  • Beck's a grown man, but he's not afraid to crrrrryyyy.

  • haha then he did sea changes and we were all blown away

  • jhony cash> chuck norris

  • @cesarchivas1991 Johnny is God's gentle right hand. Chuck is the left. You want them both on your side, but for different reasons.

  • Seeing Beck cry makes my heart feel hardcore fuzzy.

  • @88FingersEddward there's a pedal for that. :P

  • @pkConda nice XD

  • if Johnny Cash likes beck then so do I.

thats so cool Beck cried like that - most of ment alot - it would to me.

  • Beck is everything !! He's a loser.... he's funny... hes the worst and the best at the same time!! Other musicians have bad song that are shit... beck has bad songs that are still cool Hahaha

  • @55peedy

Wow haha I've never heard anyone say it better

  • "rowboat" and everything else is about Courtney Love...oh, my friend John may want you to check out my youtube channel, but I see no need...nobody

  • he saw him in beck-stage

  • Its no surprise to me that some of the best musicians are fans of each other...

  • 1996? BECK OPENING FOR JOHNNY CASH???!!! I WOULD GIVE MY RIGHT ARM TO BE THERE

  • @WoblynBoytown I would give your left arm!

  • @Rockdrigo0 hey man! I need that one! give your own arm! :)

  • 0:40 yo dawg

  • "If you can't write a song in 20 minutes, it ain't worth writing" - Hank Williams

  • Beck is as close as there will ever be to Hank Williams (the original, not Jr.) Both are hurt to the root of their soul.

  • @cogitatione1 I agree beck and hank go together, but I think you should check out Wayne Hancock too.

  • @laslos3 Thanks for the tip on Wayne Hancock. To my ears, his band throws back not only to early, stripped-down country, but also to early, joyful rock and roll and jazz. If you want a truely weird, amazing throwback, go to hoopiejohn on youtube.

  • good song @ /watch?v=oKXwc_hMKhw

  • How Cool, John C rules.............

  • @mrbretty5 John C... Seriously? I guess you guys are close friends yeh

  • Was beck weeping there? cool guy.

  • Nobody as down-home with-we-people leftwing as Johnny Cash would have anything to do with elitist Scientology. But I know, this is about the muse in music & not the ew sick socio-political silly secularized religiosity of Scientology

  • @reforest4fertility Get off our high horse, dick. No one gives a shit if he's a scientologist , they just like his music.

  • @Triumph72 "our high horse" is right. Check your interpreting skills & plz reread, cuz i basically said this same thing. Stop reduhndancing

  • Man Beck losing it.....damn that's touching

  • Beck can do anything.

  • Mr Cash....we miss you.

  • I can't even imagine Johnny Cash seriously listening to Stereopathetic Soulmanure.

  • @RaygunShaun I can

  • @RaygunShaun

Haha, I think the same thing. I can't picture him sitting through 'Pink Noise' to get to this song.. he should have done 'Satan Gave Me A Taco' anyway

  • @RaygunShaun HAHA

  • @RaygunShaun Are you insulting Beck's music?

  • @heartshapedlife2 Not at all, I've been been a massive Beck fan for many years, but Stereopathetic is a hella weird record, and I just can't picture the 65-year-old devoutly religious country music legend actually listening to its deliciously absurd noise experiments.

  • @RaygunShaun Haha I know exactly what you mean.

  • It's amazing, usually it's the young musicians who cover the classics, not the other way. And it's especially weird, because Beck wasn't even known at the time Stereopathetic was released, and it was a really experimental, lo-fi album. It's kinda hard to believe that an artist like Cash would pick this up.

  • Johnny Cash had a great ear for music. If you ever get stuck on tryin to find out what some good contemporary music to download, research what Johnny Cash was listening to while he was alive. Whatever the genre, he really liked it all.

  • beck is my era¨s bob dylan

  • If J. Cash told me I was good at something I would cry, love that man, and of course Beck ;)

  • He's such a genius that an hour or two to write a song isn't considered very quick.

  • @ChablesMan i'm guessing you're not a musician... cus sometimes i'll pick up the guitar and just start playing and singing, and the songs just pretty much write themselves. like it's improvisation. i mean, sure people might not dig my songs as much as beck or johnny cash but i mean some of the best songs people write come about like that. like it's some subconscious free flowing thing..i dunno. if you do play music you should try it sometime, you might be surprised.

