'And other fine Secrets...' man o' man...to get my hands on a pro harp....one that has been tuned, drilled, shaped, tightened and embossed....(dreamer.....nothing But A Dreamer..)

  • I always enjoy playing my harmonicas and I never get tired of listening to someone else play, especially when they can play like you do.

  • i've always wondered why hatp manufacturers don't incorporate a feATURE which allows you to know top from bottom of the harp just by feel, and maybe eben some braille sort of theing so you can tell which key? it's often dark when I'm playing and i'm pulling these things out of my pockets just by feel.

  • Hi. I used to have the same problem, but nI started cutting a small notch on the left hand end of my harmonicas so now I can always start right. You can also either file a series of notches indicating keys. Then even in the dark you can feel the key and the proper end. Carl Otto

  • sonja is tranquilly captivating

  • a quien debo matar para tener una de esas armonicas!!!!?

    :) saludos desde argentina..

    jason,un grande

  • Jason you are the best! congratulations from Brasil.

  • your big budgie is awesome, also great video thanks

  • totally makes sense to add the posts to keep the harp from crushing, and the rounded corner to make it rest comfortable in your hand. I never have seen anything like it. Very nice work and very nice harp playing

  • Awesome tone, awesome song and awesome technique brother ! I am always blown away by your musicianship. Jay Santa Maria, Ca.

  • Beautiful song and great Harp art. Thanks for sharing your masterpieces.

  • Jason Ricci...that is a lovely tune. Real nice band!

Keep on doin what yer doin!

Perhaps you'll make it up to Toronto one of these days.

    All the best.

  • This is a beautiful and soulful melody, it puts you in a place where you want to be. great stuff. Its very humbling playing as well. In Australia i use a harp builder who does great stuff who is also in touch with the great harp builders such as Joe Filisko and Richard Sleigh, by the name of Neil Graham.I have a couple of dozen of his and they are great to play. Thanks again for this song, i am going to play this for some time to come

  • nice tune

    great work

  • Thank you my friend!

  • Jason, I was wondering if you could email me at Zack.Pomerleau (at) gmail (dot) com. I was wondering your opinion on Custom Harmonicas. There is Randy Sandoval, Richard Sleigh, Bob Meehan, Harrison, Spiers, and I don't know where to go for them! I've been really trying to find out good ones. Sandoval makes good ones, I have a few, combs are nice, but not sure if others can be better? I really don't know. Help me King of The Ferrets, your Prince needs your guidance!

  • Beauty here from 3:35 to 3:50 with tasty icing from Jason's harp being spread all around it.

Mahalo, Shawn, for have such an awesome mother about which to write!

    Aloha..............SQB

  • I believe the Ebay bidding got way out of hand. Wonder what the Spiers and Filiskos think.

  • Isnt that the point of selling? Make as much money as possible? I sold my entire mic collection and lost my ass. 18 vintage mics

for $85. Ouch. Then the fuckin guy whined that one was missing an internal piece of foam. Threatened me with shit feedback. I told him go for it asshole, Im done with fuckin Ebay.

  • Harpo10,

I started out w/ Ebay store, there were months I was busting my rear and LOSING money. I hated selling on Ebay, besides the stuff you mentioned, they fee you to death.

  • What key are those harps in? HA!!!! I was the first to ask!

  • HA!

  • @jasonricci where you a boyscout?

  • @jasonricci well done said molly

  • Not just awesome visuals on these gorgeous harps, but truly beautiful and original playing--12th position?--on the soundtrack. Vibrato to kill for. Or is that tremolo to kill for? Delay to live for? 'Verb to verb for?

  • Wow the great A.G.! Thanks for visiting man, Yeah thats 12th and thanks for the Kudos or Kudzu's on the vibrato. You rock my friend .Hope to hang again soon!

    Gray

  • a lovely piece of music.

  • Hey is that a sun conure? I have a african gray and indian ringneck. Great craftmanship on the harps.

  • Harp porn.

  • Dude, where did you get those kickass-looking key letters and the Blues Harp?

Those side vents are maximum whoopass!

  • I got them of some crazy dude whose bubbery was never in doubt.

