanish is their native language, nor expect them to learn English for my benifit. Also out of respect to them, as well as to be able to communicate how they do. By learning Spanish it also benifit me so that things would not be lost in translation as well for them.
stephen52100 1 month ago
Omfg that is so typical, "It's very inconvenient not being able to ask people for directions" Why don't you fucking learn their language then, instead of expecting them to learn yours?? Just because the majority of people who formed the USA spoke English does not mean that everyone should for the rest of time here in the USA. Ben Franklin, one of our founding fathers, was the ambassador for France. He spoke fluent French. He himself would be angry at this debate. I am of the opinion that diversity is good, however if a family moves to a country to try to better their lives they *must* learn the native language in that country.

If we can learn another language, don't care if it's french, or spanish, or portuguese.... It's very important learn a most spoke language.
antifrituras 3 months ago
@Sdiurax So are Black American,Asian Americans, and Mexican Americans Anglo?
Yes or No?
Cause I'm yet to hear a black, asian,or mexican american calling themselves Anglo-Saxons.
White Anglos do however do call themselves that.
I know the difference between cultural terms and racial terms and most Mexicans are culturally MESTIZO or how it's called in Mexico "Mestizaje" NOT Hispanic.
The U.S. definition of Hispanic never existed until the 70's during the Nixon administration.
1coolguysuper 3 months ago
@1coolguysuper Hispanic means the people who talk Spanish... There's many cultures - puerto ricans, mexicans, spaniards (most of them), jewish (zefardi dialect), panamenian, cubans, and more....
antifrituras 3 months ago
@antifrituras That definition of Hispanic was first introduce in the 70's during the Richard Nixon administration. That is completely wrong.
Hispanic comes from Hispania, ancient Spain just how British comes from ancient Britain ( Britannia).
So if all spanish speaking people are "hispanic" then all english speaking people ( including you and me) are British.
Since Puerto Rico is technically part of the U.S., that would make Puerto Ricans British.
1coolguysuper 3 months ago
@1coolguysuper Puerto Rico is not part of US... It's something difficult about explaing.... It's a territory of US - yes - , the people was born here are american civilians - yes -, but there's a confilict about this.... For that reason we're Hispanics.... But... I don't know if about the English is different about terms.... Because the word hispanic, means all people who speak in Spanish.... Perhaps about your culture it isn't... But the principles of Spanish it's established....
antifrituras 3 months ago
@antifrituras People who speak Spanish are Hispanophone NOT Hispanic. People who speak English are Anglophone,NOT Anglos since blacks,asians,Mexican-Americans etc also speak English, but they're not Anglo-Saxons.
Hispanophnone and Hispanic are two different terms.
The U.S. definition of "Hispanic" was first introduce in the 70's during the Richard Nixon administration, but before that, NO ONE called themselves "Hispanic".
I'm Mexican-American and I'm NOT Hispanic and neither are you.
1coolguysuper 3 months ago
@1coolguysuper No... Well, it's the same... One Question: You was born in Mexico or in US??? Or both places???? ... You're about mexican ascendance... But you're not Mexican-American.... I'm American civilian living in Puerto Rico, and I'm Hispanic. Hispanophones it's like another form to say hispanic.
Hispano-Parlantes, That it means, right?
antifrituras 3 months ago
@antifrituras I was born in the U.S.,I identify as a U.S. American and racially as mixed, but NOT hispanic, I don't identify as hispanic.
So,if you say that one is hispanic because they speak spanish or come from a spanish speaking country, then I guess I'm Anglo-Saxon,after all I speak english and I'm from a english speaking country, right?
NO!!
Hispanophone is someone who speaks spanish.
Hispanics are from H I S P A N I A !! aka Spain/Espana.
Are you from Spain?
1coolguysuper 3 months ago
@1coolguysuper Yes... And I agree that - you don't know speak Spanish, just you only speak English, and you're an Anglo-Saxon with hispanic family... So, you're not Hispanic.... Latins means peoples who speak a latin language - most of Frenchs, most of Spaniards, most of Puerto Ricans.... There's many people with Mexican ascendance living in US that say they're latins.... That's wrong.... I know that point. And I agree. But I'm right Hispanic - ACTUALLY - means people who speak Spanish.
antifrituras 3 months ago
@antifrituras I never said I don't speak Spanish. I speak both languages.

