U would think with lee expierence he would know by now not to bowl short in the last overs or u get hit for 6. and thats what happen. if he bowled it full it harder
Great game last nite in the 20/20 Good win for england very close match. i thought england bowled good full length balls at the end. and aus bowlers like lee and tait bowl to short and that was the difference in the match.
@luminoussun at least, with the recent marriage, the royal family now has some British dna. Actually, my dna is probably more British than yours. My family mostly comes from the highlands and western isles. Your people probably arrived in Britain around 400-600 AD. My family's been in oz for more than 200 years, the English moved in around 1500 years ago. In terms of dna, you're as foreign to your land as I am to mine. If u are a celt, I apologise for calling you a kraut hypocrite.
@luminoussun also england only won 2005 due to the mints on the ball. marcus trestothic admitted in his book that they cheated that series by rubbing mints on the ball to cause swing and that is illegal ball tampering.
@hugobear1 So true. Aussies and Brits like to take the piss out of each other, but we'll share a beer afterwards. Americans have no understanding of the self-depreciating brutal humour the chosen and the convicts enjoy;)
@n1ck822 well the bowlers are english and they have ripped you apart and who is the leading batsman?? cook who is english...plus they all have english dna in them and thats good enough for me
@n1ck822 swann is the best spinner in the world??? tremlet got more wicketd then any aussies and he missed 3 games and bresnan and finn only played 3 and beat most of the australians too.
Lee was our number 6 and was better then any aussie except hussey.
@n1ck822 why are you comparing swann to has beens?? He is the best spinner playing cricket in the world today...20 top world legends pickjed a world 11 for 2010 and he was the only bowler in every ones team....he also is great with the bat too and a good slip catcher...no one who knows anything about cricket would argue that swann is the best spinner in the world now warne and murli has retired.
I predict 5 2 in the 1 dayers and a white wash in the 20s
@n1ck822 look all i am saying is we are the best team.
If we had to make a best 11 out of england and australia only hussey would replace collywood...except for that 10 out of 11 would be england players....we been getting our asses wooped by you for decades so let us have our glory without making excuses

@n1ck822@n1ck822 Strauss has 2 English parents but just happened to be born in South Africa, Pietersen was born in South Africa but his mum is English so he's always had English blood in him. I'll give you Trott though. But it's not like Australia hasn't took players from other countries though, like Andrew Symonds from England and him who bat at number 3 in the recent Sydney test. And it crap to say we nick players off Ireland,Wales and Scotland at sports.
Cricket played now days is all about glamour and ipl..kindda nonsense..those were the days when cricket really used to be played..2005 ashes has to be one of the last great series i have seen say of the last 20 years..there have been a few india australia series, when sachin, dravid and laxman stood in australias way, they were quite something to watch..but the sheer zeal and passion of 2005 was spectacular..
@n1ck822 England are current world 20/20 champions, were strangely enough,we destroyed Australia in the final. We've also won the last 2 Ashes seris, hammering in your backyard as well, and give the Aussies a beating in the 1-day seris in England in 2010.
You lot are the underdogs to us Poms now. Even 3-1 in the Ashes flattered you.
We love our unique rivalry with the Aussies though.
@n1ck822 The Aussies didn't hold the Ashes for 24 years mate. England won a few seris in our country. if you knew your stuff you'd say the Aussies never lost a home seris to the English for 24 years, rather than not losing to us in 24 years.
@BlueTrueScouse 19 years it took england to win a series home or away, 24 years to win in australia
Anyway good luck with series agaisnt india not sure when that is but i know it will be 300% harder then what aus put up. india batting is much stronger then aus and bowling. should be a good battle if england wanna be number 1
@n1ck822 I'm not going to say England are going to be no1 if or when we beat india as it's a very tough challenge. India don't really do that well on seeming English wickets. As for not winning in Australia for 24 years, other sides have gone a lot longer than that at not winning in Oz. The Aussies had 13 years as the worlds number one and no-one stays at the top forever. Roll on 2013 and the next Ashes.
@BlueTrueScouse All isnt lost for aus, aus did win the under 19 world cup last year so mite be a few years away until the talent comes through into the senior team but only time will tell.
Make no mistake though mate, Australian cricket is on the rise. Any POM that hasn't noticed the dramatic change in our Aussies over the past few months is not taking their cricket seriously. There has been a momentum shift in Australian cricket, the mongrel factor is back. You are right in what you say, England are the worlds best, but Australia are not the easybeats you met in 2010-11. We are hot on your heels England, and we are coming for you :) Long may this rivalry continue
@tazziedevil123 Oh look, the Aussies have won a few games of late and their fans have come out of hiding. Been very quiet over the last 12 months, wonder why???? I love this Australian/English rivalry and as you say, long may it continue. Roll on the 2013 with 2 Ashes seris to look forward to.
