  • 'For those wondering, the first piece is by Toru Takemitsu called "From Me Flows What You Call Time". A lovely surprise to find another performance here...

  • I only heard the five mintues, it seems to me that they are out of tune.

  • thumbs up to the guy below not getting a thumbs up :D

  • Blah, blah, something about Justin Bieber, Blah blah, something about the people that doesn't like this video, etc. NOW, give my Thumps Ups.

  • une symphonie longue, complexe et sinistre ! impressionnant Tchaikovsky !

  • Y se habré el telón, entrar a un mundo distinto, donde la imaginación recobra tu ser y la pasión abunda a doquier. Hoy es todo fantasía. Salu2..

    Piotr Tchaikovsky un gran músico..

  • Ive always found it funny to applaud at the beginnig of something, like at a stand-up gig or at a concert! Its like, they are being congratulated for not doing anything yet! But when i watch these, i get why you applaud!!

  • @Emmetl43 haha very funny and sooo true

  • ahh I always love the tuning of the orchestra... inspires me to no end!

  • @RemovdSande11 True story, I went to my first performance with my dad, and they tuned, and I thought it was the piece, so I told my dad "Wow that must be the shortest piece ever written!"

  • I think Tchaikovsky would have been a 1980's head banging heavy metal rock start if he grew up in that era

  • I'd be the retard in the red shirt playing the cymbals, this was great by the way thanks.

  • Title and discription only has Tchaikovsky's name. What about the first piece. Toru Takamitsu if I'm not mistaken. Rain Tree? or From me flows what you call time? one of those. :p

  • Title and discription only has Tchaikovsky's name. What about the first piece. Toru Takamitsu if I'm not mistaken.

  • the violinists are amazing

  • Hey its great to see the use of the Steelpan instrument in this orchestral. The Steelpan a musical instrument invented in the 1930's by a Tiny well established and renowned Twin island Caribbean Republic Trinidad and Tobago the Mecca of Carnival.

  • @angelpanman sorry to say but thats not true. the instrument as seen there is invented in the 19e century (so thats 18xx )by Theobald Böhm.

  • Opening is horrible. Sounds like a love-sick whale off the coast of La Jolla.

Is she playing it the way it's supposed to be played?

  • @7855waldo well..it does say red fish blue fish....

  • @meginmd - It happened tonight: Our consciencious owners of a local Japanese restaurant...we ordered "salmon roe" (the fish eggs sushi) & they delivered a tray of "salmon rolls."

But it was, anyway, definitely, delicious.

I'll order "RF-BF" tomorow & really put their heads in a spin (kidding).

And ask them to put "Salmon Roll Over Beethoven" on the menu (this could go on forever).

  • un tanto raro al principio pero luego es hermoso!

  • the flute solo at the beginning reminds me at shakuhachi flutes, played at japanese rituals for entertaining like geishas

  • Darauf kann man so geil einschlafen. Einfach leise laufen lassen und zack, man ist weg im Land der Träume!

  • The beginning of this work reminds me of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

  • hey would you be so kind as to tell me what is played at the very beggining of this vid -> .youtube.com/watch?v=-p85JRVVziA&feature=player_embedded#!

  • Indudablemente Tchaikovsky tenía la sensibilidad suma como manifestar su estado anímico existencial a través de la música. Tati

  • ME ENCANTA

  • This isn't bad! I love the use of steel drums and traditional drums! There usually is tuned instrument solos in classical music (such as a bassoon) but this piece uses a percussion solo! It has a beat that I can follow along with and I can only dream to write music like that. What was that instrument at 29:26? It made a rattly sound but it sounded pitched...hmm...

Nevertheless I'd give this video (LOVE the length!) a perfect 10/10. Verbally bash me if you want.

  • What is the first piece? I don't see it listed....

  • Interesting use of the cow bells and other percussion. WOAH...just got to the part with the "kite" wind chimes. 12 min into it ......just can't get into it, not for me I guess. I'd rather "1812-O" This dosn't seem to "flow" for me.

  • i enjoyed this very much. well done!

  • love the flute solo in the beginning.

  • GRAN SINFONIA

  • .

    A união faz a força

    da beleza na hamonia

    - e um cosmo se forma.

  • awesome bassonist around 55:40....love it love love it

  • Hey guy, your kind of an idiot... It's supposed to sound like that... Gahh!

  • Tchaikovsky's symphony starts at 35:40 for anyone who wanted to know.

  • ¡Gracias! es bueno saberlo. Thanks again

  • Thankyou sir

  • @TheSongsOfTheWind thank u!!!!!!!

  • @TheSongsOfTheWind

    Oh, thank you.

  • @TheSongsOfTheWind

    Thanks

  • @TheSongsOfTheWind

    Thanks for that.

    Because the beggining was...

    You came to the resque.

    Thanks!

  • That flute solo in the beginning is something else. Very impressive.

  • @facemash I thought it sounded like a movie soundtrack, does anybody know what it is?

  • @jcswheatley you mean the fourth movement of the 5th? I always thought it vaguely resembles john williams' superman theme

  • bassi!

haha look at Jim on his own stand :D

  • tchaikovsky´s 5th actually starts at about 0:36, for those who wonder about it like me.

  • ...this is the takemitsu which we just played the other week at our november concert series. error in the name?

  • Why is this piece being bundled with that half-hour of Asian space music? Ugh, that was terrible. It took me awhile to realize that the first part was NOT what the video was titled.

  • Well if you couldn't tell that that wasn't Tchaikovsky right away then maybe you need to get your ears checked, that might also explain why you didn't understand the subtle beauty of the piece by Toru Takemitsu, a higly respected Japanese 20th century classical composer. Ignorant bastard.

  • Dang, you're hard core dude. By the way, your statement is completely subjective. If I say this music sounds like someone pureeing bells and gongs in a blender, then it does.

  • @yumyumwhatzohai Really? I want to see the piece! I actually love this introduction with the exotic percussion. What is the name of the piece? Thanks

  • One of the best pieces of classical music ever, this one by Tchaikovsy!

  • Steve Schick is leading this orchestra in an incredible season - Brahms 2, Petrushka, Pines of Rome, Mahler 2 and others.

  • How interesting. Schick is the soloist in the middle in this performance and now he is the conductor of the orchestra. La Jolla is going to be doing the Takemitsu again next year for their season opener with Schick conducting instead of playing.