  • @IARE1031 I am a musician. But considering the quality of Beck's songs in the short amount of time he's able to conjure them up is extremely impressive.

  • @ChablesMan yeah well, the chords are very simple. then it's just a matter of putting a melody and words to it. you know...i mean if you think about it. it's pretty simple. i don't think beck is so much better than the people i know that make music. but i like beck, like him, misssissippi john hurt was pretty much the reason i was eager to learn to play guitar. so i can identify with that delta/country blues influence and inspiration. not many people talk about john hurt.

  • @ChablesMan anyway man, i guess since i've done it, i realize that it's actually not that impressive and that anybody can do it once they have the basics down. i mean 6 months into learning the guitar i did it a few times actually. but yeah, if you were to hear my song vs rowboat...i know you'd like beck's better.

  • what was the song he played?

  • @thedudefromthehood ......? rowboat. did you watch the video?

  • @thedudefromthehood You mean at the beginning when Cash was talking? It sounded like Devil's Haircut to me.

  • Better Recognize!

  • Praise from J.Cash must be like God telling you "Ya done good son".No wonder it blew Beck's mind.

  • beck can do everything. he was always just written off as this "slacker, ironic" guy in the 90s but at his heart he really wasn't...he was a really authentic folk musician

  • i heard from someone a while back that they wanted beck to be the face of the 90's but he wanted creative freedom so he signed with geffen records back in the day

  • @wushock1991 sounds true to me

  • did he just start crying?

    thats awesome!

  • My mom knew Beck before he left to New York. They were in Middle School. She has a photo with young Beck :D

  • Beck = so underrated, especially The information and Sea Change.

  • One of the most original and naturally talented artists there will ever be. He also seems like a real humble. This must take incredible effort considering his gift.

  • Sometimes i randomly start playing a song while talking about it too.

  • Beck is ....

  • That was special. I heard Johnny Cash do his version and I thought for all the world, it was a revelation that Beck must have borrowed it from him..then I see this!!

  • Wow, there aren't many musical endorsements higher than a thumbs up from Johnny Cash!

  • @Aeschylus Thumbs up to that!

  • Ramona!

  • my favorite beck song!

  • Beck is definitely a modern day musical genius. Always been a fan, I'm not one who will only follow or respect a band if they dont go mainstream. But I love that he has always done it his way.

  • LOL less then an hour, ahahah amazing

  • *chills* I love the improvising Beck does. He's the type of artist you could see a million times & always get a new show

  • If Dylan sad that what Johhnny says about Beck he was crying for real

  • WHY WOULD HE EVER SHAVE THOSE EPIC CHOPS?!!!!

  • he's stoned as fuck

  • Beck can do some much with some basic open chords.

  • I'd be honored if Johnny Cash said that for me, heck I'd cry

  • Pause at :48, and every band name is decent, if not excellent music. The only thing worse than not being alive through the '90s is being alive as a child, when you're too young to get a hold of Sublime, Beck, RATM, Johnny Cash, and the Fugees, let alone understand it.

  • There is no new Bob Dylan

    DYLAN=DYLAN

  • @DryHanson absolutely positively true. nobody will replace bob dylan. too good of a living legend to be replaced.

  • @DryHanson yeah, not new bob dylan, beck is BETTER than dylan!

  • Becks fucking awesome

  • i need to listen more of back then. if mr cash liked his music the its all worthy

  • I think Beck was kidding around when he "cried". I don't think that he ACTUALLY cried. Beck's a funny guy like that.

  • It's from Dutch TV (in the Netherlands)- they make a bunch of awesome documentaries. I would really like to see more of this...if he went into why he covered certain songs by other 'modern' artists.

    Absolutely awesome stuff.

  • Behind that sweet, and gentle, unassuming exterior lies a creative BEAST of unparalleled genius.

  • That was heavy Doc!

  • beautiful and really nostalgic, i think i'm gonna cry too :)

  • Watching Beck cry while watching Johnny Cash......amazing

  • he cried? how sweet! beck is awesome :)

  • @mistydreamz i think i would probably cry too, that would be amazing having one of the biggest names in music and a huge influence of everyone praising me and my music/ talent.. a dream

  • God damn I wanna hang out wit beck he seems like such a cool guy

  • Beck needs to revert back to this look. His mid-90's beard was awesome.