Hispanic is the word that describes the people who speak Spanish.
antifrituras 3 months ago
@antifrituras Also, the Latins were a ancient Italic ( Italian) tribe, unless you are that tribe, you are NOT Latin.
Tell me,do you consider Mexicans in Mexico to be "hispanic' even though they rejected it since they have their own culture?
1coolguysuper 3 months ago
@1coolguysuper If you wanna know the truth check on "Real Academia de La Lengua Espanola!!!..... If in English have issues about this, because, the English don't have a 'real academy', that's their problem. Don't tell me if that's absolute. Everything is relative and Spanish have solved those issues about culture.... "No... The Philipines speaks wrong English..." "The Jamaicans offences our language"... Sorry... But, You're talking about primitive facts...
antifrituras 3 months ago
@antifrituras So you would let Spain determine your cultural identity? Spain is not your ruler, the U.S. is,and the U.S. defines Hispanic the same way Spain does, but is it right?
In Mexico, they don't go by Spain or the U.S.'s definition of the word.
Hispanic in Mexico is only used in text books referring to Spaniards or when Mexico was ruled by Spain(HispanoAmerica),but Mexico is no longer ruled by Spain.
Mexican identity is known as 'mestizaje", NOT hispanic.
Also,you didn't answer my....
1coolguysuper 3 months ago
@1coolguysuper Each country have a culture, have different things about their languages... It's a pitty that many people in US who speak Spanish don't know that they must be proud about their native language (Spanish). One of the most important books in World, there's two written in Spanis (El Quijote - by Miguel de Servantes, and Morality and Social - By Eugenio Maria de Hostos)... The others are The Bible and The Koran... And where's Hamlet??? We must be proud, because we're hispanics.
antifrituras 3 months ago
@antifrituras Part 2
Also, you didn't answer my question, do you consider Mexicans in Mexico "hispanic"?
Also you talk about native languages but you forget that there are still over hundreds of indigenous languages in the Americas.
1coolguysuper 3 months ago
@1coolguysuper If these meJicans speaks Spanish, yes... But if they speak another language, of course not.
antifrituras 3 months ago
@antifrituras So your anglo and british too? I mean, you do speak english right?
The definition of Hispanic today never existed before the 1970"s , and it was during the Richard Nixon administration, look it up.
but now hispanic has changed meaning,it now it's referred to anyone from a Spanish speaking country, but that is COMPLETELY WRONG!!
What race are you? Are you a caucasian?
Also,Hispania was a ancient Roman providence, which is today Spain and Portugal, and Catalan is part of Spain.
1coolguysuper 3 months ago
@1coolguysuper I'm Puerto Rican and I'm glad of it..... I'm not white, I'm proud about I'm. I don't care the races. Races sucks... "Ethnic groups" - that's discrimination. AND. I'm just telling about the Real Academy established. And I'm not it isn't 100% right. But the point is join all countries... Hispanics...
antifrituras 3 months ago
@antifriturasYou also know that the Spanish tend to be a divided people in terms of ethnic background. The Spanish in the North and more midland parts of the country tend to be very white and European looking. The Basques for example are closely related to the inhabitants of the British isles and look very similar. However the Southern Spanish have genetic traces to the North African Moors. During the Reconquista, it took 400 years for the Northern Spanish to route the Moors from the Peninsula.
1coolguysuper 3 months ago
Who's white??? The caucasians are white??? Oh... hohoho... These people are not white. Are mixed with other races such like us. I' m black and never I need to hide that. Because I'm proud such as I'm.
antifrituras 3 months ago
@antifrituras ,Mexican spanish has nahuatl words mixed into it,that is why Mexico is NOT a hispanic country,it's a Mestizo country aka "mestizaje".
You are just another person who wants to be "white", why else would you want to identify with European terms like "hispanic" or "latin"?
it's sad that you would accept this false identity.
And if your Black, then your just a black Puerto Rican, that's it.
1coolguysuper 3 months ago
@1coolguysuper I'm proud be black. And I said that. You're just a TROLL. Get out. Just because I said the people who speak spanish are Hispanics - that's something established the Real Academy. And you offers poor points. The HISPANICS - everyone who speak Spanish - must be proud because we're rich on culture, on words, on diversity. Don't forget that: The Spanish don't need to envy the English. Two most important books in world have bent written in Spanish.

@jay1jayf How can one be Hispanic and Mestizo?
Hispanic is a cultural heritage, and mestizo is a racial and a cultural term.
The Mexican Mestizo identity was constructed as the base of the modern Mexican national identity, through a process of cultural synthesis referred to as "Mestizaje",NOT Hispanic or Indigenous.
By only identifying as "hispanic" one denies it's other half, and the native half actually has more influence in Modern day Mexico then it's hispanic (Spanish) side.

