  • Ben Stira desu

  • Being a comedian with NO hecklers wow I never thought possible in any part of the world D:

  • cultural jokes are really hard to translate without a background in the specific culture. bean is slapstick, but with incredible comic timing, and it translates everywhere easily. He's beloved in the far east for instance.

  • Thanks, not that's. I suck at typing on a phone.

  • Sorry I didn't know that. That's for informing me.

  • I wonder if there are more political comedians in Japan, or at least comedians who make jokes about government, and what they see as bad actions taken by people? If you know one could you tell me?

  • @Concequence

Maybe TORIHADA MINORU(鳥肌実) is one of the most political comedian in japan.

  • I love the two guys at 3:13. "You're not Chaplin!"

  • sanpei is a local fan

  • That was the worst segway ever lol

  • woww they really love Mr. Bean

  • this is painful!!

  • steven!

  • Nobody is answering you because you are spelling it wrong!

    Stephen?!!!

  • Just Coming!

  • Ha, you took your time!!

  • Someone had to.

  • Mr bean will take over japan...i swear

  • COMEDY PHAIL.

  • "Japanese comedies seem friendly... I want to hug them." LOL. ^_^ I usually don't quote things, but this was a must. :)

  • Haha, I love the Japanese but damn, their comedy just looks SO bad! Must just be the live stuff, I mean their cartoons tend to be quite clever with the humour etc.

  • hmmm, what about shinchan?

  • "I am Chaplin." "You are not Chaplin!" ...that cracked me up so fckin hard I swear I ripped my pants.

  • nice and funny.thanks! :)

  • ネタ無しで取材?しかも腕がない芸人(北陽とか)

  • OMG, but Mr. Bean is so old?!

  • i like mr. bean....

  • Dude. I love Mr. Bean.

  • ROFLMAO. her face looked SO MUCH LIKE HIS.

  • Heh, I liked the slap in the head followed by ''your not chaplin''.

  • it's good that there is such a wide acceptance of other cultures, I mean Mr.Bean, Charlie Chaplin, and probably the Three Stoogies are good humor. Not just saying things for shock value.

  • Actually, I think Chaplin and Mr Bean transcend cultural boundaries because there is no / virtually no dialogue in either, and so everyone can understand it regardless of their first language.

Anyway... SANPEI DESU, SANPEI DESU! What a legend

  • good point...

  • Quality!

  • Japan unfortunately doesnt have "cutting edge" comedy like the Uk or USA. Political ridicule or comentary are taboo, thanks to the gov on TV and comics, leaving standup as the only way forward. sarcasm isnt so popular her either. Japanese "humour" is mainly puns, slapstick and the repetition of a few catchphrases..much like "wheres me washboard" esque stuff from harry enfield, which itself was a parody of old comedy styles in the 30s/40s.

  • "where's my washboard" was the Fast Show.

  • Well, thats only what is picked up in this show. Yes, it doesn't usually contains political issues, nor F-word or racial jokes. But sarcasm and sharp jokes ARE major in most of it. They are usually done with extreme fast talks and complexed, so that only a person who is native to Japanese launguage and thinks fast would understands. People from other countries only hear about low-comedies that does not involve them. ex "Hard Gay". He is in position like Mad tv or Austin powers, low.

  • "Only those native to Japan will understand we Japanese and our unique and special culture". What utter rubbish. It's ignorant talk like that which has led to most of the cultural, social, economic and political problems that Japan has now.

  • "Only those native to Japan will understand we Japanese and our unique and special culture".

Lmao isn't that similar to what Hitler said when defending himself for the countless atrocities commited in his name?

  • @BenjaminJDickson

    *coughcough* *ahem* Godwin's Law *ahem*

  • Of COURSE non-Japanese can understand Japanese culture, including its comedy. Just because I dont think it is any good does NOT mean that I dont understand it. Its simply a fact that Japanese culture relies mainly on slapstick and puns, and avoids social or political commentary, which is considered "childish" by many people outside Japan. Deal with it.

  • Sorry, but that just shows your taste of humour and your poor insight about Japanese comedy. Superficially, you are right.

The majority of the comedy is separate from political ridicule.

    Because it's a taboo?

Hmm, doesn't sound as a right reason.

Because no common(in a bigger word 'Universal') laughter could be made on political ridicule.

    Thats sounds more natural.

You can say satire/sarcasm a "cutting edge", but it might cut and hurt others.

    It's not perfect either.

  • heh, that was actually funny to me, and I'm a fan of george carlin

  • I went to school there for two years when I was 14- met my first girlfriend there, been learning the language since 1998

  • LMAO. You can't possibly get the subtle nuances, cultural norms and anomalies from simply living there for 2 years. Fluency is merely the beginning of understanding other cultures. Different people have different style of humor even in the same county; it's quite simplistic to bag an entire culture as "crazy."

  • Japan has no sense of humour, just craziness, that becomes lol funny when it becomes insanity to the nth degree

  • utter gonads

  • What's a gonad? I forget

  • bollocks

  • Do you want to know a Japanese true comedy? Search "gaki no tsukai" in youtube if you want to know it.

  • By the way, the person doing ventriloquism is below in ability as a comedian, but ability of ventriloquism is terrible.

  • ahahahaha. This video is bad. Japanese comedy is conveyed incorrectly. Japanese comedian does not evaluate an overseas comedian basically. Besides, they give a noncommittal answer to questions of the foreign reporter. Because I know them well, I understand it.

  • Well, thank fuck for that, quite frankly. We're suffering a bit of a drought in terms of comedy over in the U of K, so a decent Japanese comedian would be a pleasant surprise. In fact, I'd venture that Taka and Toshi's high-speed patter is funnier as a series of abstract plosives than as meaningful Japanese.

What with this and the 'Insults' piece, it seems Adam and Joe have sacrificed facts for great telly.

  • shit me. Comedy used to be like that in the uk back in the 1930s...