  • Jason,

Always appreciate a fresh approach such as yours. Are you a Stones fan? Just wondering. I hear a couple of things in your music that remind me of them ( a little).

  • TOTAL STINES FAN! RESPECT!!!

  • Did a cover of "I'm a New Man" recently at a gig, went over real well, we added a bridge of "YOu Can't Always Get What You Want", very cool tune. Keep up the good work. John

  • i loved watching that video but i thought everything was avaible for sale ?? what about the Parrott. I can pay with UK £££ just kidding i loved seeing your Harps & Parrot

  • Hey Dude, I just spent a week with Adam Gussow and he said you were the best on this planet ..... you are. Thanks for this posting. It really shows how much a person can get addicted to Harp and it is a f--cking fantabulous addiction isn't it?! HAhhhhh!! Here!!

  • I'm totally addicted! I have to spend more time practicing and less time working on these things...Both is so rewarding! man, thanks for watching!

  • I have a International that had never been opened until I got to it. Are they all decent or did you get a good one. I rarely play it because it is in brand new condition.

  • so i'm listening to my siruis satelight radio the other day...and on popsa song by mr. ricci's bad ass....good goin man happy 2 hear u on there!

  • Yeah heah heah.

  • By the way, I am waiting on a MB limited edition from Brad Harrison, thanks for the heads up about his website coming up a while back. I cant wait to get it!

  • Congrats on purchasing one of the best harps available! That harp will blow away any of these!

    J

  • Are these for sale.........LOL, had to say it

  • Hi Jason, just been listening to the video, very nice, could you tell me what harp and key you are playing in,Reg

  • Sure the song is in E and I'm using a B golden melody playing mostly just the major scale in 12th position. Thanks.

    J

  • Nice work J. Loved the playing, been jamming along to that for the last hour. Curious that you should declare that 'you're' not for sale though. hahahaha ... all the best dude.

  • Ha! didn't notice how that read! I am for sale sometimes and in nice ways only...Thanks for watching!

    J

  • Jason, those are some beautiful harps! Just how many do you have? I take it that it was you playing the harp in this video. It sounded really nice.

  • Hi: I have hundreds of harps but about 40 work harps most I use for parts and some are too rare or too hard to rebuild. Check the description box for more about these harps our music and other info. Thanks so much for watching!!!

    J

  • Mueleski: he's not going to blow his own horn. The song for this video is Sonja, written by Shawn Starski, played by Jason and Shawn absolutely incredibly on the new CD "Rocket No.9". Each time I see Jason & the band play Live, I hope they'll play it, as it's 'my' song, lol. (It was my birthday present one year)...it's truly a gorgeous instrumental. I'm not sure even Jason and Shawn realize how beautiful it is.

  • Nice work Jason. What do you use to paint the combs with?

  • I use all kinds of stuff....sometimes a simple stain or small paints I bought from home depot for wood....sometimes I will use paint pens, highlighters or even sharpees...once you get the design down then seal it with The Payne method (salad bowl finish) your good to go...anything will color it and be non toxic after the salad bowl finish. Finally I cote it with a light coat of nail polish.

  • Hank, you rule, dude.

  • No, YOU rule sir! Thanks for the kind words, and keep up the awesome work, the both of yas!

  • Inspirational, thanks.

  • Pure harp porn!!!! Just ordered myself a Brad Harrison MB in A. Should get it just before xmas. Cant wait!!!!!!

  • Conrgrats on that Brad is THE MAN!

  • The harps look even better in person!

I really want to learn that little riff at about 4:47 - 4:49 in this vid. I think it's more beautiful than the harps.

  • You Rule.

  • WOW Brother! I want them all! They look hot as hell and form the sounds they are true great harp! I am so impressed with your playing and the the harps. It shows me that I have to start to learn how to fix up my harps and start to make them all my own! Thanks so much for the vid!

  • Thanks Willie. Do It To IT.

  • With Maximum Bubbery.

  • That "maximum Bubbery" post was supposed to appear under the DoToIt post, as in DoToIt with maximum bubbery, but instead it appeared at the top.

    Your harps rule.

  • Nuh Ugh...YOU Rule! and you were my inspiration to tackle the wood bodied program! Maximum Bubbery and unbiased judgifying are both essential ingrediants in life as you know better than most!

