  • soo uhhh why are they illeagal in some states?

  • ther'e illegal because they look like a piece of metal and are classafied as a conceliable knife.

  • @WataAtaCrackah808 ok but the balisong blade its longer more than of 4 fingers? plz tell me

  • HAHA IM BRITISH!

  • pretty much didnt answer the question

  • isnt that the same thing as a balisong

  • 4" butterfly knife = Pepperspray and heavy fine

    12" bowie knife = Not a problem

  • in italy are illegal?

  • well obviously it is legal in my state :D

  • Stupid spy's gives this knife a bad reputation...

  • If you just wanna twirl it around and do some tricks, just get a trainer butterfly knife.

  • Roger1379 you can easily conceal a butterfly blade that is why switch and butterfly blades are illegal in some states

  • are they illegal in minnisota?

  • Funny how in some places a 4" butterfly knife is illegal but a 20" machete is perfectly fine, I guess they think since it looks fancy and cool, it will be more lethal.

  • Very good point. I never thought about that.

  • @Roger1379 Well in the weapon aspect a 20" machete is pretty tough to hide, while a 4" blade could easily be pocketed. Heck where I live you're basically screwed if you have any knife concealed because it's a weapon. Though I'm sure you could get away with a swiss army knife because they'd think of it as a tool which a knife is too. -_-

  • Where I live, a balisong is a prohibited weapon, which means it is illegal to even own unless you have a permit, but I can go buy a 20" machete from a hardware store without any hassels. I've got plenty of pocket knives, I don't see how a 4" balisong is more dangerous than a 4" locking folding knife. I can conceal both, but one is illegal to own, the other is illegal to carry, both are as dangerous.

  • True...but at least you can legally carry a knife. I just have to hope a cop doesn't somehow find out that I have one in my pocket or then carry it so sheeple can see it. Or I could hope that the cop believes me that it's a tool and not a weapon since it can be used as a weapon and lets me off with a warning or something. Anyways, yes the laws are stupid in your case, so you can thank those who thought it was cool and started using them as weapons.

  • @Roger1379 What is that I don't even...

  • @wiseman2131 I am 12 and what is this

  • @Roger1379

its also illegal cause it hard to handle and alot of people have actually cut off their fingers when trying to handle them

  • @jgag100591308 So shouldn't cars be illegal too since a lot of people have crashed and lost their lives trying to handle them?.........Everything is dangerous if you don't pay attention.

  • @Roger1379

thats why its illegal to drive with out a drivers license

  • @jgag100591308 People still die in car accidents even with driver's licenses.

  • @Roger1379

true, and people still get butterfly knives even though they are illegal.

  • @Roger1379 Butterfly is illegal because it is a gravity assisted blade, a quick draw. It can be employed in combat w/o the victim even realizing it. The machete is usually considered to be more of a tool than a weapon, like an axe or hatchet or even hammer. There is no law preventing one from buying or owning a butterfly knife, so long as it is for collector's and display purposes. Having one on one's person is where the legality of it comes to question.

  • @Roger1379 no cause its concealed which is y it is illegal

  • @TheTipmann I can conceal a 5" pocket knife as well. In Australia, I can walk into any camping store and legally buy a concealable 5" pocket knife, but to get a 5" balisong I would have to get a permit. They are both as dangerous and as concealable.

  • @Roger1379 but the butterfly knife doesnt even look like a knife wen its closed

  • @TheTipmann Anyone who doesn't know a butterfly knife when they see it, closed or open, is just stupid. It's pretty hard to mistake it for something else. It looks just as much like a knife closed as a pocket knife does.

  • @TheTipmann A balisong looks like a balisong when closed. It doesn't matter what it looks like when closed because it will be concealed, as in no one should be seeing it.

  • @Roger1379 thata y if uve never seen one b4 it can appear like nothing

  • @TheTipmann What do you mean appear like nothing? I have a balisong on my table right now, it was purchased in the 1980s by my Father prior to the ban.

  • @Roger1379 i no me to but im just sayin if uve never seen 1 in ur life ur not gonna no wat it is .. otherwise i agree with you

  • @Roger1379 Well, it's for the same reason pistols are more restricted in my country than rifles.

They're smaller, more concealable - while at the same time bigger than most pocket knives, this is what makes them attractive as weapon to would-be criminals.

You're not going to see some thug carrying a machete down his trouser leg, are ya?

  • @Roger1379 Not really a question of lethality it's a question of concealment although in the same breath a regular pocket folder of the same size could be legal. Mostly it's just because of alleged 'Gang connections' to the knife.

  • @Bahamutswrath666 what about Stiletto knives? they are "associated to the mafia" are they illegal or not? this is such a silly law and should be removed...

  • @MrKevstro well... Sitletto knives are a style of knife that comes from italian design. Automatic knifes are illegal. But... spring assists are not. They are virtually the same thing, except you pull a tab instead of press a button. Just google spring assist sitletto. You'll find some nice ones under $20

  • @NateAdkinsBand thank you for the info but I really don't get why knives have so many restrictions, they have less restrictions the firearms, While it happens to be illegal for someone to have a knife of a specific length illegal, a firearm holstered isn't. now what if (not saying it needs to happen) one of these people wanted to fight you, I'd personally feel better running away from someone with a knife, someone that someone with a gun doesn't have to worry about.

  • @MrKevstro Oh, well anyone who brings a knife to a gun fight is just stupid haha... but I get your point.

  • @Roger1379

lol it sould be the oppisite -.- i h8 the laws about u cant carry butterfly knives

  • @Roger1379 I think it's the fact that you can hurt somebody very quickly and slyly.

  • @superchickenbob I can draw a knife which uses an emerson wave much faster than a butterfly knife and use it, as soon as the knife is out of my pocket the emerson wave would have opened the knife instantly and it's completely legal.

  • @Roger1379 also perhaps the fact that you can hurt yourself really easily

  • @superchickenbob Well you can easily hurt yourself with a kitchen knife or any other sharp item.....

  • @Roger1379 lol, u may have experience, but for someone who buys one for the first time, you can hurt urself really easily. (this is a knife that swings around fast)

  • @superchickenbob You play with knives you get cut, you play with fire you get burnt. Getting cuts is how I learnt to use a knife properly and respect it, playing with lighters and getting burnt when I was 7 is how I learnt to use a lighter responsibly.

  • @Roger1379 I hear ya, bro. But what I mean is that I could use a machete and not hurt myself and use a butterfly knife and really do some damage.

  • @Roger1379 Well think about it, what is easier to hide?

  • @mcrfuse I can easily carry a 10" fixed blade in a proper holster IWB.

  • @Roger1379 Alright that's cool. but could you hide it without it being exposed?

  • @mcrfuse Yes......IWB stands for inside the waist band, which means the blade is under the pants, and the handle will be under the shirt with minimal printing on the shirt and pants since it is thin.

  • this dumb mudda fizzle didn't answer ANYTHING

  • then here, brought to america around the early 60's or so through sailors on shore leave in the philippines, the balisong became well known as the bad boy knife, it was originally a filipino fishermans knife, they needed a knife that could be opened and closed with one hand to cut netting or whatever. The knife has a bad rep through movies that associate the knife with gangs (Ex: The Outsiders). and a fun fact, that knife the man has is a Pacific Cutlery Piece. (worth around $300 or more)

  • @krazyxmonster Exactly

  • theyre only good if you purchase a good expensive one like a sweet benchmade 42, ive broken so many of those cheap chinese balisongs, they may last you a little bit depending how aggresive you are with them but they all break and their blades suck