@jay1jayf Part 2
Hispanics come from Hispania as British come from Britannia.
If spanish speaking people are hispanic, then english speaking people are British.
If you are a black Puerto Rican,Dominican or Cuban that was born in the U.S ,then you are just a black american like any other black person.
1coolguysuper 3 months ago
@1coolguysuper You're a confused little puppy. How can someone be a black puerto rican born in the USA? Can you be a Texan if you are born in New York? Can you be a mexican if you are born in the USA? Your head is messed up. All person born in the USA from Cuban, Dominican, Puerto Rican, Peruvian, Argentinian, Brazilian ancestry are Americans of Latin heritage. Christina Milian is a Latina born in USA of Cuban ancestry. Zoe Saldana is a Latina born in USA of Puerto Rican/Dominican ancestry.
javie2 2 months ago
@javie2 Anyone born in the U.S. is a U.S. American.
So then why are they called "Hispanic" or "Latino" if Hispanics/Hispanos are from Hispania which is today Spain and Portugal, and the latins were a ancient Italian tribe that later became the Roman Empire.
Christina Milian and Zoe Saldana are just black U.S. Americans
How are they "Latinas" or "Hispanic"? Why are you giving them a white european label?

@javie2 Part 2
Also,I bet your Peruvian friends are not caucasian.
cause I mostly hear this argument from non-white people.
Peruvians are Natives that were conquered by Latinos, and now they identify as their conqueror? LMAO!!
1coolguysuper 2 months ago
@1coolguysuper Then again... you lived in a parallel world. Please join the rest of humanity. Latinos of dark skin like Alex Rodriguez are Latinos. Latin culture is a total different culture that comes from Latin-America, Not from the USA. And African-american is an American culture born in the USA.
javie2 2 months ago
@javie2 Part 2

Having been all over Latin America, I can see that you know nothing about Latin culture or Latin countries.
javie2 2 months ago
@javie2 WOW!!
You are confused buddy.
Do your research dumbass.

1coolguysuper 2 months ago
@1coolguysuper No. Latin means the people who speak a LATIN LANGUAGE. There's africans speaking Italian, there's orthodox jews speaking Spanish.... There's Canadians speaking French.... There's Brazilians speaking Portuguese. And that term is stablished by many academies of languages... One question: Why in English they not have a real academy??? Just they have a few organizations who think that the only correct language is the british language???
antifrituras 2 months ago
@antifrituras The "Latin" label is mostly put on non-white people.
Somethings out of ignorance or self-hatred.
The Latins were a ancient Italian tribe that later became the Roman Empire, and they were EUROPEAN.
You are NOT Latin simply cause you speak a broken Latin language.
Can I ask you something, are you white? Cause I mostly hear this argument from non-whites who out of ignorance or self-hatred use these European terms.
1coolguysuper 2 months ago
@1coolguysuper First, I'm just saying that Real Academy of Spanish Language stablished so.... Now... My greatGrandFather was a German inmigrant who came in Puerto Rico, and he married with my greatGrandma' - a native Puerto Rican.... Now.... I'm black and I'm proud of it. In my country there's everything, and the word LATIN means people who speak a latin language - Lengua Latina. Spanish, French, Italian... One question: In Italy all of people there are white?? Oh, and in US???
antifrituras 2 months ago
@antifrituras The Latins were a ancient Italic tribe who later became the Roman Empire.
So in order to be a 'Latin", one has to of that tribe.
You are just a U.S.American (Gringo) since PR is NOT a country.
Why do you want to be label a 'Latino"?
You are a black Puerto Rican who speaks spanish and english (I assume), does that make you a british Anglo too?
1coolguysuper 2 months ago
@1coolguysuper I'm living with a country because we have a different culture, a different language. Now, we have a issue about the 'commonwealth' between US Congress and Puerto Rico - it doesn't exist. But that doesn't means Puerto Rico not a country... Is a country because we have our own culture our own language.... And our own land - by US congress - there's the issue. But 'Latino" is stablished by the Real Academy of Spanish Language like this. Your arguments 're very old
antifrituras 2 months ago
@antifrituras Part 2
By accepting Spain's definition of "hispanic", it just shows that Spain still subconsciously control you.
They are telling you that you are "Hispanic" and you are letting them, that's white-supremacy.
Real Academy of Spanish Language is BS.You are Puerto Rican,NOT Latino or hispanic.
You say you have your own culture then why do you identify with a Spanish European ethnicity?
Mexico is different, in Mexico no one uses this labels, since we have our own identity.
1coolguysuper 2 months ago
@1coolguysuper Ok.... Now I see your point.... At my case I'm LatinAmerican, because I speak a Latin Language (Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian...). Yes... Your argument is correct, but, it's an old meaning.... Now nobody uses these facts, and the Real Academy of Spanish Language have bring a new meaning about language - and word Hispanic - people who speak Spanish. Now... It's for exmp, INDIANS.... THE NATIVE AMERICANS ARE DOESN'T COME FROM INDIA... And that's correct.
antifrituras 2 months ago
@antifrituras If PR actually has it's our own culture, language and land, then why do you label yourself "Latino" or "Hispanic"?
Latin/Hispanic represent European cultures and ethnicity.
PR is not European.
Just cause you have some Latin/Hispanic influences, it doesn't make you Latin/Hispanic.
PR also has many African influence but they don't call themselves African, but why only Latin/Hispanic?

