Great game last nite in the 20/20 Good win for england very close match. i thought england bowled good full length balls at the end. and aus bowlers like lee and tait bowl to short and that was the difference in the match.

Australia was a great team back in 2005 and 2007 with no weak links.Plus was better in 2009 even though we won.

Flintoff refused to follow the plot and the ashes seemed to bring out the best in him.

But now i believe we are a much better team and i expect us to dominate Australia for 3 ashes at least

My family mostly comes from the highlands and western isles. Your people probably arrived in Britain around 400-600 AD. Cricket played now days is all about glamour and ipl..kindda nonsense..those were the days when cricket really used to be played..2005 ashes has to be one of the last great series i have seen say of the last 20 years..there have been a few india australia series, when sachin, dravid and laxman stood in australias way, they were quite something to watch..but the sheer zeal and passion of 2005 was spectacular..

@n1ck822 I'm not going to say England are going to be no1 if or when we beat india as it's a very tough challenge. India don't really do that well on seeming English wickets. As for not winning in Australia for 24 years, other sides have gone a lot longer than that at not winning in Oz. The Aussies had 13 years as the worlds number one and no-one stays at the top forever. Roll on 2013 and the next Ashes.

Haha. Everybody thinks Australia went quiet. Kevin Pietersen even thinks we 'turned on our own' last summer. We didn't turn on the team, we just got sick of poor selection and mediocre captaincy. But now the wrongs have been righted, and we want the # 1 crown back. It'l be a fantastic series. Although, seeing as though the arguments on here are about nationality issues, I wonder if we can get that left arm spinner from pakistan to get Australian citizenship. He'd be handy ;)

@tazziedevil123 When you are number 1,like Australia was for so long,the only way from there is down and you Aussies certainly slumped to mid-table in the Test rankings once your great side started to break up. As for the Pakistan left arm spinner,you'd better hurry up and get him Aussies citizenship as you need a decent spinner. The spinners who have got a game for Australia since Warnie retired i'd embarrassed at getting out to and i've never played higher than English club cricket!!!

Well brother, it didn't take a great spinner to beat Australia in 2005. It took some amazing pace bowling. But don't get me started on Ashley Giles. Proof that games can be won without quality spinners. In all honesty though, after yet another series against an unsportsmanlike and ridiculous Indian team, I can't wait for the next Ashes. At least both teams respect and congratulate each other, and I'm sure England will be gracious in defeat.

We got tanked in 2007 after having beaten the best cricket team ever in 2005. I think we didnt prepare properly having sat on our laurels in 2005 with OTT MBE's . Th OZZies were more focused. We shouldnt be making that same mistake again & be more focused. Winning is one thing as in 2005 but you've got to do it again. Still 2005 was great. To beat THAT particular team was awesome and the greatest sporting specatacle I've ever seen. It had everything. Hope we get it half as good this year.

People mention 2007 a lot, it has become a symbol of the shambles that followed the 2005 Ashes in general in English cricket. In general there is heaps of talk about the 05 Ashes as a) it was a brilliant series and b) there is the comparison there that it was the last time the Ashes took place in England.

as i said 2005 was a good series to watch although i dont remeber it much as i was only 12 at the time. 2008 might be an interesting start though as we have cardiff wich is mainly a spinning pitch. i hear the groundsmen are trying to take that spin away though. the result is gonna be a featherbed pitch like we saw with the england lions and aus the other say with no give. basically a batting contest if the do it