Haha. Everybody thinks Australia went quiet. Kevin Pietersen even thinks we 'turned on our own' last summer. We didn't turn on the team, we just got sick of poor selection and mediocre captaincy. But now the wrongs have been righted, and we want the # 1 crown back. It'l be a fantastic series. Although, seeing as though the arguments on here are about nationality issues, I wonder if we can get that left arm spinner from pakistan to get Australian citizenship. He'd be handy ;)
@tazziedevil123 When you are number 1,like Australia was for so long, the only way from there is down and you Aussies certainly slumped to mid-table in the Test rankings once your great side started to break up. As for the Pakistan left arm spinner, you'd better hurry up and get him Aussies citizenship as you need a decent spinner. The spinners who have got a game for Australia since Warnie retired i'd embarrassed at getting out to and i've never played higher than English club cricket!!!
Well brother, it didn't take a great spinner to beat Australia in 2005. It took some amazing pace bowling. But don't get me started on Ashley Giles. Proof that games can be won without quality spinners. In all honesty though, after yet another series against an unsportsmanlike and ridiculous Indian team, I can't wait for the next Ashes. At least both teams respect and congratulate each other, and I'm sure England will be gracious in defeat.
@tazziedevil123 I can't wait for the next Ashes too. We just got battered by Pakistan in the tests, but seris against them mean nothing compared to the Ashes against the old enemy from down under. Two Ashes seris in 2013,can't wait! I'm going for 3-1 to England in the seris in England and 2-1 to England in the tests in Australia.
I miss the old faces ya know.. I grew up watching McGrath, Warne, Lee, the Waugh brothers, Hayden, Gilchrist, in my mind they're always going to be the Australian cricket team, these new kids mean nothing to me.
How could you let the poms win in 2009 with pigieon guessing anther 5-0 win. We should of won Cardiff would of changed the result. Thank you for destroying them in the ODI's as pay back and let's win it back down under
what i'd really like someone to answer is - why do australian men still insist on blonde highlights in their hair? ..it peaked about 25 years ago in the rest of the world.
peaked more than 25yrs ago, try 30. Yer it seems just to be an aussie thing, regarding Warney i think he was happy that he had some hair to highlight as lets face it 3-4yrs earlier he literally was going bald, remember his advancehair adverts?
2005 was the best australian cricket team i have ever seen in my life. and what an ashes tour it was total edge of the seat stuff and we played really well to beat the aussies. and by the looks of this aussie team in 09 i think it is possible england can win again because by the looks of johnson he dosent look that good and hughes i think you need to drop him because weve figered him out. bounce him. but with pietersen being out for the rest of the series that has throw it open i think
The 2005 series was incredible, and a joy to watch. 2007 after the 3rd test it just became a joke. England were shit. And i was embarassed to be an englishman. Im hoping this eries will be close and a good contest, unlike the last one. Where is sidebottom? He should be in the team! come on England!
We got tanked in 2007 after having beaten the best cricket team ever in 2005. I think we didnt prepare properly having sat on our laurels in 2005 with OTT MBE's . Th OZZies were more focused. We shouldnt be making that same mistake again & be more focused. Winning is one thing as in 2005 but you've got to do it again. Still 2005 was great. To beat THAT particular team was awesome and the greatest sporting specatacle I've ever seen. It had everything. Hope we get it half as good this year.
is it me or do the aussie's care alot more about us than we do about them? "you're brought up to beat the pohms" i'd rather smash germany at football. but to wipe away the arrogance the aussies so badly try to cover up will be sweet i guess
so funny in england though even though australian players were injured and the res they still make england out to be massive heroes. yes it was a brilliant series but they still fail to mention 2007
People mention 2007 a lot, it has become a symbol of the shambles that followed the 2005 Ashes in general in English cricket. In general there is heaps of talk about the 05 Ashes as a) it was a brilliant series and b) there is the comparison there that it was the last time the Ashes took place in England.
as i said 2005 was a good series to watch although i dont remeber it much as i was only 12 at the time. 2008 might be an interesting start though as we have cardiff wich is mainly a spinning pitch. i hear the groundsmen are trying to take that spin away though. the result is gonna be a featherbed pitch like we saw with the england lions and aus the other say with no give. basically a batting contest if the do it
can't wait 4 ashes, during australia's tour of south africa, i stayed up till probably 2am on weekends watching them play, including the pakistan tour! GO AUSSIES!!!
I can't wait. It'll be weird though not seeing Glenbo at the opposite end to Brett and Gilly keeping and batting like a legend... But I love it anyway..Come on Aussies...
@BlueTrueScouse and yet you get bowled for 72 by pakistan

2006/7 - what's that? ;)