  • 24000th view

    Woo

  • i wish one day to be one tenth as cool as Beck on his worst day ever. And I wish johnny was still around. For my third wish? Watch them play together live one last time.

  • YES!

  • He is cooler than every cool guy in the world together.

  • YES!

  • Legendary! The most awesomest ever!!

  • a legend. Beck is such a cool guy.

  • ya Beck

  • Beck.

  • i'm speechless, what an amazing clip. one of my favorite beck songs ("you wrote it in just a couple hours?" 'oh no, i wrote it REALLY quick' - amazing!)

and to get such a high compliment from johnny cash, talk about blessed!

  • No doubt this is one of those rare pieces of footage that's priceless for Beck fans...

As for his songwriting process; it has ALWAYS flowed like a tap from him...he recently wrote and produced an entire album for a highly acclaimed European artist...piece of cake for him apparently! and oh yeah, the results were quite impressive

  • I just fucking cried watching it

  • That's so adorable, he was crying!...I love that man.

  • Beck so good.

  • This footage is priceless, many thanks for sharing it....Everything in consideration, such a heartfelt endorsement from a true ICON as Johnny Cash speaks volumes to the genuine creative force that Beck is....

  • I don't know if he is crying - but he and Cash are the shit.

  • How fucking awesome is Beck?

  • @skandalon They don't get much cooler bro, he is truly one of a kind....

  • inspiration comes in a flash.

  • -you wrote in a couple of hours?

-no, i had to do it fast

    :D

like couple of hours isn't fast for songwriting :)

    sweet beck

  • Thats the biggest compliment you could ever get....

  • I use to see this guy all over Highland Park (Los Angeles) He rented storage space from my Buddy. He was so cool because my friends english was not so great but they both shared similar tastes in Music and chated in spanish sometimes . He gave my buddy, Posters, CD's, Packs and Packs of guitar strings. Beck liked him. Not to mention he had thousands of dollars worth of gear in his storage. I would go to clubs and they would say. "Theres BECK!! ..I was like where? Little guy but big heart..lol!

  • U knew Beck?!

  • @Snotra thanks so much for sharing your story! i love hearing such things... i always imagined beck to be like this, a kindred person with a big heart.. but of course you can only imagine when youve never met him..but this brings me closer to think i see him with the right eyes. theres too many asshole out there just going for the cash...but damn, beck always impressed me so much.

  • Beck cried?

  • It bugs me, because I've seen this video before, and it seems like he's just being a clown, but then again, I would guess he has great respect for Johnny Cash.

  • Beck makes every type of music sound great, even country.

  • beck is awesome.............he likes tropicalia has he love JC...awesome video.

  • Yawn

  • is this the best comeback you can come up with?

  • bad comment

  • Dutch TV.

    Interviewer is Bram van Splunteren.

  • Beck is so great, and even legendary Cash agrees.

For a second, when he was singing, it reminded me of Bob Dylan.

  • beck is legendary, amazing artist,

  • Aaww.

    That was so sweet. :)

  • I'm really worried for music - and I'm 100% serious. Because when Beck goes they'll never be anyone as good enough to take his place...

  • we are in a crunch as far as music goes these days.

  • man you pessimists are really depressing

  • XD, haha

  • Stagnant musical periods bring about the GREATEST musical revolutions!!!! Keep hope and watch! cheers

  • Well don't worry; people generally say that every time a legendary musical artist passes on.

It sounds hard to believe considering the shit that's coming on the radio now, but there will be great artists in the future.

  • Beck is the new Bob Dylan.

  • @d00derson i agree

  • @d00derson ok, just shut the fuck up!

  • @d00derson how dare you compare Beck to that crap :]

  • @d00derson i say that all the time and get looked at like an idiot... not a lot of people delve into beck like they should.

  • Beck kicks ass.

  • Oh, and I also heard that the Smashing Pumpkins' '1979' was actually written on the way to the studio.

  • Wow, I just figured that out. Beck opened for Johnny Cash. Beck's tears seem a little staged. Staged, though they might be, I have no doubt that Beck was displaying his deep honor of having Cash say that about him.

  • I can't believe he eked this song out of his brain in under an hour.

  • And Beck is the shit all by himself. What does that say about Johnny Cash?

  • I agree

  • Shit that made Beck cry

  • Is this a Dutch interview? I've never seen him talk so candidly to any American.