  • Very nice Jason, very nice indeed. And the background music is amazing. I like the bird, is that a conure? I have 4 birds myself 2 budgies and 2 finches. I like the way you've rounded the ends on your harps and the patterns on the back of the harps adds a lot to the look of them. Very nice work dude.

  • hey Chris! Thanks for watching....The video isn't unlike yours except you had video and photos mixed in...cool! Filisko started that corner rounding biz...then stopped...and David Payne back into it so I started after that. The American Boy Scout WAS MADE like that! You should have seen that thing in the begining...GROSS!

  • Oh man some of those shots really made my heart stop beating for just a moment... several times.

    They are absolutely beautiful Jason.

This really inspires me to do some customization for myself since I live out here in Malaysia where there are absolutely no harp techs around at all.

Thank you for sharing this. The beauty of your custom harps from a visual sense is parallel with the beauty of your sound for sure.

  • Thanks so much. It's so fun i was as excited or more in some ways to post this video up. Thanks for the kind words so much!!!!

    J

  • Did you take the shots too? Because if you did I'm shocked. As if your harp playing and customizing isn't good enough, you got some really nice photo work there too!

  • I did take those photos...Thanks first time ever with a real camera actually...I think if you love something a lot it';s easy to get it's good side...THANKS!

  • Really nice photos man. I've had my buddies who are professional photographers who tried to take photos of some harps and they failed miserably even though they can take stunning photos in general. Yeah dude, it's really because of your love for the instrument... and I bet you love taking photos too. :)

  • That is awesome, man....

I'm a gigging songwriter, and the harp is a major element of my thing. I have gone through all kinds of strategies of tuning guitar to harp, but the biggest problem I have is that the harps "wear out" within a couple months of playing. It pains me to throw them away, and it gets so costly that I practice witout them , now, and only ply them onstage....

  • Then the main thing for you to learn is how to tune them and replace reeds! It's easy and there are some vids here for that.

    J

  • I know man, and I'm studying it. I have bought replacement reed sets and swapped them-- they're almost as much as a new harp. But it obviously is not right to throw away a 30 dollar harp because one reed failed, and that's why I love you guys that are posting this valuable information.

    Thanks!

  • Lost hills, your 4 and 5 draw are the ones that go out all time, aren't they? That's the impression I got when I watched your videos. Each reed bends differently, but I hear you bending the 3 draw, then applying the same bend force on 4-6. Like on 4, your body is trying to bend PAST the bend limit and you're ruining reeds early. If you need to, feel free to contact me.

  • That was a reply to lost hills, got posted at the top for some reason....

  • Thanks for your insight. I gave it some thought, and I think you might be right Gracias.

  • elkriverharmonicas - Dave: when you first post a response - even if it's directed to someone, it goes to the top of the responses. You don't see them in the correct order until you click on the 'see all' comments (or whatever it's called) at the bottom of the first page. Then it 'sorts' them correctly. Try it, then everything clicks into place, lol. Eliz.

  • You see you're not that bad with computers (thank you iPhoto ;-)

All these harps are so tempting, and my lips are eager to kiss them all.

And with Sonja in the background hummmm all tht is so sensual.

  • Brady did it all as usual Christelle!

  • These are looking beautiful... the music is gorgeous. I try to tweak my own harps, but I'd have to learn from you in person.

Good seeing you in Jersey, hopefully an other occasion some time.

  • Man... you working on a second career... in Video Editing? Well Done!

    IOWA- Next Week! Woo-Hoo!

  • No Brady did it all ofcourse in like a minute...Hey I can't wait to see you...call me so we can hang before the gig Please!!

    J

  • Do I see some Chris Reynolds inspiration in your latest work? Those painted patterns are awesome.

  • lol- awesome bird, awesome harps, awesome music.

  • Nice bird! You gotta teach him to sing Jimmie Rodgers, like my bird.

I'm waiting for my previous post to post. If it doesn't, let me say I've played almost all these and they RULE!

  • beautiful song. "sonya"?

the harps are nice but the bird is prettier.

  • Absolutely beautiful!!!

  • sweet tune Jason... very nice

  • very nice