@1coolguysuper The meaning of what is a Latin and a Hispanic have evolve to mean a person with relation to the languages , i don't deny that before the terms was used to identify your heritage but like i said it has evolve, you can see that today's nation accept it this way because of the creation of the Latin Union that includes every country that carries elements of the Latin culture.
jay1jayf 3 months ago
@jay1jayf But it's wrong,
The vast majority of 'illegals" that come to the U.S. are natives, and by calling them Hispanic you are telling them that they are not allowed to identify as Native, since "hispanic" and "latino" are both European terms, and by letting that happen, one is promoting white supremacy.
If you are not Caucasian and call yourselves hispanic or latino,it just shows that you want to be white, since both terms are european terms.
continue.

@jay1jayf Hispanic is a cultural meaning - people who speak Spanish - just that. There's few Germans who speak Spanish... there's jewish in Spain speaks an ancient Spanish (Sefardi language).... There's many people that speak Spanish. Hillsong - christian rock band - speak Spanish.
antifrituras 3 months ago
If in US teached you that you're Mexico-American, and the caucasian are natives, that's your point.... But that's not established on nothing. Spanish is one of few languages that have an academy. In English there's not - just a few groups that claims the only way that speaks correctly English is in 'England'. In Spanish there's not problem thanks for this term (Hispanic). And they add new word, and don't try to remove.
antifrituras 3 months ago
@antifrituras Huh... That's racists suckers fascists who they're more Spaniards than others. But in US the Government have a fucking question on Census: Ethnic group - yellow, white, chineese, others, african, black.... wtf??? Is the only government who have a racist census an classify the people about aspect. Why the US government must know how many races are??? If everyone of us are humans, and are civilians in US....
antifrituras 3 months ago

Hispanófilo, hispanoamericano.
antifrituras 3 months ago
@antifrituras We are not under Spain's rule you know,Spain has NO authority to label us in any way.
This is exactly what the Anglos tried to do with the Natives here in the U.S. by telling them that they were "Anglo-Saxons",but of course the Natives didn't buy it.
I understand why Puerto Ricans want to identify as "hispanic", is cause Puerto Rico is colonized with no actual culture.
Puerto Rico don't have a culture, but Mexico does, and that is why Mexicans don't don't identify as "hispano".

it is not at all .but what people dont understand .is .people living here on the u.s at least we as hispanics.or l;atinos are required to do so..same thing as if gringos are required if they were living in mexico ..but as a tourists everyone can get away with that because .you are basically visiting.
bengativo6 3 months ago
@bengativo6 I see what you mean but must of these spanish speaking cities is mostly just Miami.
Here in San Antonio,Texas were it's 60% "hispanic" (I hate using that term),mainly Mexican and central American, you normally don't here spanish being spoken in public places like the way you see in these video.
Also, there are over a million gringos living in mexico and the vast majority don't speak a lick of spanish.
1coolguysuper 3 months ago
@1coolguysuper im hispanic too .and speak english and spanish both perfectly .and the term hispanic is not offensive.because an ignorant person would say .oh see that mexican right there.ok hold on how can anyone say that person is mexican or from guatemala el salvador.so the right term is for all us.hispanics.or latino.i hate to say this .but my mother in law when we are at a restaurant she asks for anything in spanish.and that is just not right, not because i hide my roots.but b it is the u.s.a
bengativo6 3 months ago
@bengativo6 The correct terms would be Mestizo, caucasian,or native.
Hispanics are the spaniards from Spain (Hispania) unless you are from Spain, no one is hispanic.
Most mexicans and Central Americans are Mestizo.
Now, if the immigrants were white spaniards, there wouldn't be many paranoid gringos, and what's even more strange is that no one is talking about the asians that don't speak english.

@bengativo6 Mexicans in Mexico don't use that term, only here in the U.S.
Most "illegal" immigrants from mexico are pure natives, not hispanics (spaniards).
Most Mexicans in Mexica are mestizos,white-caucasian and native.

@1coolguysuper I'm sorry to correct you but... Spaniards are the people from Spain. People that come from countries once conquered by Spain are called Hispanics, because their motherland is Hispania the motherland's synonym of Spain.
