@AVeryCheekyMonkey Everybody on these Aphex Twin videos is making it out to seem like Skrillex fans are stupid people who blow up buildings and eat babies. :\ I feel scared to say the word dubstep here out of fear for my life.
One of the greatest tracks ever produced, by any musician, in any genre. So crisp, so sublime, so very subtly uplifting. Literally timeless this piece is.
I first heard this song when i was 13 years old (im 19 now), it changed my life forever. When i heard this i cried. This song inspired me to become a producer and is what got me into electronic music today, this song litterally moulded me into the person i am today, it was all this amazing song.
This song makes me think of heavy rain while i'm inside home and staring at a window made of frosted glass as the rain pours.. Calm, gentle, beautiful.. this coming from a 15 year old kid who listens to slayer
#2 on the list! 1.) Hexagon / Corrugated Tubing (SAW II) 2.) Xtal (SAW 85-92) 3.) On (On EP) 5.) Windowlicker (Windowlicker EP) 6.) Phonatacid (Analord 2) 7.) Ageispolis (SAW 85-92) 8.) 4 (Richard D. @aeopmusic I beg to differ. Ziggomatic v17 is the best thing RDJ ever created. And surely Alberto Balsalm and Avril 15th deserve to be in the top 5. Don't forget 'fenix funk 5' and 'Xmd5a', also one of his best.
@iRapspot He's right. Although, he may be off. Richard worked on Selected Ambient Works from 1985-1992 I believe, so this song was made anywhere between then.

I think the great electronic musicians like Aphex Twin, BoC and perhaps Burial will one day be looked back at in a similar way to how we view the classical composers today.
If only life followed this rhythm and melody. Nevermind the boring and the mundane and the unimaginative and the dull drudge. If only life were this exciting, this euphoric, all the time. Can you imagine the sheer bliss?
I love this kind of cyberpunk music. It's the kind it used to play in the Toonami anime trailers where it would overlap the in-show music while all the sound effects and shouts could still be heard. Ah, god bless the 90s...
quite simply, this is one of the best albums ever recorded. without this album, we would also not have one of the greatest albums ever recorded, kid A. but that isnt the point. this album and this song is truly remarkable.
@buzzerede Yes - legend has it that when Richard D James got his record deal with R & S Records, he had mastered this track to cassette & then lent it to his mate who'd been playing it in his car stereo. James had to "borrow back" the cassette master which had become slightly chewed by the car stereo. However, like many other stories surrounding Aphex Twin, pinning down the absolute truth is often an inexact & elusive business. I merely offer this as what I read on the subject back in the 1990s.
Yes, the whole force of the aphex twin's music that people from different places and different ages, if desired can get a great range of sensations, flashbacks and nostalgia, safety and vulnerability - overfilling the fullness of life and life's transience. Aphex appeals directly to your subconscious

@Moskva77Moskva Chosen Lords is a beautiful compilation of the best Analord's and Drukqs is a very good album. I wouldn't say his music after 92' is awful, it's just.... beautiful in a different way.
@TheTerrorbot, I assume they don't like beauty. Or anything that has to do with beauty. I assume also they want to bring down anything that smacks of beauty. Its the old saying, misery loves company. These guys are the most unhappy group. Either they were raised wrong or they went to college where they were taught to follow their desires which means they will remain unhappy.
One of the most, if not the most sublime ambient cut ever created... absolutely timeless, ethereal, pastoral, mesmerizing, serene, trancelike, a trifle melancholic with yet a grain of hope and wonder... afx is the shit

I'm sick of this musical elitism. Every Aphex Twin / Boards Of Canada video has some clown saying how this music is secret, and for us only.
Nonsense.
I used to think like that - when I was 13.
Why not share it with everyone, maybe it'll change their outlook? Sure there will be horrible carbon copy clones that are corruptions of something you hold dear, but just don't listen to them, and make/find something else that is new.
We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of the dream.
Haha, thanks! I was half quoting an Aphex track/willy Wonka, but sure. You know what I mean though? A lot of folks are always on about how "underground" music should be kept underground. Silly.
Also, as Polyfusia pointed out, it's also very inaccurate to even call it undeground.
Never got the hype. The whole album sounds like it was mastered on a k-mart tape deck and aside from that the ambient works don't have anything on someone like vangelis. whats the point. it's ok chillout music
@brosephjames idk if youre aware of this but first of all this album was made in the 80's so obviously the sound quality/rendering isn't as good as more recent music, also he was age 14 when he produced some of these works.
This is crazy... I thought I would type in my name just to see what would happen and it lead me to this song! Pretty weird huh? It's spelled exactly the same. Goosepimples. =P
i used to listen to this song on repeat, as well as 'tha' and 'blue calx'. for some reason, they grabbed something inside of me and made me want to close my eyes and stop existing, float.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
Yay an Aphex - Xtal upload without school shootings, nuclear explosions etc as the video. I don't understand why people would put that sort of shit as the video on a beautiful song like this.
shame about the horrible sound quality

1 John 5:13

that drugs, like this music, is fucking impossible to get off, because this, is fucking addictive stuff.

Yay an Aphex - Xtal upload without school shootings, nuclear explosions etc as the video. I don't understand why people would put that sort of shit as the video on a beautiful song like this.
